Story
Loki (fka Idaho) is a handsome 2-1/2 year old male Pit Bull Terrier mix who originally was in our shelter as a tiny newborn puppy when his mother (Layla) was brought to HSOV on December 17, 2021 along with her four newborn babies (Idaho, Russet, Yam and Yukon). Layla was a good mother to her puppies and she eventually went back home with her family. Her puppies all found homes during the new year (2022). Loki came back to our shelter in the Fall of 2023 and has been readjusting to shelter life for the past several months while enjoying a large 'bachelor apartment' in our Safe Haven facility. He has recently made a move from Safe Haven to a smaller apartment adjacent to the lobby of our shelter .. Loki is usually seen looking through the window when visitors come to our shelter in hopes that special someone will offer him the home that he has been dreaming of for the past six months+ Loki is ready to move on with his life and find an appropriate home of his very own. This magnificent boy has a black-and-white coat, huge paws, a long tail, and an adorable face with blue eyes, a black button nose on his chubby muzzle, and short floppy ears. Loki's left ear is white and his right ear is black. Loki is looking for a home where he could be an 'only child' since he is not good with other dogs or cats. He would most likely be ok with older children who would be strong enough to withstand his 'hugs' and robust playtime. Loki is big boy who currently weighs 105 lbs and is very strong on a leash (especially when he jumps). He would probably do best with an experienced handler who could give him the attention and exercise that he loves. Loki is merely an overgrown puppy in a very large body. He is full of playful energy and doesn't know his own strength. This collage of photos were taken on July 2nd 2024 when HSOV Lead Canine Kennel Tech Jared Nash accompanied Loki for outdoor Fourth of July pictures in his festive red/white/blue bandana when Loki was chosen to announce our HSOV Wednesday Wish List for July 3rd. Loki has already been neutered, so he could leave our shelter immediately with an approved HSOV adoption application. And as an added bonus, we can offer BABY PHOTOS of Loki (whose baby name was Idaho since he was such a cute little pudgy potato) UPDATE: Loki went home with a foster family on October 4, 2024 so that he can enjoy a real home environment while he waits for someone to adopt him and give him a forever home. Loki has been slowly introduced to the other dogs in his foster home, and they are getting along well. Loki went home with foster family on October 13, 2024 who plans to adopt him if all goes well. Loki was returned to HSOV on December 7, 2024 by his heartbroken foster family. They truly loved Loki but could no longer keep him since he did not get along with one of their resident dogs and had caused bodily injury to her.

Story
Doofy is a magnificent 2-1/2 year old male Labrador Retriever/Pit Bull Terrier mix who was brought to the HSOV on March 9, 2025 by a Washington County Ohio Deputy Sheriff who picked him up on Tadpole Run Road in the Belpre Ohio area. Doofy was wearing a collar with a Wood County WV dog tag and a rabies vaccination tag, so we are hopeful that he will be reclaimed. Doofy has a shiny black short smooth coat with a large patch of white on his chest, white paws, a long tail, and a beautiful face with dark brown eyes, a dusting of white on his chubby muzzle, and short floppy ears. Doofy appeared to have a friendly, outgoing personality when HSOV Kennel Tech Emma Dahlgren spent time with him in the lobby of our shelter for his quick photo session shortly after his arrival on March 9th. This big boy weighs 85 lbs and was fairly strong on a leash. Doofy would preferred to have enjoyed a walk/photo session outside since it was a nice sunny afternoon. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Doofy will be held for 14 days since he had dog tags which will enable us to locate his owner. We hope that his owner (or someone familiar with Doofy) will see his Facebook photos and know that he is safely in our shelter and would love to go home. Doofy is NOT good with other dogs. He is ok with cats except that he plays rough with them. Doofy was neutered on December 15, 2025 and was also given rabies vaccine. He weighed 84 lbs that day. UPDATE: Doofy went home with a foster family on March 19, 2026 who plans to adopt him if all goes well. Unfortunately, Doofy was returned to HSOV by his foster family on March 21st 2026 because Doofy is NOT good with other dogs.

