Story
Forest is a very handsome dog with a gentle, sweet temperament. He came to us from a Reservation – someone took him as a pup, but after a year, didn’t want him anymore (said he got too big, plus kept wandering back to the farm where he was born). He was taken in by a rescue partner that lives on a farm until he could be transported to Second Chance. This easy-going boy proved to be good with dogs, cats, adults, kids, chickens, cows, goats, horses….all the farm animals he encountered. Forest is a 1 yr. old, 84#, shepherd-pyrenees mix with floppy ears. His foster mom says he needs to gain weight, and that underneath his fluffy coat of fur you can see and feel all his ribs; she is guessing his ideal weight might be close to 100#. Forest loves pets and attention – if you stop petting him, he will gently give you a paw to encourage you keep the pets coming. He is good with the resident dogs – playful with the same-size female, and respects the male’s desire to be left alone. At his one trip to the dog park (which he absolutely loved), he was good with dogs of all sizes. Ignores the 2 cats. Forest is housebroken – he doesn’t ask to go out, so you need to establish a schedule so he gets out at least 4-5 times/day. He sleeps on the floor in your bedroom at night, and isn’t permitted on the furniture. At first, he was confined in the laundry room when left, but now has free run of the house AS LONG AS all the shoes are picked up and he has approved things to chew on. His foster mom works from home, so he has someone with him much of the time. He is learning how to play with toys. Easy to walk him on leash, is learning to respond to his name when called (was previously named Flop), and will “sit” for a treat. His recall isn’t perfect – still a work in progress. Seldom barks – might complain initially if confined in a room, but doesn’t join in when the other dogs bark. He hasn’t had much experience riding in a vehicle, and will drool. Forest likes to be with people and other dogs – his ideal home would have another playful dog and a fenced yard. Forest has been neutered, and is current on distemper, rabies and Bordetella vaccinations. He is microchipped, and his heartworm test is negative. The adoption fee for this friendly, easy going dog is $350. Call 651-771-5662 if you are interested in meeting Forest.

Story
Maui was purchased at 6 weeks old at a German shepard breeder in Monticello, Minnesota. Maui recently turned 5 years old on July 3rd. Maui is looking for a loving family that can spend time with him outside, especially in the winter as its his favorite season. Maui loves plenty of deck time basking in the sun when the weather permits. Maui is very protective which is an important role as a German shepard to protect the ones he love and care about. Maui is trained in house commands such as; place (going to his place mat), kennel, free (release word), and yes (used for food/treats). Maui had a little cat brother that he adored and enjoyed plenty of play fights with. As big as Maui is, he loves to cuddle like he is a lap dog. Maui loves to eat honeydew, his dental treats, and just treats in general.

Story
Truckee is a four-year-old German Shepherd mix who firmly believes he's a 55-lb lap dog. He approaches with his head tucked in and gently paws at you for attention, then trots around when he’s excited, following you everywhere to supervise your tasks. He settled into home life right away, fully house-trained and crate-trained. Truckee sleeps comfortably in his crate at night and stays in it when left alone, entering it on command like a pro. He came into foster care underweight and a little unsure, so he still looks for food, but he’s learning quickly that meals and love are consistent and safe.Truckee is gentle with everyone he meets though he will need to learn more confidence when making new friends. He is curious about other dogs and cats, though unsure, so a proper introduction is recommended. He’s also been kind to all people, but does not have a lot of experience with young kids.Truckee is energetic, loves anything outdoors, and gets two walks a day plus lots of yard time. He adores his tennis balls—fetch, chewing, carrying them around—you name it. He will require a fenced yard due to his energy level and can jump quite high. This sweetheart is looking for an active, patient family to give all his love to. Are you ready for Truckee? If you are interested in this dog, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $450. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. Due to post-adoption services provided, we prefer to adopt within a 150-mile radius of the Twin Cities. However, we will consider up to 250 miles if the foster agrees to travel requirements and staff approval.

Story
Luna is an 8-year-old German Shepherd mix, weighing in at 85 pounds of pure love. She's the perfect blend of playful and chill, always ready for a walk or a cozy snuggle session. Luna's favorite pastime? Enjoying her squeaky toy, Poppy—a pop tart-shaped toy that she loves to gently squeak while relaxing.Luna is the epitome of a loyal, gentle, and protective companion. She forms deep bonds with her family, making her the perfect guardian. While she can be a bit wary of strangers, especially in her home, Luna is working with a professional trainer to manage her anxiety around new people. With continued training, she’ll keep growing and learning to be more comfortable with unfamiliar faces.Fully house-trained, Luna knows exactly when it’s time to go outside, signaling by lying down or heading to the back door. She’s also crate-trained, viewing her crate as a safe and relaxing haven.Luna enjoys the company of other dogs and gets along well with her foster family's resident pup. She’s friendly with neighbor dogs too, though her interactions are mainly through the fence. Currently, she lives with two teenage girls and does wonderfully with them. However, because of her cautious nature around strangers, Luna might be best suited to a home without small children. She’s also not compatible with cats.Even though Luna is alert to people outside, she's unbothered by typical house or neighborhood sounds, making her well-suited for homes with shared walls. A fenced yard is a must for Luna—she will need plenty of room to run safely! Luna would thrive in a quieter home where visitors are infrequent. She’s a gentle soul who will give endless love and loyalty to her new family.Luna’s past might be a mystery, but her future is bright. If you’re looking for a devoted, loving companion, Luna could be the perfect fit for your home.If you are interested in Luna, fill out an application using the link below to get the ball rolling! https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Story
Name: Oso Breeds: German Shepherd Age: Adult Sex: Male Size: Extra Large Oso is a big German Shepherd surrendered due to continued issues between him and the other dog in the home. Oso took the brunt of the fighting it seemed but that hasn’t left him with any ill will towards other dogs. In fact, he loves other dogs and loves to play with them! He is an absolute lovebug, loves his people and will follow his owners to the ends of the earth if they asked him to. He is not good with cats. Oso does need a diet. He came in 110 lbs and a good 30 lbs overweight. He’s well on his way to losing weight and becoming a healthy pooch but he needs a home committed to keeping him on his diet and keeping him active. He absolutely loves his walks and playtime though! Oso is housetrained well and used to being left loose for the workday. He hates the crate and will fight tooth and nail so needs a home who is ok not crating. Oso is a big lovebug who is going to make a forever home so happy they chose him. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing in dogs over 6 months of age, deworming, microchip and current preventatives Interested in adopting? Story
Name: Perry Breeds: German Shepherd/ Bully Mix Age: Young Adult Sex: Male Size: Medium-Large when fully grown Perry is a young shepherd mix who is full of wiggles, silly, and love. At about 9 months old he is the perfect age to still have puppy energy and silliness but also have a solid start to training and the sense to think before he acts (most of the time!). Perry is housetrained, crates well for the workday, and minds his manners in the house well though there’s been a time or two that a shoe has moved spontaneously of its own accord and definitely was not because of Perry. He is excellent with other dogs and loves to play. Perry adores all people and loves to be included in all the activities with his people. He is a gem of an adolescent pooch!
