Story
Aspen is listed as a 3-year-old female Labrador Retriever Mix, she was brought in by a field officer after her owner was arrested. She was never reclaimed and was saved from the euthanasia list in Modesto, ca. She was brought in with 2 cats so she is possibly cat friendly. Aspen presents with toe touching lameness LTL; thickening of the elbow with decreased range of motion and muscle atrophy. X-rays show luxation of the left elbow joint, chronic degenerative changes. So basically, she walks with a limp but doesn’t let it slow her down! Someone forgot to tell Aspen that she has these injuries! Aspen is happy, energetic, runs zoomies around the yard, very people social and dog friendly after slow introductions. She is a sweet girl, who loves being with her people. Aspen would love the chance at a new beginning, maybe this time one that will be able to shower her with love and affection. I don’t know if Aspen will have any medical needs, it is likely that as she ages arthritis will be in her future but as of now – she fly’s like she’s free of pain. ##2483098##

Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption fee: $800 Meet the Retro Puppies: Fax & Typewriter   The Retro puppies are a litter of eight Doodle-type pups with an old-school name set and a brand-new start on life. They were found dumped on the street and brought to a local shelter, which then reached out to DPS for help. Now safe in foster care and living in small groups, these throwback-named pups are thriving and showing off their unique personalities. They are about 3–4 months old, and based on their current size and structure, we expect them to grow into medium-to-large dogs as adults.   With their Doodle-type coats, the Retro puppies will likely shed less than many dogs, but they may not be the right fit for adopters with serious allergies. Like all mixed breeds, coat type and allergen levels can vary as they grow.   Their foster routine is helping them build confidence and good habits. Breakfast is served between 9:00 and 10:00 a.m., followed by a full day of classic puppy activities: playing hard, napping harder, and repeating. They go outside to potty every couple of hours or whenever they signal they need to go. On work-from-home days, lunch is around 2:00 p.m.; on office days, they get a snack before the foster leaves and another right after returning home. Dinner is around 7:30 p.m., and the household winds down around midnight. It’s a routine that gives these former street pups a sense of stability—and they’re soaking it up.   Fax   Fax may be the smallest of the bunch, but she’s proof that good things come in compact packages. From the moment she arrived home, she was ready to explore— immediately setting out to investigate the yard and even attempting to climb into the garden bed. She’s fearless and endlessly curious, sprinting around like a fluffy little cotton ball.   Despite her adventurous streak, Fax is incredibly gentle and affectionate. She never barks, loves to cuddle, and gives the sweetest kisses. Right now, she’s perfectly lap-sized and takes full advantage of it whenever she can. While she’ll grow into a bigger dog, her loving, people-oriented personality is already firmly established. Fax is the kind of puppy who balances fun and affection effortlessly.   Typewriter   Typewriter is the thoughtful correspondent of the group. When she first arrived, she took a moment to observe her surroundings, quietly lying in her crate and processing the change. It didn’t take long for her to warm up, and within a couple of days she transformed into a snuggly, affectionate puppy who enjoys being close to her people.   Typewriter is also very communicative and isn’t shy about reporting anything she finds unusual. She’ll bark to alert her foster to new or suspicious items— like an unfamiliar toy or a fallen trash can that suddenly resembles a spooky tunnel. One particularly memorable moment was when she spotted a cat perched on the backyard fence. Instead of barking at the cat, she ran straight to her foster and barked to make sure the situation was properly logged and acknowledged. She's a smart girl and she wants everyone to know it!   She has a striking, unique feature as well: a small section of her right iris is noticeably lighter than the rest of her eye. It’s subtle and hard to capture in photos, but in person it gives her an extra dash of character— perfect for a pup with such a distinctive personality.   Fax and Typewriter are charming, loving Retro pups ready to grow up in homes that will give them the time, patience, and guidance every puppy needs. With continued socialization, structure, and training, these former strays are well on their way to becoming wonderful medium-to-large companions— proof that sometimes the best things come back in style.January 12, 2026, 4:37 pm