Story
Precious is a 2-1/2 year old female American Pit Bull Terrier mix who was brought to the HSOV on April 9, 2025 and placed in one of our outdoor kennels during the overnight hours. The individual(s) who left her there did not leave any information about her (or call the Washington County Ohio Sheriff's Department), so we don't know if she was an owner surrender or a stray. Precious was covered in fleas when we found her, so she immediately was given a nice soothing bath and received Nexguard treatment. She also had sparse hair (most likely due to a severe allergy or demodectic/non-contagious mange). Precious was a healthy weight (62 lbs) when she arrived on April 9th We posted a preliminary photo of Precious on our HSOV Facebook pages in hopes that someone would recognize her, but nobody called or came looking for her. Precious has a brown-and-white coat, a long tail, and a beautiful symmetrically-marked face with dark brown eyes, a liver-colored nose, and short floppy ears. These updated pictures of Precious were taken on May 8, 2025 when HSOV Volunteer Jennie Sherrard spent time with Precious during her photo session for her Petfinder/Facebook/Adoptapet debut. As with many dogs, Precious does not have a good 'kennel presence' (and is quite vocal) but when she is out of her floor crate/kennel she is a completely different dog. Precious loved attention from Jennie and our photographer while she posed for her first 'glamour photos'. Precious' fur is beginning to grow back in and she looks like a different girl than the one we first met on April 9th. We will plan on another photo session in a few weeks to show her progress, and we hope that potential adopters can envision her future appearance. It was touching to see Precious watching another dog being fostered-to-adopt and hopping it her new owner's car .. It was as if Precious were envisioning the day that this could be her going to a home of her very own. Precious will be spayed before she is officially adopted. She could be fostered while she awaits her spay procedure with an approved HSOV adoption/foster application. Update: Precious was spayed on July 16, 2025 and was also given rabies vaccine. She weighed 63.9 lbs that day. Precious went home with a foster family on March 7, 2026 who offered her the hospitality of their home so that she could enjoy a real home environment 24/7 instead of being in a noisy shelter kennel. Precious will be treated like royalty while her foster family pampers/spoils her and gives her publicity on Facebook in order to help her find a fabulous home. If you are interested in offering Precious a forever home, please complete/submit an HSOV Adoption Application so that we may arrange an appointment with her wonderful foster family for you to meet this special girl.

Story
Tabatha is a beautiful 4-year old female Pit Bull Terrier/Labrador Retriever mix who was brought to the HSOV on July 23, 2024 by the Washington County Ohio Dog Warden along with Tabatha's male companion (Kenny) who is most likely her brother. Tabatha has a white short smooth coat with large black patch on her left side and at the base of her long tail. Tabatha has the most adorable face and the nicest 'smile'. She appears to have borrowed an eyebrow pencil to enhance her black eyebrows but didn't have access to a mirror when she applied her makeup (smile). Tabatha has a slender muzzle and short black semi-erect ears. This sweet girl was a pleasure to photograph when HSOV Kennel Tech Cadince Bibbee accompanied her for outdoor glamour pictures on July 26, 2024. Tabatha displayed a sweet, cheerful personality and adored attention from Cadince. Tabatha wags her tail the moment you make eye contact with her (and looks up at you with hopeful eyes and her cute smile). Tabatha weighs 58 lbs and walked fairly well on a leash for Cadince. Tabatha and Kenny had an unfortunate incident which placed them on a 10-day bite quarantine when they were brought to our shelter. They have 'done their time' and have been great 'guests' in our shelter. Their owner decided to surrender them to our shelter, so they are now looking for a new home. Tabatha will be spayed before being adopted by her new family (a requirement for HSOV adoptions to be finalized). Update: Tabatha was spayed on December 3, 2024 and was also given rabies vaccine. She is ready to find her dream home with someone as special as she truly is.

