We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay online until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! We will do our best to notify you by email if the pet(s) you are interested in are no longer available. The entire household, including current dogs, must be present for the appointment. (Note: Please do not bring your dogs if you are meeting cats!). The introductions will take place outside in our parking lot (or in our cat room if you're meeting cats).-We will perform vet checks for current and prior pets in the household.-Finalizing the adoption will also be scheduled by appointment.Thank you for your understanding.

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Ziti is a sweet 15-month-old Shepherd mix who loves belly rubs and being close to her people. She is loyal, affectionate, protective of her family, and well trained. She is potty trained, crate trained, spayed, and up to date on all vaccines. She would love an active home where she can go on walks and have a yard to play in. She is good with kids and dogs her size or larger. She has not been around babies. Ziti would do best in a home without small dogs or cats, as she can play too rough with smaller animals. She has recently gone through training (Bark Busters) and has done a great job with what she's learning. She stays by my side while going on a walk, although does want to chase the squirrels she sees. She sits and waits (until you say "Go") before entering or leaving the house. We had 1.5 hours left of training, so her trainer said she would be happy to give that 1.5 hours to the new family. Story
Truman A18558651 lb. neutered male, approx 2 years old-This guy is a little nervous and takes a while to warm up to new people-He wouldn’t take treats from me in the beginning but towards the end was sitting patiently and taking them gently-Once comfortable he rolled over and relaxed for pets and belly rubs-At the very end he was pouncing towards me just a little and then started to engage in toy play-He is strong on leash and thinks he is a sled dog. A harness is recommended.-Seems non reactive to dogs nearby and may do well living with a fur sibling after slow and proper intros Unknown behavior with dogs/cats/kids •Meet all of our adoptable pets on our website friendsofdacc.org/adopt •Please keep in mind that the shelter can be a very stressful environment. •Studies show that a minimum of 3 days decompression drastically lower stress hormones and allow the dog to show more personality after they have settled in. •There is a suggested donation of $100 for our dogs, payable by cash, check or through paypal at the time of the adoption. •To meet them please go to front door and a DACC staff member will assist you with adoption or fostering. **And when coming to meet one of our dogs, please bring all the humans with you, but leave any current dogs at home. Staff will go over how to slowly and properly introduce them after a decompression period.** •The shelter is open 7 days a week from 10:30-5:30 **1431 E Ferry St. Detroit

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Juno is a handsome 7-year-old Husky looking for an experienced, active home that understands and appreciates this incredible breed. Like many Huskies, Juno is intelligent, energetic, and happiest when he has a job to do or an adventure to enjoy.Juno loves going for walks and is a pleasure on a leash. He enjoys getting out and exploring, and he would thrive with a family that enjoys hiking, walking, or spending time outdoors. He also plays well with other large dogs and would enjoy having a canine companion of similar size and energy level.Because of his strong prey drive, Juno cannot live in a home with cats or chickens. He will need a secure environment when outside. Juno must either be kept on a tether or have access to a securely fenced yard with a minimum 6-foot wooden privacy fence. Huskies are known for their ability to escape and roam, so proper containment is essential.Juno is not a couch potato. He loves being outdoors and needs regular physical exercise and mental stimulation to stay happy and healthy. Puzzle toys, training activities, walks, hikes, and other enrichment opportunities will help keep this smart boy engaged.Juno is searching for a home with people who are familiar with the Husky breed and understand their unique needs. Huskies are wonderful companions, but they are not the right fit for everyone. The ideal adopter will be committed to providing the structure, activity, and supervision Juno needs to thrive. If you`re looking for a loyal, active companion to share your adventures and understand what it means to own a Husky, Juno may be the perfect match for you!If you are interested in adopting me or another homeless pet at Macomb County Animal Control, walk-in adoption hours are Monday-Friday from 10am-4pm.My adoption fee is $50
