Story
Hi! My name is Ripp and I bet you are wondering what an adorable puppy like me is doing up for adoption. I came to The Bond Between at only 6 months with some concerns for back leg weakness and a heart murmur. Recently I was diagnosed with fibrotic myopathy which means my muscles do not heal properly and become dense making it difficult for them to contract and do their job of moving when I want them to. There is no medical intervention to treat this so I am just learning to get around without full use of my back legs. However, since coming to rescue I've built up a lot of muscle with regular exercise and at home leg stretches so I am getting around, jumping into vehicles, and climbing stairs like any other puppy my age. The vet also noticed a heart murmur but the cardiologist says it's nothing to be concerned about. None of these things slow me down in the slightest, I am pain free and absolutely digging life! Speaking of digging did I mention how much I love digging in the mud? I am the happiest puppy in the world but I am most happy when I am causing chaos. I chase leaves, balls, squirrels and I even do a very good job of keeping up with my foster brothers. My foster mom thinks I don't even know I'm any different than any other dog. I am a pure bred German Shepherd which means I am high energy and very smart so I will need a family that can keep up with me and work on training to keep my mind busy. I am also very loveable, and loyal I give kisses and love cuddling after a busy day of chewing bones and playing. I am sometimes very clumsy and always very goofy, I do a lot of talking to my people and other dogs, I love when I get attention and I know a few cute head tilts and whines will get me a lot of "awws and attention from people. I am completely potty and crate trained but am working on leash manners and to not be so mouthy when I'm playing or bored. I get along great with other dogs and considering my age I would likely adapt nicely to other small animals in the home. I am 75lbs and still working on putting on weight and will definitely be a large dog when I'm all grown up. I may require a little extra work and commitment someday but I promise to pay you back with love in spades. Accepting applications for my new best friend today! Medical Bio: "I would love for my furever family to know a bit more about my medical history! I do have fibrotic myopathy, but at this time my mobility hasn't been getting any worse and I manage as best I can. Management of this with pain meds if they were ever necessary could be an option for me at some point in the future. I was also diagnosed with a heart condition called a ventricular septal defect which is essentially a hole in my heart and an associate heart murmur. Don't worry, they say it's really small and the cardiology specialist says they "don't ever expect this to be a concern for Ripp" Score. My adopters should know it may be recommended to have my heart checked annually for an echocardiogram for monitoring. Grain inclusive diets will be recommended for me and if a home cooked diet is preferred, a board certified veterinary nutritionist should be consulted."

I need a temp foster August 2-4! Please email fostersupport@thebondbetween.org to sign up to foster! Hi, my name is Dora. I am from a local MN shelter. Dora is a sweet and bold girl! She is curious, playful, and enjoys a day full of adventure (unless it has to do with water, she's still exploring if she loves it or not)! She loves to be with her human friends! She does well with our resident dog (she has not been introduced to other dogs yet, but slow intros would be best for her). She is curious about our cat and with continued positive interactions, she could do well. She is vocal when she is nervous and she does not like her kennel (when in it, she does bark a lot). She is a puppy and will benefit from continuous positivie training with behavior but with positive reinforcments, she will do well. She is working on her potty training and doing really well! She will stand by the door to let us know when its time to go out. She knows sit and working on shake. Dora is the absolute best girl who will follow you on any adventure. She loves to please and is food motivated. She loves to play fetch and loves to run in our fenced in yard! From the Vet: My foster noticed I was drinking more water than normal so we mentioned it to the vet when I got spayed. Good news is that my labs all cam back normal so there was no indication of underlying disease. I will likely need between 2-6 cups per day depending on activity level, however if I am drinking more than this it may be an indication that I am needing more mental enrichment in my environment to avoid this. My furever family should know about this so they can monitor it and consult a primary vet at their cost after adoption should any issues arise related to this behavior. Can't wait to meet you!

