Story
Kingsley is a very sweet and energetic 5 month old puppy that loves to cuddly. He's very curious and loves to explore and is a good walker on the leash. He knows how to ring the bell for his potty needs. We have very demanding jobs and have other dogs in our household and cannot give him the attention we feel he needs. He will come with a large crate and some food and toys.

Story
Meet Pollo, The American Muscle Muppet (Extra-strong edition)! This muppet is best enjoyed with a harness and a sense of humor Pollo is a large, strong (~75 lb) and energetic boy who needs an experienced, confident handler. He’s eager to get out and explore but pulls hard on leash, so a harness is required—once harnessed, he does better on calm, sniffy walks in low-traffic areas. In the kennel, Pollo can be noisy and over-stimulated when there’s lots of activity, but he settles when things are quieter. He may alarm bark at the front of his kennel yet happily comes out once he sees the leash. With people, he’s more independent than cuddly—he tolerates handling well and was cooperative for veterinary care, though he can be sensitive during harnessing with some individuals.Pollo is very interested in other dogs and can become over-aroused (jumping, fence running, barking), but he is not aggressive. Due to his rowdy play-style, `hormonal` tendancies, he’s currently not in playgroup and may do best as an only dog or with another dog who can give appropriate corrections. Pollo isn’t big on toys or treats, but he knows “sit,” is easy to return to his kennel, and has lots of personality. With structure, patience, and the right setup, Pollo could thrive as a loyal companion for someone who can match his strength and energy.

Story
01/16/26Shiloh is an intelligent and alert dog who is highly engaged with his environment and very affiliative with humans. He is tolerant and affectionate with handlers and enjoys interaction once out of the kennel. Shiloh is highly motivated by other dogs and can become fixated or reactive, especially in shelter settings or when passing adjacent dogs, but he is able to calm with structure, distance, and gradual exposure. He would thrive in an experienced home as the only dog, where he can receive consistent guidance, mental stimulation, and positive outlets for his energy.01/12/26 12:33Volunteer notes: ` Shiloh is a dog who appreciates receiving affection from his handler. When in the play yards with a volunteer he is happy to chase after balls and toys (returning item is an opportunity). He knows sit and stay. He has lived with a smaller dog.` 01/04/26What did we do on today’s adventure:Today was such a fun day! I went on another big adventure! We went to the park, and I even got to walk in the rain. Then I saw a RAINBOW—so beautiful! I sniffed everything and left some very important messages along the way.I still felt a little unsure when people ran past me sometimes, but my friend told me everyone was friendly. We kept a bit of distance, and I did a really good job staying calm. When I saw other doggy friends, I chose to keep some space so I could enjoy my walk peacefully. I got lots of praise from my friend, and that made me so happy! What should potential adopters know about me:Shiloh is a 5-year-old handsome boy with a big heart and a strong bond to his people. Outside the shelter environment, Shiloh shows his best self: he enjoys calm walks, loves attention and settles nicely when given structure and clear guidance. He is a strong dog with generally good leash manners, though he can pull with enthusiasm when something really catches his interest—something that improves greatly with structure and treats. Shiloh can be reactive to other dogs and may become overly excitedby fast-moving people, especially if surprised from behind. With space, awareness, and structure on walks, this is very manageable. These behaviors do not define who he is at home or with his trusted people. When given support and predictability, he does very well and prefers a quieter, more structured lifestyle. What truly makes Shiloh stand out is how deeply he connects with his person. He is highly treat-motivated, smart, and eager to lis

Story
11/30/25 07:37Meet Toast, a labrador mix who`s always eager to greet new friends with a wagging tail and bright eyes. He’s incredibly friendly with people and loves nothing more than being part of the action. This handsome boy is full of life and would thrive in an active home where he can stretch his legs, explore the outdoors, and burn off his big Labrador energy. Whether it’s a hike, a jog, or an enthusiastic game of fetch, Toast is all in! His treat motivation makes him a wonderful training partner—he’s smart, eager to please, and ready to learn all the good-dog skills you’d like to teach him.At the shelter, Toast has shown himself to be social with other dogs, enjoying playtime and friendly interactions. He gets very excited during active moments, but one of his most endearing qualities is how he settles into calm companionship once he gets his energy out! Give him a soft spot to curl up and a human nearby, and he’s content!Toast has shown some prey drive toward cats, so he’ll need a home committed to managing that behavior—ideally one without feline friends or with a family experienced in safe, structured introductions and training. If you’re looking for a loyal, joyful, and affectionate companion who’s as ready for adventure as he is for quiet snuggles, Toast might just be your perfect match. He’s waiting patiently to love—and be loved—by his new family.

