Story
Meet Lottie! She is a 2.5 year old mixed breed. We were told she most likely has some German Shepard, Doberman and Lab. We adopted Lottie from the humane society when she was 6 months old. We have had her for 2 years. She lives with another dog (German shepherd), 2 cats, and two children ages 8 and 10. Lottie has been a loving member of the family but has some quirks. Lottie should be in a home with experienced children, and slow dog introduction. Lottie is a very anxious girly. I recently battled stage 2 cancer and can no longer dedicate my time to continued training. Lottie would do best with someone who can give her the training she needs and deserves. She would make an amazing hiking buddy, loves car rides, and to swim. Lottie does show some resource guarding over food and bones. She is most anxious around men and very young children. She deserves so much and I want to see her thrive with a family who can give her all the time she needs. I would love to tell you more about her!

Story
Meet Kiara Kiara is a courtesy posting. If you are interested please apply and we will forward your application on to our rescue partner. Kiara’s story begins the way too many do — abandoned and left to fend for herself. When she was picked up after being dumped, one thing was immediately clear: she had been living with pain. She was scheduled to be spayed right away, and once she recovered, further evaluation began for a chronic limp that had been ongoing for over a month. Kiara tries so hard to power through it. She is weight-bearing, but only placing about 50–60% of her weight on her right front leg. After sedation and radiographs, the extent of the injury became clear. Kiara has significant trauma to her right elbow — likely 1–2 months old and possibly consistent with being hit by a car. Imaging revealed: • Elbow dislocation • Medial epicondyle fracture • Possible coronoid process fracture • Bone debris and arthritic changes The damage appears permanent. Surgical repair carries a guarded prognosis for restoring normal joint function. One option discussed was elbow fusion, which could reduce pain but would eliminate movement in that joint. If pain cannot be managed long term, amputation may ultimately provide her the best quality of life. Despite everything she has endured, Kiara is incredibly resilient. She doesn’t complain. She doesn’t give up. She just keeps trying to be a dog. Because of the complexity of her injury, several rescues have declined to take her on. But she deserves a chance — not just to survive, but to live comfortably and safely without chronic pain. She will be evaluated again next week to determine the best path forward. If amputation is recommended as the option that gives her the greatest quality of life, we will move forward and raise the funds needed to give her that chance. Kiara did not choose what happened to her. But we can choose what happens next. Stay tuned as we advocate for this brave girl and work to give her the pain-free future she deserves.

Story
Gianna’s ears have not fully decided what they want to be when they grow up, and honestly, that may be part of her charm. Born March 8, 2026, Gianna is a young German Shepherd Dog / Mix puppy with beautiful black and tan markings, a confident little personality, and the kind of bright, curious energy that makes people stop and smile. She is one of only two girls in her litter, but she has no trouble holding her own. Gianna loves playing with her littermates, snuggling when she is ready for a break, and being held by her people. She is still very much a puppy, so her day is best built around play, learning, exploring, naps, and then doing it all over again. This girl has moderate to high drive and will do best with a family ready to keep her body and brain busy. She loves water, enjoys fetch, and will need a yard where she can safely burn off some of that puppy energy. After good play and exercise, Gianna is happy to settle in for attention and cuddles. She is confident, smart, and shares well with others, including food, toys, people, and her ice cube treats. She has also shown comfort around kids and crowds, and she takes correction and training well. Like any young puppy, Gianna will need continued structure, socialization, potty training, leash work, boundaries, and patience as she grows. She has a great foundation, but her future family should be ready to keep building on it. Gianna is looking for a home that will give her the love, guidance, exercise, and training every puppy deserves. To learn more about Gianna and start your adoption journey, visit workingdogsnw.org

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Harlow has mastered the art of subtle charm—he’s the quiet thinker of his puppy crew, the one who watches first, then dives in with thoughtful curiosity. At just five months old, this German Shepherd Dog / Australian Shepherd blend carries a gentle confidence that’s hard to miss, even when he’s the shyest in the room. Life with Harlow feels like having a wise little apprentice by your side. He’s soaking up his surroundings like a sponge, learning fast and growing more assured every day. While he’s still easing into new experiences, Harlow’s sweet nature and calm demeanor make him a natural companion for another dog who can show him the ropes. Think of him as a student eager to learn the world’s ways but happy to take it slow, at his own pace. This medium-sized pup—around 32 pounds of mostly lean muscle—is as friendly as he is well-mannered, with a playful streak that hints at the smart, loyal adult he’s becoming. His big ears and thoughtful eyes give him an almost cartoonish appeal, but don’t let that fool you: Harlow is serious about being a devoted sidekick. Whether it’s a quiet evening or an adventure in the park, he’s ready to soak in the moment with you. Harlow’s compatibility with other dogs is a definite plus, making a home with canine company an ideal fit. His reactions to cats or children haven’t been tested yet, so introducing him to new household members with patience and care will help him thrive. He’s curious and playful but still learning the rules of engagement, so a family willing to continue his social education will be a perfect match. Training is underway with this bright boy, and he’s responding well to gentle guidance. His intelligence shines through in his quick grasp of new things, and his loyal streak means he’s eager to please. What he needs most is a patient, understanding home where he can keep growing into his best self—someone who sees promise in his quiet moments and playfulness alike. If you’re looking for a dog who will grow alongside you, adding a thoughtful, loyal companion to your life, Harlow might just be your guy. To learn more or start the adoption process, visit workingdogsnw.org and see how this clever, sweet boy can fit into your world. Every adoption opens the door for another dog in need, and Harlow is ready to walk through that door with you.

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
There’s something about Hazel’s sweet face that stops you in your tracks—like she’s quietly saying, “Hey, I’m your new best friend, if you’ll have me.” But don’t let that gentle look fool you; beneath that calm, confident exterior is a dog who’s ready to dive into life’s little adventures with a wagging tail and a sparkle in her eye. Hazel’s the kind of dog who balances playfulness with a mellow vibe that makes coming home feel like the best part of your day. She’s affectionate and cuddly, the kind of companion who will happily curl up beside you after a good romp in the yard or a brisk walk around the neighborhood. And yes, she’s got that classic German Shepherd intelligence—quick to learn, curious about the world, and always eager to figure out what’s next. Treats are her secret motivation, so if you’re looking for a partner in training, Hazel is all in. Life with Hazel means knowing what to expect from a dog who’s confident without being pushy, social without being overwhelming, and playful without draining your energy reserves. She’s got a moderate energy level, perfect for an active family who loves getting outside but also appreciates downtime. Leash walks? She’s got those down and can even handle car rides without a fuss—ideal for weekend getaways or quick errands. Her crate is her little sanctuary, and she’s fully potty trained, which means she fits easily into a routine whether you’re working from home or heading out for a few hours. While she can handle being alone for limited stretches, she’s happiest when she’s part of the daily rhythm, sharing space with the people and pets she loves. Speaking of which, Hazel gets along well with other dogs, cats, and kids—making her a versatile addition to a household that already has a furry or human crew. If you picture your life filled with gentle play, cozy evenings, and the kind of loyal companionship that feels like a warm hug, Hazel might just be the dog to make that vision real. She’s not about high drama or nonstop energy; she’s about steady love, smart curiosity, and the quiet confidence that comes from knowing she’s exactly where she belongs. Northwest Working Breed Rescue is foster-based, so every adoption opens a space for another deserving dog to find their people. If Hazel’s blend of sweetness, smarts, and steady companionship sounds like your kind of dog, learn more at workingdogsnw.org She’s ready to meet you, and she might just be the friend you didn’t know you were waiting for.
