Story
Hazel is a sweet 6-year old+ female Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler mix who was brought to the HSOV on February 19, 2026 by the Washington County Ohio Dog Warden who had picked Hazel up at 4900 State Route 676 in Stockport Ohio. This little lady was not wearing a collar, and she was not microchipped. Hazel has a gray-and-white coat with subtle tan shading, a long tail, and a beautiful face with soulful brown eyes, a slender muzzle, and large floppy gray/white ears. Hazel has a quiet, gentle disposition and has touched the heart of everyone who has met this lovely older girl. Hazel is currently being housed in the front office of our shelter where she is enjoying out-of-cage/kennel freedom. Hazel loves the soft beds/blankets and sharing snacks with our HSOV staff .. And she especially loves being with someone during the day to politely ask for attention and to be told what a good girl she is. Hazel is absolutely precious (and even more so when you watch her quietly taking a nap nestled in her bed/blankets. Hazel currently weighs 37.6 lbs and isn't a very large girl when you see her in person. Hazel is gentle/easy to walk on a leash when she is taken for short walks and/or bathroom breaks. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Hazel was held for the mandatory three-day stray hold so that her family would have an opportunity to reclaim her with proof of ownership. We had posted her pictures on our HSOV Facebook pages the day she arrived and hoped that someone would recognize her. Sadly, nobody called or came looking for this little sweetheart. Hazel would love to find a quiet home with someone who would be with her 24/7 and to be her new soulmate.

Story
Moose is a magnificent male Bull Mastiff who was brought to the HSOV on October 24, 2024 by the Washington County Ohio Dog Warden along with Hazard (a male Shepherd) who had also shared his home. Moose was approximately 8-years old at that time. He and Hazard had been kept in safe-keeping custody. Both boys are now available for adoption since their owner surrendered Moose and Hazard to the dog warden/HSOV on September 3, 2025. Moose has a fawn-colored short smooth coat, a docked tail, and a gorgeous Mastiff face with dark brown eyes, a black mask, black shading on his broad muzzle, a black velvet nose, and short floppy ears. Moose and Hazard have shared a large suite in our Safe-Keeping Building since their arrival where they have access to a private outdoor 'patio'. Moose and Hazard are being listed as a Bonded Pair since we feel that it it is their best interest to find another home together. Moose weighed 92 lbs when he entered our shelter on October 24, 2024, and he had already been neutered. Moose appears to have gained a few pounds in the past year (smile). These updated photos of Moose were taken on September 28, 2025. Thanks to HSOV Volunteer Angel Grosklos for accompanying Moose for more flattering outdoor photos. Moose is a wanna-be lap dog, and he loved to demonstrate how proficient he was at being a 'good boy' and shaking paws with Angel .. In fact nearly half of his photos were demonstrating how well he could shake paws Since Moose and Hazard are so bonded with each other, Angel and HSOV Volunteer Jennie Payton Sherrard teamed up to walk the boys together from their 'bachelor pad' in the Safe Haven Building so that they did not have to be separated from each other. Both Moose and Hazard have extra-friendly dispositions and super-sweet personalities. They were in 'seventh heaven' during their photo session and loved being showered with attention from Angel and Jennie. Their previous owner shared this information about Hazard and Moose: "They are amazing and sweet dogs!!! They love cuddles and treats!!! Hazard aka Hazzy is extremely scared of thunderstorms, loves raw green and red bell peppers, they both love watermelon. Hazard loves balls, and squeaky toys. Moose has one stuffed animal which he has loved all his life and you can get it at chewy, because it gets gross and will need replaced after being washed a hundred times. Hazard is a big talker, Moose is very laid back and quiet. They are quite the odd couple, but love each other dearly!!! They are the best dogs in the world!!!"

Story
ZuZu is a lovely 2-1/2 year old female (possible) Boxer/American Pit Bull Terrier mix who was brought to the HSOV on April 19, 2026 by a Good Samaritan who found her on State Route 555 in the Little Hocking Ohio area. ZuZu was wearing a collar but, unfortunately, there was neither an id tag nor a dog tag on her collar .. And she was not microchipped. ZuZu has a white short smooth coat, a long tail, and a beautiful face with hopeful innocent eyes, a black button nose, a square muzzle, and short floppy ears which are sprinkled with black spotting. This sweet girl has a friendly outgoing personality and loves attention. She appears to have had litters of puppies in her lifetime. ZuZu weighed 36 lbs when she entered our shelter and could easily gain several pounds to fill out her slim trim figure. ZuZu is fairly strong on a leash in spite of her size. These photos of ZuZu were taken on the afternoon of April 24th when HSOV Volunteer Jennie Sherrard accompanied her for outdoor glamour pictures. ZuZu was such a 'good girl' and looked so cute in her heart-covered pink bandana. She thoroughly enjoyed being the center of attention. ZuZu appears to be housetrained, so someone has surely loved ZuZu and cared about her. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, ZuZu was held for the mandatory three-day stray hold so that her family would have an opportunity to reclaim her with proof of ownership. Since nobody called or came looking for her, ZuZu can be fostered or fostered-to-adopt with an approved HSOV foster/adoption application.

