Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. If interested in any of our animals for adoption, or to foster an animal, please fill out the respective application here to get the process started. Visit our FAQ webpage for commonly asked questions about our adoption/foster process. Baron is a majestic Husky/Malamute mix, now 4 years old and neutered, looking for a very specific, experienced home that understands northern breeds and their unique needs. He is intelligent, loyal, and deeply bonded to his people. He thrives with structure, routine, and calm, confident leadership, and does best in a predictable environment with clear boundaries. An ideal home would be with someone who is home the majority of the time and has prior experience with Husky, Malamute, or similar working breeds. This is not a first-time dog. A strong understanding of canine behavior and ongoing training is essential. He would do best with a female dog or a very passive, neutral dog, with proper introductions and continued structure. He is not a fit for homes with cats, small dogs, or children under 15. Baron has a managed thyroid condition, and his veterinary care plays an important role in supporting both his medical needs and behavioral quirks. For his best interest, care should continue with his current veterinarian located in Waterford, as consistency has been critical to his progress and ongoing success. Coat care requires more than typical grooming maintenance. His wooly husky–type coat is prone to matting and requires frequent, gentle brushing. Because he does not enjoy long grooming sessions, care is best managed through short, positive brushing sessions incorporated into a regular routine, with guidance and support from his veterinary team. Due to crate anxiety, traditional kennel use is not appropriate. His future home must be comfortable managing space safely without crating and understand alternative confinement and decompression strategies. While affectionate and loving, he does have some quirks typical of northern breeds, including resource guarding with high-value food or treats. An experienced home that understands management, boundaries, and continued behavioral support is required. Baron is not an easy dog, but he is a deeply rewarding one. For the right, committed adopter, he offers a loyal, meaningful bond built on trust and partnership. If you feel you may be a good match and are interested in adopting Baron, please complete an application.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the animals shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. If the animal is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Animals MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our animals back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted animal. Please understand the statements about this animal are based upon the foster home's evaluation of the animal. The animal might behave differently (negatively or positively) in your home. While the animal might be good with the current foster’s dogs, cats, children, etc., it may not be with your animal(s) or children. The animal may be housebroken or litter trained in the home of the foster but may relapse in your home. The animal is represented to the public as it performs in the foster home and any statements made regarding the animal are conditional to that foster home setting. Please understand that statements made regarding this animal are simply overviews and are not guaranteed. The Petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our animals. Visual breed identification in animals is unreliable so for most of the animals we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each animal as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our animals based on personality, not by breed label. Thank you for looking through our list of animals needing forever homes and choosing rescue first. We appreciate you stopping by. January 14, 2026, 1:53 pm