Story
12/03/25What did we do on today’s adventure:Dottie was shy but very sweet when her adventure buddy picked her up. On the way to Hellyer County Park, she was calm and rode beautifully in the car, lying down in the back seat and patiently awaiting her morning adventure. Once they arrived, Dottie immediately began to explore, curious about all the different sounds around her. What really caught her attention were the squirrels! She walks beautifully on a leash, but when she spotted a squirrel, her buddy had to hold on a little tighter—she was captivated! Although Dottie enjoyed the occasional treat during her adventure. She preferred to keep exploring and listening to all the amazing sounds. She wasn’t fazed by bike riders (even electric ones),fishermen, joggers, or walkers along the way. When she saw other dogs, she was excited in a friendly way but maintained a cool, calm demeanor the entire morning. Dottie completed a 4-mile walk all around Hellyer Park. Afterward, she was super cuddly and wanted all the love and pets from her buddy—an absolute sweetheart! On the way back, she was treated to a well-deserved pup cup from Starbucks. Dottie did excellent on her first Tails & Trails adventure! What potential adopters should know:Dottie is the perfect mix of sweet and adventurous. She loves cuddles and attention, making her an affectionate companion. Curious and inquisitive, Dottie enjoys exploring new environments and listening to all the fascinating sounds around her. She’s calm and well-mannered—rides beautifully in the car andwalks nicely on a leash. Dottie is also friendly with others, handling encounters with joggers, bikers, and other dogs like a pro while staying cool and composed. If you’re looking for a loving, active pup who’s ready for adventures and snuggles, Dottie is your girl.Three words to describe me:Curious, Calm and Sweet

Story
12/30/25 16:14Needs rescue due to being severely shut down in the shelter. Dog came in with A1400542. They were abandoned in a room together. Sweet dogs, will allow lots of petting and handling, but very reluctant to leave their kennel. Dogs are kenneled together and need a quiet and calm environment. May be separated, but they are very bonded.

Story
Millie is a rescue we got for my father in law after his wife passed. She is a super sweet Great Dane/ black lab mix who has been house trained and an inside dog for four years. She is very affectionate and playful and loves to either lay on the couch with you or play fetch in the backyard. She does okay with dogs and kids as long as they don’t hurt her. She has never bit anyone or other dogs. We were told that she was born with a neurological disorder and has a small divot on top of her head, but the only thing out of place about her is that she hardly ever turns left. I’m dead serious, she goes out of her way to just turn right, even if she has to do a circle which we find very cute. She’s an amazing dog and the only we can’t keep her is because my father in law was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and can no longer take care of her.

Story
Meet Ace! Ace is a 10-year-old Labrador Retriever mix with a heart full of love. He has a gentle temperament and is wonderful with children, making him a perfect family dog. Ace is the kind of companion who’s always happy to see you—his tail wags nonstop when you walk through the door. He loves to cuddle and soak up affection, and he’ll gladly curl up beside you after a long day. We’ve had Ace as part of our family for many years, and he’s been a loyal, loving presence throughout. With two young kids and allergies in the household, we aren’t able to give Ace and Maya the attention they deserve. We’re hoping to find a caring home for Ace—either on his own or together with Maya. Ace is a sweet, affectionate dog who thrives on companionship and love. He’ll bring joy, comfort, and plenty of cuddles to his new family.

Story
Aspen is listed as a 3-year-old female Labrador Retriever Mix, she was brought in by a field officer after her owner was arrested. She was never reclaimed and was saved from the euthanasia list in Modesto, ca. She was brought in with 2 cats so she is possibly cat friendly. Aspen presents with toe touching lameness LTL; thickening of the elbow with decreased range of motion and muscle atrophy. X-rays show luxation of the left elbow joint, chronic degenerative changes. So basically, she walks with a limp but doesn’t let it slow her down! Someone forgot to tell Aspen that she has these injuries! Aspen is happy, energetic, runs zoomies around the yard, very people social and dog friendly after slow introductions. She is a sweet girl, who loves being with her people. Aspen would love the chance at a new beginning, maybe this time one that will be able to shower her with love and affection. I don’t know if Aspen will have any medical needs, it is likely that as she ages arthritis will be in her future but as of now – she fly’s like she’s free of pain. ##2483098##

Story
Scout (cream) is a sweet, gentle 5-year-old golden who can be a bit shy in new environments, but once she feels comfortable with her trusted person nearby, she relaxes and is calm, affectionate, and happy. Stella (brown) is Scout’s 4-year-old bonded best friend. She’s playful, outgoing, and full of joyful energy. Her confident, happy nature is a great balance to Scout and helps her feel more secure. Because these two are so closely bonded and rely on each other, our goal is to find a home that can welcome them together.