Story
Moose is a magnificent male Bull Mastiff who was brought to the HSOV on October 24, 2024 by the Washington County Ohio Dog Warden along with Hazard (a male Shepherd) who had also shared his home. Moose was approximately 8-years old at that time. He and Hazard had been kept in safe-keeping custody. Both boys are now available for adoption since their owner surrendered Moose and Hazard to the dog warden/HSOV on September 3, 2025. Moose has a fawn-colored short smooth coat, a docked tail, and a gorgeous Mastiff face with dark brown eyes, a black mask, black shading on his broad muzzle, a black velvet nose, and short floppy ears. Moose and Hazard have shared a large suite in our Safe-Keeping Building since their arrival where they have access to a private outdoor 'patio'. Moose and Hazard are being listed as a Bonded Pair since we feel that it it is their best interest to find another home together. Moose weighed 92 lbs when he entered our shelter on October 24, 2024, and he had already been neutered. Moose appears to have gained a few pounds in the past year (smile). These updated photos of Moose were taken on September 28, 2025. Thanks to HSOV Volunteer Angel Grosklos for accompanying Moose for more flattering outdoor photos. Moose is a wanna-be lap dog, and he loved to demonstrate how proficient he was at being a 'good boy' and shaking paws with Angel .. In fact nearly half of his photos were demonstrating how well he could shake paws Since Moose and Hazard are so bonded with each other, Angel and HSOV Volunteer Jennie Payton Sherrard teamed up to walk the boys together from their 'bachelor pad' in the Safe Haven Building so that they did not have to be separated from each other. Both Moose and Hazard have extra-friendly dispositions and super-sweet personalities. They were in 'seventh heaven' during their photo session and loved being showered with attention from Angel and Jennie. Their previous owner shared this information about Hazard and Moose: "They are amazing and sweet dogs!!! They love cuddles and treats!!! Hazard aka Hazzy is extremely scared of thunderstorms, loves raw green and red bell peppers, they both love watermelon. Hazard loves balls, and squeaky toys. Moose has one stuffed animal which he has loved all his life and you can get it at chewy, because it gets gross and will need replaced after being washed a hundred times. Hazard is a big talker, Moose is very laid back and quiet. They are quite the odd couple, but love each other dearly!!! They are the best dogs in the world!!!"

Story
Steven is a handsome 4-year old male American Staffordshire Terrier mix who was brought to the HSOV on December 6, 2024 by a Good Samaritan who found him on Echo Valley Road in the Waterford Ohio area. Steven was accompanied by his best friend Arlo (a 3-year old male Yellow Labrador Retriever) who is also in our shelter. Neither of these boys were wearing a collar, and they were not microchipped. Steven has a chocolate brown-and-white coat, a long tail, and an adorable chubby face with dark brown eyes, a brown patch around his right eye, a black button nose, and semi-erect ears. Steven has the cutest wrinkles on his chubby face which gives him the sweetest appearance. Steven and Arlo are continuing to enjoy their own 'bachelor's pad' in our Safe Haven Building where they have the freedom of not being in a kennel. Neither Steven nor Arlo accepts cats into their circle of friends and cannot be trusted to be nice to them. Steven is a muscular boy who weighs 68 lbs. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Steven and Arlo were held for three days so that their family would have an opportunity to reclaim them with proof of ownership. Sadly, nobody called or came looking for this magnificent pair of best friends. Update: Steven was neutered on September 24, 2025 and was also given rabies vaccine. Thanks to HSOV Volunteer Jennie Payton Sherrard for spending time with Steven for these updated photos late in the afternoon on September 28, 2025. Steven's personality has blossomed over the past several months, and he was a joy to photograph with Jennie by his side. Steven was fascinated with the paparazzi and was a real 'ham' for the camera. Since Steven and Arlo are very bonded with each other, Jennie and HSOV Volunteer Angel Grosklos teamed up to walk both boys from their 'apartment' in the Safe Haven Building so that they did not have to be separated. Steven and Arlo are both neutered, so they could leave our shelter immediately (together of course) with an approved HSOV foster/adoption application.
