Story
We rescued Astro from the Milpitas humane society some time last year when he was just a puppy. Astro is a roller coaster of fun and learning experiences. He is a very good boy indoors with all kinds of tricks up his sleeve wether its setting up between your legs ready to walk with you through the busy streets or keeping eye contact till he gets his treat! If you want a lil challenge in your life come say hi! Unfortunately we don’t have enough time on our hands to spend with Astro due to something that’s been taking most of our time and we’ve noticed it’s been affecting Astro slowly but surely. We want him to have the freedom and the attention any dog deserves like long walks outside so he can get used to the world , he can be a little rowdy when we are on walks such as when he notices something in the distance and he’s adamant on figuring out what it is or when he sees another dog . Astro is coachable and he is friendly after the first interaction!

Story
Meet Pollo, The American Muscle Muppet (Extra-strong edition)! This muppet is best enjoyed with a harness and a sense of humor Pollo is a large, strong (~75 lb) and energetic boy who needs an experienced, confident handler. He’s eager to get out and explore but pulls hard on leash, so a harness is required—once harnessed, he does better on calm, sniffy walks in low-traffic areas. In the kennel, Pollo can be noisy and over-stimulated when there’s lots of activity, but he settles when things are quieter. He may alarm bark at the front of his kennel yet happily comes out once he sees the leash. With people, he’s more independent than cuddly—he tolerates handling well and was cooperative for veterinary care, though he can be sensitive during harnessing with some individuals.Pollo is very interested in other dogs and can become over-aroused (jumping, fence running, barking), but he is not aggressive. Due to his rowdy play-style, `hormonal` tendancies, he’s currently not in playgroup and may do best as an only dog or with another dog who can give appropriate corrections. Pollo isn’t big on toys or treats, but he knows “sit,” is easy to return to his kennel, and has lots of personality. With structure, patience, and the right setup, Pollo could thrive as a loyal companion for someone who can match his strength and energy.

Story
01/16/26Shiloh is an intelligent and alert dog who is highly engaged with his environment and very affiliative with humans. He is tolerant and affectionate with handlers and enjoys interaction once out of the kennel. Shiloh is highly motivated by other dogs and can become fixated or reactive, especially in shelter settings or when passing adjacent dogs, but he is able to calm with structure, distance, and gradual exposure. He would thrive in an experienced home as the only dog, where he can receive consistent guidance, mental stimulation, and positive outlets for his energy.01/12/26 12:33Volunteer notes: ` Shiloh is a dog who appreciates receiving affection from his handler. When in the play yards with a volunteer he is happy to chase after balls and toys (returning item is an opportunity). He knows sit and stay. He has lived with a smaller dog.` 01/04/26What did we do on today’s adventure:Today was such a fun day! I went on another big adventure! We went to the park, and I even got to walk in the rain. Then I saw a RAINBOW—so beautiful! I sniffed everything and left some very important messages along the way.I still felt a little unsure when people ran past me sometimes, but my friend told me everyone was friendly. We kept a bit of distance, and I did a really good job staying calm. When I saw other doggy friends, I chose to keep some space so I could enjoy my walk peacefully. I got lots of praise from my friend, and that made me so happy! What should potential adopters know about me:Shiloh is a 5-year-old handsome boy with a big heart and a strong bond to his people. Outside the shelter environment, Shiloh shows his best self: he enjoys calm walks, loves attention and settles nicely when given structure and clear guidance. He is a strong dog with generally good leash manners, though he can pull with enthusiasm when something really catches his interest—something that improves greatly with structure and treats. Shiloh can be reactive to other dogs and may become overly excitedby fast-moving people, especially if surprised from behind. With space, awareness, and structure on walks, this is very manageable. These behaviors do not define who he is at home or with his trusted people. When given support and predictability, he does very well and prefers a quieter, more structured lifestyle. What truly makes Shiloh stand out is how deeply he connects with his person. He is highly treat-motivated, smart, and eager to lis

