Story
Hi, I'm Comet! I'm a really good one year old boy. The vet thinks I'm part Shepherd, Lab, and Retriever. My floppy ears and short, spotted white and beige fur make me stand out. I'm a big dog, about 100 lbs, so there's a lot of me to love. I love daily walks (which I am good at), running, and my green ball. I live with 4 cats. My best friend is a kitten and the other 3 avoid me. I also live with 3 kids ages 2-12 and I am very gentle with them. I'm not a fan of strangers but once I know they're safe, I'm excited to make a new friend. I love ice, camping, beaches, lakes and hikes. I'm rarely home alone, but if I am, I do fine. I'm tolerant of baths with peanut butter distractions. I can be reactive to other reactive dogs, so I need to be on the leash whenever outside. I eat lamb with minimal ingredients. I have had some training and my trainer said I am a quick learner and I can even learn how to not be reactive. I'm also house trained and chose one spot in the yard outside.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Cuddly PalRodrick is a 45lb Lab/Weimaraner mix. Rodrick is such a sweet pal of a dog! He loves playing with his 4-legged sister, watching sports while snuggling on the couch, taking walks in the neighborhood and local parks, long car rides, and hanging out while his foster dad works on his computer.   He has learned that "Sit" is a great default position and he is working on learning his name for recall as well as "Place" and "Down". Rodrick is an enthusiastic learner and shines as he strives to please his human friends!   We do not know why Rodrick landed in the shelter, but he is still learning to be trusting of the world and of strangers. Moments of chaos or surprising appearances of unknown people are very stressful for Rodrick. While on leash he is also unsure about other dogs, bicycles, skateboards or runners. He is working with his foster dad and a trainer to work on his reactivity and learn to trust new people and has made good progress in the past month.   Rodrick is seeking a home where there is some predictability and a calm environment. He connects deeply with a few people, and needs slow introductions to new people. SVPP is working with a trainer and helping Rodrick to learn that he can be safe when the unexpected happens. Continuing training support will be provided to his adopter. Prior to adoption, all dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm, vaccinated (including rabies, if age appropriate) and microchipped.   Adoption fees for dogs: http://www.svpetproject.org/info/adoption Stay up-to-date on what our dogs are up to by following us on Facebook!  https://www.facebook.com/svpetprojectVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.September 8, 2024, 2:44 pm

Story
07/24/24 23:46Dog Day Out notes from last week:Today I: Went for a long hike along Coyote Creek Trail and in Shady Oaks Park, where I saw many runners, bikes and dogs. Was a bit nervous at first, frequently looking all around me, but quickly warmed up to the walk and got comfortable. I got lots of pets and treats along the way, which helped. Afterward, I went for a pup cup at Starbucks before going back to the shelter.Three Words to Describe Me are: Friendly, energetic, cautiousNotes from My Walker: Nelly is a little cautious at first, did not want to get in the car for a bit but did let me pick him up and put him in after a bit. He quickly got comfortable and we had no issues. It was a bit of the same at the start of our walk, with him frequently turning around to gauge his surroundings but then happily continuing the walk. He stopped his ‘scanning’ after 15-20 mins and frequently ‘checked in’. Overall I thought he did really well and was easy to walk. Was interested in other dogs but wouldn’t pull too hard to get to them. Enjoyed meeting him and would happily walk again!