Hi! My name is Blackie and I am from Minnesota. From his foster: Blackie is a sweet and fun pup. He likes to stay near his human and also enjoys playing with other dogs and running around the yard. He's working on potty training. As long as he's let out every 2-3 hours, he's not likely to have accidents in the house. He can happily sleep in his crate for 5-6 hours at night and keep his crate clean. He has a good temperament and is great with other dogs/kids.

Story
Hi! My name is Zuma and I am from Minnesota. From her foster: Please read about sweet Zuma who we have been calling Betty. She is a super sweet, cuddly, smart, curious, playful and affectionate girl. She loves to be around her people as much as she can, but is also fine being left to her own devices. She does well at entertaining herself if I can't give her my full attention. She doesn't seem to really react to other dogs, people or noises around her. Mostly she will sit quietly and observe until she's approached. She's such a well behaved little lady! She's currently learning to sit and focus - both are going really well! Being that she is still so young, she does get easily distracted when we're training, but she's easy to redirect back to me. We're still working on crate training. She does well in the crate for naps when we're home and overnight, but doesn't like being put in there when we need to leave the house. She's doing so well at holding her bladder and if taken out on a consistent schedule, Betty will always go potty outside. The only indoor accidents have been when I've waited a little too long to take her out. She's not asking to go out on her own yet but does a good job with a schedule and I am sure that will be coming next!

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  Please apply online to schedule a one-on-one meeting with me - https://underdogrescuemn.com/canine-adoption-application/ DOB: Approximately 5/23/16 Requires another dog in home: Yes, needs another large social dog Okay with dogs of all sizes: Yes Okay with cats: Unknown Okay with children under 12 years old: Unknown weigh: 63 pounds Requires a fenced yard: Yes Note: dogs must always be leashed whenever outside of a contained area Hello, my name is Ellen. I am a gorgeous, sweet, and very kind albeit shy adult female German Shepherd. Truth be told, I am afraid of pretty much everything in this enormous world from commotion to loud noises like thunderstorms so a fenced yard is a must. Additionally, I am looking for a VERY special fur-ever family who is lovingly patient and will NEVER give up on me! I have not met any cats or kids, but I am good with other dogs and will need another large dog who will help me feel comfortable and secure! I don’t play much but I’m a smart girl who knows what “go potty” means and I’m potty & leash trained. As for the kennel/crate, foster mom doesn’t put me in that cave because I am an amazingly good girl who simply lays in her bedroom, she can even shut the door if she wants to because I feel safe in there. I am very slowly learning what it’s like to feel safe and loved. In fact, I have become comfortable enough with foster mom that I greet her in the morning by putting my head right next to hers while I patiently await lovingly gentle head scratches! Hint, hint! By the way, I also love butt scratches and ear rubs! Just sayin’! Hee, hee!! Anyway, I really am an incredibly sweet girl who tries SO hard to be brave. All I need now is a calm fur-ever home. Sure, I may not ever be that girl that greets you at the door or gives you kisses but I assure you that I have an enormous heart that is brimming with unconditional love and I long to share with YOU!! All I ask is that you give unconditional love in return and allow me the time, space, and patience I need to become comfortable and learn to trust in my own time! I promise that I’m worth it and in time, I will love you more than all the pebbles of sand on the planet! Love, Ellen *Many of our dogs are rescued from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends.  In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs. ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there***  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  Hi there! My name is Sunny, and I’m a 2-year-old Shepard Mix weighing 65 pounds. Despite having some old fractures in my back left leg from being hit by a car, I’m a cheerful and loving girl. I take medication (Galiprant) for pain and inflammation, and I have some arthritis developing in that area so my forever family will need to make sure I stay slim and fit. I absolutely love being around my people and can be a bit of a velcro dog, always wanting to be right by your side. I do have severe separation anxiety, but with the right kind of crate, medications (trazodone, clonidine, and gabapentin), and distractions like toys, talk radio, and treats like Kongs, I've been doing much better. I’m incredibly smart, which means I learn commands and tricks easily, but it also