It was a tough decision, but one that had to be made. Gemma is as sweet as they come and very friendly! She LOVES attention and will follow you wherever you go in the house and yard. She gets along great with other dogs, male and female, but please no big dogs because, as small as she is and never having been around one, they would scare her too much. We are also saying no to cats, mainly because she’s never been around one, and we have no way to properly test her with one. If you are looking for a love bug, then Gemma would be the one for you, but understand she has never been an only dog, so we’ll only consider people who have another young, small dog to keep her company while you are out of the home. Our must-haves for sweet little Gemma include: A fenced yard Someone who can be home more often than not Another young, small dog for her to play with and cuddle with No apartments, high-rises, or condos since she, like other Dachshunds, likes to bark If you think you can give Gemma the home she deserves, please apply online and go through the approval process. ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten. If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal. There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered. We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures. To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3. Click this link to apply: https://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/apply, it will take you to the application form. Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.

Story
Whiskey is a beautiful panda shepherd just shy of 2 years old. He was surrendered to MAS because he was too protective over his family in their home with visitors. Whiskey needs a home with a family that has shepherd experience as Whiskey is a guardian breed and does his job well. During the last few weeks getting to know him, he has really come out of his shell and has been a pleasure. He loves chicken jerky treats and his all time favorite toy is a tennis ball. Whiskey knows basic commands but being a shepherd he`ll need structure and a family who will keep up on his training. He does a great job keeping his kennel clean as well! Whiskey has a lot of interest in meeting other pups and staff think he would enjoy having a canine companion. As always a meet and greet is necessary before he joins a family with other pups. It is unknown how he would react to a feline. Whiskey is a fabulous dog and has all the traits a working shepherd should have. He`s eager to please, has an energy drive, and specializes in protecting his favorite people. Whiskey needs slow introductions to new friends since he still has `stranger danger`. But with a tennis ball and a snack he`ll become your pal in no time. Stop in and meet this hunk soon!

Story
Hey, my name is Jar Jar Binks and yes I did come in on May the Fourth! I`m a fun loving young man with lots of energy! I`m a just around 8 months old so I still have a lot to learn! I do seem to be housetrained as I`ve always kept my kennel clean here but I may need time to adjust to your schedule at first. I`m a bouncy guy who may be a bit too much for young children, I may accidentally knock them down, and I do like to grab for food/treats. I`m working on taking things gently, the sit command, and my leash walking skills but I still have a ways to go. An obedience class may be a great thing for us to take together! NOTICE: While we are open to the public again, we are still trying to limit the number of visitors coming in to the shelter. We ask that only those seriously interested in adopting come to visit at this time. You must also have an approved adoption application on file with us before you`re allowed to view the animals. Applications can be found on our website mashelter.org, physical copies can also be found in the donation bin located in front of the shelter too. If you`re still having trouble accessing our adoption application please reach out to us.~906-864-7297~animals@mashelter.org

Story
Coraline was abandoned by her owner at MAS as a stray. Come to find out, she wasn`t a stray at all. Estimated to be around a year old, this lady is happy, energetic, and shows all of the young pup personality. Coraline loves people and soaking up any and all attention she can get. She enjoys her walk time with volunteers and always is excited for play sessions. Coraline loves fetch and has lots of kisses to share with her friends. We think Coraline would ace a meet and greet with potential new pup friends and is young enough to acclimate to kitties running around with training not to chase. This beautiful gal is ready to meet her forever family!

Story
Hazel and her brother Diesel are visiting the shelter to find a new home. Close to a year old and 30 pounds, she`s a great size and has lots of love to give! Unlike her brother, Hazel is a lot more timid about meeting new people so will need a little bit of warm up time before she`s comfortable - but Hazel is easy to win over if you have a snack or two available! This lady is a low rider. We`re talking stubby legs. She`s adorable and she knows it! Hazel has lived with another dog before but it is unknown how she`d react to a feline. Do you have room in your home for this special gal? Stop in and see her soon.