Story
14/02/26 10:20 MHToast can become quite excited during play and may get jumpy or a little mouthy when overstimulated, but with clear boundaries and positive reinforcement, he settles nicely and shows great focus—he even walks beautifully at your side and checks in frequently. Once the excitement winds down, he’s happy to relax and enjoy calm companionship.Toast does have a luxating patella (a knee condition), so he will need a home committed to keeping his activity low-impact.While he enjoys chasing a ball, too much running or vigorous activity can cause him to favor his leg afterward. For that reason, he should avoid rough play and high-intensity exercise, and he is not a candidate for playgroups at this time. He’s perfectly content chewing on a tennis ball, enjoying controlled fetch, and participating in enrichment activities that engage his mind without putting strain on his knee.11/30/25 07:37Meet Toast, a labrador mix who`s always eager to greet new friends with a wagging tail and bright eyes. He’s incredibly friendly with people and loves nothing more than being part of the action. This handsome boy is full of life and would thrive in an active home where he can stretch his legs, explore the outdoors, and burn off his big Labrador energy (safely, of course). Regular, low impact exercise and mental stimulation are best - think leisurely hikes, walks in different places and puzzle toys - His treat motivation makes him a wonderful training partner.he’s smart, eager to please, and ready to learn all the good-dog skills you’d like to teach him!At the shelter, Toast has shown himself to be social with other dogs, enjoying playtime and friendly interactions. He gets very excited during active moments, but one of his most endearing qualities is how he settles into calm companionship once he gets his energy out! Give him a soft spot to curl up and a human nearby, and he’s content!Toast has shown some prey drive toward cats, so he’ll need a home committed to managing that behavior—ideally one without feline friends or with a family experienced in safe, structured introductions and training. If you’re looking for a loyal, joyful, and affectionate companion who’s as ready for adventure as he is for quiet snuggles, Toast might just be your perfect match. He’s waiting patiently to love—and be loved—by his new family.

Story
01/28/26 14:59Dottie is a 5-year-old spayed female Pit Bull–type dog who is sweet, calm, and affectionate. She enjoys cuddles, walks nicely on leash, rides well in the car, and loves exploring on sniffy adventures. She completed a 4-mile Tails & Trails walk with ease and remained friendly and composed around people, bikes, joggers, and other dogs in public settings. Dottie has four chronically broken canine teeth that may require future dental care. She also had three mammary nodules removed at the time of her spay; histopathology was not performed, so future monitoring is recommended.Dottie is easy to leash, very people-affectionate, and enjoys belly rubs. She does display dog reactivity in some settings, and management strategies (including kennel divider adjustments) are recommended. Dottie would do best with a committed adopter who can provide ongoing veterinary care and continue positive behavior management in a loving home.02/11/26What did we do on today’s adventure:When Dottie and her buddy arrived at Almaden Lake, she immediately went into safari mode, taking in all the smells and sounds around her. She was especially excited about the little creatures rustling in the bushes and moving through the lake and along the trail. She took a few breaks to roll in the grass and enjoythe beautiful warm day. Halfway through their morning adventure, they were joined by Domino, another pup from the San Jose Animal Care Center who was also out for his morning outing. They decided the more the merrier, so they teamed up for a nice pack walk. Dottie remained calm and mostly ignored Domino, who is much younger and more energetic. By the end of the walk, though, they had settled into a comfortable rhythm side by side. They even took water breaks together—taking turns drinking from the same bowl (at different times)—and both sat nicely for treats. They also spent time relaxingin the grass while their buddies focused on giving them plenty of love and pets. Overall, Dottie walked 3½ miles and wasn’t reactive toward other dogs, bikes, joggers, walkers, strollers, or even an electric wheelchair that passed her on the trail. What potential adopters should know:Dottie is a spunky, 5-year-old lady weighing about 49 lbs. She’s a calm and easy passenger in the car, usually settling right in and relaxing in the back seat. She isn’t especially treat-motivated, though she does enjoy the occasional snack—string cheese is her clear favori

Scout (cream) is a sweet, gentle 5-year-old golden who can be a bit shy in new environments, but once she feels comfortable with her trusted person nearby, she relaxes and is calm, affectionate, and happy. Stella (brown) is Scout’s 4-year-old bonded best friend. She’s playful, outgoing, and full of joyful energy. Her confident, happy nature is a great balance to Scout and helps her feel more secure. Because these two are so closely bonded and rely on each other, our goal is to find a home that can welcome them together.

Story
Bumi’s birthday is February 13, 2024. Unfortunately, we need to rehome him due to us relocating and dogs are not allowed. He is very mouthy, but not aggressive. He is the cuddliest boy I’ve ever met. He loves hugs, he loves to be by your side at all times, and he loves water. We hope he will find a home that has a big backyard for him to run in, and a family that will love him for his personality. He is potty trained and crate trained. He does pull on the leash, and is a little aggressive with food, but we always separate our dogs when feeding. Overall, he is a very good boy who deserves the world.