means I can figure out how to open crates, doors, trash cans, and even toilets unless measures are taken to prevent it. I’m super playful and love toys, especially crinkly and squeaky ones, and I adore chasing balls. Sometimes, I get a bit hyper and playful-aggressive, especially if I’ve been crated for a while or am greeting someone who has been away. I use my mouth a lot when I’m happy and excited, snapping my jaws and mouthing at people. I’m known as the "sweet shark" around my foster home because of it! Normally, my mouthing isn’t a big deal, and I can be redirected, but sometimes I bite a bit hard out of excitement. Because of this, I might not be the best fit for homes with young kids or people who are hesitant around dogs. I’m almost potty trained as long as I’m on a good schedule, and I do well with a special crate. I broke out of traditional wire and plastic crates, but I sleep in a plastic crate at night without breaking out since I can see my humans. I do require a fenced yard as I am not leash trained. I know commands like 'Sit,' 'Kennel/Crate,' 'Wait,' 'Go Potty,' and 'Lay Down.' I get along well with dogs of all sizes, though I’ve never lived with another dog. Given my separation anxiety, having another dog might help me, but I’m not sure since I’ve been doing better with my medications and special crate. I’m a sweet, goofy girl who’s been through a lot and deserves all the love. I’m super loyal and loving, and I’ll reciprocate all the affection I receive. I love doing happy dances when I win at playing tug with my toys, and I make my humans laugh every day with my silly smiles and joyful exuberance. I can’t wait to find a family that will recognize what a gem I am. Could you be my forever home? Love, Sunny *Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home. Story
Hi people of San Antonio! My name is Ralf aka Ralfy aka Ralfy Palfy. My fosters gave me the last nickname because they say I will make someone a great Pal. You see, I was found on the side of the road barely alive after being hit by a car. I couldn't walk very well because my pelvis was broken in three places. But after visiting this place called the veterinarian, I started feeling much better. Unfortunately before my accident I had never met kind humans and still to this day, I'm very easily startled and scared of new people. It's going to take someone very special and patient to earn my trust. But once you earn it, I'm the sweetest and most gentle dog ever. I love love love chest rubs and ear scratches. But my number one love of all time is treats!!! I love all flavors so if you decide to take me home, don't be shy when shopping for me! I enjoy sunbathing and relaxing in my kennel. It's my safe place when I feel overwhelmed. I promise to love you if you promise to take the time to get to know me. I will do best in a quiet house with maybe 1 or 2 adults and an older mature doggy friend. I don't care much for traveling and prefer to be a homebody. I do love to play with doggy friends and don't mind cats either. I'm currently working on becoming more confident in public spaces. What do you say? Can you give me a shot? Ralf is kennel trained and potty trained. He is a local adoption only. His current foster is a trainer who is willing to offer two free sessions along with his adoption to set you both up for success and better help you understand what he will need and how you can help provide that for him. He is a Shepherd mix that weighs roughly 50lbs. Local adoption only $200 (in TX)

Greetings, mortals! I am Aries, a majestic male dog with a powerful spirit that rivals the might of the gods themselves. My lineage is a fusion of strength and courage, much like the mythical Greek warriors of old. As a German Shepherd mix, I bear the mantle of both protector and loyal companion, ready to embark on epic adventures by your side. Behold, my most distinctive feature: my big, floppy ears that listen keenly to the whispers of the wind and the secrets of the world around me. They stand as a testament to my unwavering vigilance, always attuned to the slightest rustle or sign of danger. Like the fiery ram that represents my namesake constellation, I possess boundless energy and a fiery spirit. With every step I take, I channel the might of the heavens, exuding the strength and grace befitting of a true Greek hero. My paws tread the earth with purpose, and my heart beats with the fervor of an ancient battle cry. But fear not, for beneath my divine exterior lies a heart overflowing with affection. I am not just a warrior; I am a loyal and loving companion. Together, we shall conquer every challenge and forge an unbreakable bond that even the gods would envy. So, dear mortal, if you seek a canine ally who embodies the essence of a Greek legend, look no further. I, Aries, the German Shepherd mix with big floppy ears, am here to join you on a quest of a lifetime. Let us create a mythic tale of companionship and courage that will be sung by bards for generations to come.