Story
Punky is a beautiful female Mastiff/Boxer mix who was surrendered by her family on July 15, 2024 (and unfortunately that is not a typographical error on the year 2024 since Punky has been in our shelter for nearly 1-1/2 years). Punky was 3-years old when she came to HSOV and is currently 4-years+ Punky has a brown short smooth coat with a large white bib on her chest, white paws, a long tail, and an adorable symmetrically-marked face with black shading around her brown soulful 'teddy bear' eyes, a black button nose, a chubby muzzle, and semi-erect ears. Her family told us that Punky had been in their home since she was a 6-week old puppy. Punky is good with her people friends (including children). She is selective about which dogs she included in her circle of friends. Punky is not good with feline friends. When she was in her home, Punky's exercise routine consisted of spending time in the fenced-in yard, but her favorite routine was being a lap dog (smile). When she was frightened, Punky would climb in bed with her people. Punky's favorite pastimes were cuddling on the couch and enjoying stuffed toys. Punky has become a favorite of many of our kennel tech/shelter staff as well as volunteers. Punky has also made some doggy friends at HSOV and especially loves to walk with Spice (a neutered male brindle/white Boxer/Pit Bull Terrier mix) when they each have a kennel tech/volunteer walking them side-by-side on leashes. Punky was spayed on September 29, 2025 and was also given rabies vaccine. She weighed 68.2 lbs that day. These updated photos of Punky were taken on October 11, 2025 when HSOV Volunteer Jennie Payton Sherrard spent time with Punky in our outdoor photo area. Punky LOVES to spend time in the green grass, so she chose to 'sit pretty' or leisurely stretch out and simply look adorable in most of her new glamour pictures. Punk displayed her sweet disposition and loved attention (and 'good girl' treats) from her fan club members who were nearby. Punky was recently the first runner-up in an AI-generated Halloween Costume contest which featured several HSOV dogs. Punky was a cute Flower Child/Hippie and donned the costume well .. And she was treated to a special day away from the shelter to celebrate her second-place win in the contest thanks to HSOV Volunteers Alicia Byrd and Matt Carlisle. Punky dreams of winning the "I Found The Best Home Ever" Lottery .. And that someone special will complete/submit an HSOV Adoption (or Foster) Application with her name at the top (smile). Punky's adoption fee has been sponsored~ Punky went home with a foster family on October 30, 2025 who plans to adopt her if all goes well. Unfortunately Punky came back to our shelter on November 4th. Punky was good with the family's older children but was anxious around the infant/baby in her foster home .. And Punky displayed severe separation anxiety issues. So she is looking for a home without young children and with a family who could help her overcome her separation anxiety when left alone. And Punky was still working on her housetraining routine.

Story
Mac is a cute 2-year old male (possible) Mountain Feist mix who arrived at the HSOV on March 10, 2026 after he was picked up on Second Street in Vincent Ohio by the Washington Cunty Ohio Dog Warden. Mac was wearing a collar but there was neither an id tag nor a dog tag to enable us to locate his owner. A microchip was detected when he was scanned but, unfortunately, there was no contact information available. Mac has a black-and-white coat, rather long legs, a long tail, and a beautiful symmetrically-marked tricolor face with dark brown eyes, a thin white stripe on his forehead, a long slender muzzle, and extra-large semi-erect ears. This little playboy is full of energy and doesn't stand still or stay in one spot very long. Mac is interested in everything going on around him, and he wants to be with his people friends. These pictures of Mac were taken on March 15th when HSOV Kennel Tech Avah Day accompanied him for his outdoor photo session. Mac initially engaged Avah in some silly 'puppy' games but he eventually got serious about the paparazzi thing and posed for some still-life photos in addition to some action shots. Mac has already been neutered. He is fairly energetic on a leash and would love to find a home with a family or individual who had an active lifestyle. Mac could be a fantastic jogging buddy. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Mac was held for the mandatory three-day stray hold so that his family would have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership. Surprisingly nobody has called or came look for this sweet young man. Someone surely has loved him and cared enough for Mac to have had him neutered.

Story
Clyde is a handsome one-year old male Hound mix who arrived at HSOV on February 12, 2026 after he was picked up on Third Street (300 Block) by a Marietta Ohio City Policeman. Clyde was wearing a collar but, unfortunately, there was neither an id tag nor a dog license tag on his collar .. And he was not microchipped. This young man has a brown short smooth coat, a long tail, and a beautiful face with bi-colored (heterochromia) eyes, a black button nose, a slender muzzle, and short floppy ears. Clyde's left eye is blue and his right eye is brown/blue which gives him a unique facial appearance. Clyde was super friendly when these photos were taken on February 14th 2026 while he was enjoying some fresh air and sunshine in one of our outdoor kennels while his floor crate/blankets were being cleaned. Clyde weighs 45 lbs. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Clyde was held for the mandatory three-day stray hold so that his family would have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership. Surprisingly, nobody called or came looking for this sweet boy. Update: Clyde was neutered on March 23, 2026 and was also given rabies vaccine. Since Clyde has been neutered, he is ready to find a home of his very own. Clyde could leave our shelter immediately with an approved HSOV adoption application ..
