You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee $200 plus taxHi. I’m Bear! It’s said that each of us is a product of our environment. That’s only partially true in my case. Things were pretty rough for a while, but I haven’t let that affect my outlook on life. Now that I’m in a calm and kind environment, my playful and curious personality can shine again! Despite being a senior, I have lots of energy and absolutely love walks and playing fetch! Especially fetch. I sometimes pull when out walking—those darn squirrels and rabbits—but my foster mom gives me an 8 out of 10 for leash manners. I get along well with cats, smaller dogs, and kids. I’m pretty wary of strangers, but warm up quickly when I’m introduced carefully to new people. I’m a good boy, fully housetrained, accept my kennel, and know basic commands. And did I mention that I love playing fetch? I look forward to being a loyal companion for someone who likes to train and work with German Shepherds (and play fetch!). Are you that special person?  Bear will thrive in a home without shared walls or hallways as he perfers to have his own spaceBear has an immune-mediated condition that without medication creates painful draining tracts around his anus. Daily medication, either a pill or ointment applied to the bum, will need to be given lifelong to manage this condition. He has responded very well to the medication in rescue and never let his condition slow him down to begin with!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.  or    *The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Story
Well hello! My name is Lumberjack but my foster parents call me Jack Jack or Fluffy Butt! I’m a German Shepherd mix born 6/1/23. I am a big, fluffy, silly boy who LOVES to be outside! I love laying in the snow/mud/grass, playing with sticks, carrying toys around, playing chase with the resident dogs, and anything outside. Sometimes I don't even want to come inside! I have loved everyone I have ever met! I am good with kids and adults. So far I like all of the resident dogs too. I don't know how I would be around cats, but I did get to see one and just wanted to smell it. I am kennel trained and I go right in and wait for a treat when my foster parents are ready to leave. I am still a puppy and because I am so big, I like to pull things off the counters, find shoes to chew on, and bring sticks into the house. I am much better when I have a big antler or bone to chew on! I do pretty good on a leash but I will need a little more training. As far as being in the car, well I do get nervous right away but then calm down as we drive further and just lay down in the backseat. I am fully potty trained and can't wait to go outside to do my business. I don't usually sleep in the bed but I do like to come up and say hi and snuggle for a bit. I usually just sleep in my kennel with the door open. As you can see, I am a really good boy and ready to find my forever home. Is that you?   Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Snapshot of Trooper: Size: Large, 75lbs Activity Level: High Noise Level: moderate barking but quiet in the house Good with Dogs: yes Good with Cats: unknown Good with Kids: No Good with Strangers: Skittish and slow introduction but warms up quickly. Potty Trained: Yes Crate Trained: Yes Shedding: Yes Hi my name is Trooper: I think I'm pretty much a pure German Shepard but its tough to tell because nobody knows where I came from. I was found on the streets, severely underweight and in pretty bad shape, but finally got taken into rescue and was given some much-needed love and care. During this whole journey, they told me that I am likely about 3.5 years old and although I was skinny at the time, they helped me get back to a normal weight of about 75lbs. Being on the streets made me pretty weary of new people, so I am not a huge fan of strangers and don't like being approached. Because of this, I don't think I would do the best around young kids; however, after you give me some time to check you out, I do warm up quick. I haven't been around many cats, but I do know that I am a fan of playing with the dog friends my family has introduced me to. Aside from some of my skittish behaviors and fear towards new people, I actually am very smart. My foster parents tell me that I am one of the smartest dogs they know and love making me do all these ridiculous things. I know the basic commands like sit, shake, stay, and lay down, but also know a few others like when to place on my mat and can go to my kennel when being told...usually. I also am big fan of play wrestling with my foster parents but am still working on calming myself down when they tell me they're done. I can get a little mouthy (I call them teeth kisses) but have learned that this is a bad trait to have, so I have been working hard to stop doing that as well. I can definitely keep up with an energetic lifestyle and love to play and go on walks. When I am not playing, I don't mind lounging around. I typically like staying near my people and making sure I know what is happening at all times, and definitely love some cuddles and belly scratches. Overall, I know there are some things I need to work on, but I am convinced that if someone can continue to work with me, I can make a great companion. I love being outside so would love a place where I can still explore the yard and have room to run around. I wouldn't mind sharing a house with another pup as long as they can manage playing rough sometimes. While I might not do great in a crazy home with kids and tons of new people, I would love to be someone's buddy for life. Trooper is fixed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations for his age. Adoption Fee: $400 + applicable tax Trooper is currently on medication for skin allergies. With his reactivity and anxiety he will need further training and possibly medication to help him. Snapshot of Lady: Size? Medium ~35 pounds at 9 months of age Activity Level? High I'm still a puppy so I have lots of energy! Noise Level? I whine to outside and potty and occasionally bark at the door but I am generally very quiet Good with Dogs? Yes, Good with Cats? Yes Good with Kids? Yes Good with Strangers? I love everyone! Potty Trained? Yes Crate Trained? Working on it, still getting better Shedding? I don't shed much About Lady: Hi my name is Lady, Ladybug, or Ladybird! I have a ton of energy and can play all day. I love chewing and chew toys with my entire being. I constantly rough house with the resident pack but snuggle with them at night. I love people and am good with kids, but sometimes jump up to greet. I am so curious about the old resident cats, but they don't like me and I respect that. I sleep well in my crate at night if I'm in the same room with someone. Likewise, I don't mind the crate if a resident dog is in the same room. I am a sweet and affectionate girl who loves daily walks and would love to accompany you on a run. I'd do best in a home that can match my energy. I do not want the other dog in the house to have my toys or my food, which is called resource guarding. My foster family is helping me work through this. Lady is a sweet dog who loves anything and everyone she meets. She can be shy at first but works through it. This beautiful girl is looking forward to finding her furrever home. Lady is fixed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations for her age.