These throwback pups were found dumped on the street and brought to a local shelter, which then reached out to DPS for help. Now safe in foster care and living in small groups, they’re thriving, rewinding the past with their names while fast-forwarding into bright futures. They are about 3–4 months old, and based on their current size and structure, they are expected to grow into medium-to-large dogs as adults. With their Doodle-type coats, they will likely shed less than many dogs, though they may not be the right fit for adopters with serious allergies, as coat type and allergen levels can vary as they grow.       These Retro Puppies have a daily routine that runs like a well-organized mixtape. They sleep together in a kennel with a soft bed where they lounge and a pee pad they mostly keep clean and dry. In the mornings, they wait quietly until around 7:00–7:30 a.m. to be let outside, showing off their growing potty skills by holding it until it’s time to go. Once outside, they have access to food throughout the day, though they usually hit play on playtime before stopping for a snack. Their days are a steady loop of eating, napping, and playing, with plenty of outdoor time. While they nap inside as well, they strongly prefer the backyard, where they can stretch out in the sun. When the day winds down, they come inside for one last potty break around 8:00 p.m. and then power down for the night, sleeping from about 9:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.       If there’s one thing these puppies prove, it’s that the classics never get old— especially when it comes to being outside. Even when it’s cold, they’d rather be hanging out in the yard, exploring, playing with toys, and lounging like sun-loving little throwbacks. CThey’re also incredibly friendly with new people and greet everyone like an old friend, ready to play and soak up attention.       Cassette is the ultimate comfort track. She’s the cuddliest of the trio, always eager to roll over for belly rubs and soak up affection. She’s adventurous, curious, and fun, making her the perfect blend of playful puppy and cozy companion.       Floppy Disk is the good ole hit single. She’s the most playful and absolutely obsessed with toys, especially squeaky ones. Tug-of-war is her game of choice, and she’s always ready to keep the fun spinning with another round. Once she's done with playtime, she's ready for cuddles!       Xerox is the smooth, low-tempo classic. She’s most likely to end up asleep in your lap, fully committed to lounging and being adored. She loves belly rubs and isn’t shy about letting you know she does not want you to stop!       Cassette, Floppy Disk, and Xerox are friendly, playful, and full of personality—proof that some of the best things come back around. These Retro Puppies are ready to leave their rough beginnings behind and record the next chapter of their lives with families who will appreciate their charm, energy, and timeless appeal.January 15, 2026, 5:13 pm

Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption fee: $800   Meet the Retro Pups:Pager, Boombox, and Walkman, three Doodle-type puppies with vintage names and thoroughly modern brains. Part of a litter of eight that was heartbreakingly dumped on the street, these pups were rescued, brought to the shelter, and then placed safely into foster care with DPS. Now about 3–4 months old, they are thriving in a structured foster home and showing just how resilient, intelligent, and joyful they are.   Based on their current size, we expect these pups to grow into medium-to-large dogs. They have Doodle-type coats and will likely shed less than many dogs, but they may not be suitable for people with serious allergies, as coat type and allergen levels can vary.   What truly sets the Retro Pups apart is their intelligence. These puppies have already learned commands like “sit” and “stay,” are highly food-motivated, and genuinely enjoy training sessions. They are not excessive barkers— just energetic, happy players who love to engage with their environment and their people. Puppies this smart will thrive in homes committed to ongoing training, enrichment, and socialization, ideally with a secure backyard where they can explore and burn off puppy energy.   They are currently pen-trained and learning that pottying happens outside. They are still too young for leash walks but are building an excellent foundation. Socially, they are learning proper “dog language” by playing together, practicing boundaries, and respecting cues. They have not yet been exposed to cats or children, and their interactions with the resident dog have been limited— but in one-on-one situations, they do well and politely disengage when he signals he’s had enough.   The “Retro” Routine   7:45–8:00 AM – Morning wake-up call: The day starts bright and early with a trip straight to the backyard, where they practice being “good boys” outdoors.   8:15 AM – Breakfast & morning play: After breakfast, it’s back outside. These pups love the garden and are excellent self-entertainers— wrestling, exploring the grass, and chasing each other with classic puppy enthusiasm.   Late morning – Power nap: After burning through that early energy, they crash in their pen for a well-earned nap. The afternoon follows a familiar puppy rhythm: eat, play, potty, nap… repeat.   6:00 PM – Dinner time: The highlight of the evening. Since they are highly food-motivated, they are always ready and waiting.   6:30 PM – Brain Games & human connection: This is their favorite part of the day. Focused training, interactive play, and plenty of cuddles. This is when they proudly show off their “sit” and “stay” skills.   10:00 PM – Lights out: After a full day of learning and playing, the pups settle into their pen and drift off to sleep, dreaming of their future families.   Pager – The Professional Snuggler   Pager is the ultimate people dog— always ready to curl up in a lap, but just as happy jumping into playtime with his siblings. He strikes a perfect balance between affection and fun. Pager is a striking all-white puppy with a heart to match, and true to his name, he’s incredibly responsive.   A star student, Pager has already mastered “sit” and “stay” and thrives on positive reinforcement. His food motivation and eagerness to please make him a dream for adopters excited to continue training. If you’re looking for a puppy who wants to be close to you while still enjoying puppy antics, Pager is your guy.   Boombox – The Life of the Party   Boombox lives up to his name with a big personality and boundless enthusiasm. He loves to play hard with his brothers and is learning how to wrestle politely while respecting puppy boundaries. Boombox is a social butterfly who brings energy and joy wherever he goes.   After a round of backyard zoomies, he’s perfectly content to “hit pause” and sink into a deep, satisfying puppy nap. He excels at group play, is learning his manners, and thrives in social settings. Boombox would be a fantastic match for a home that enjoys an outgoing, playful companion. He'd love to join another dog in the home so he can have a playmate!   Walkman – The Classic Cool   Walkman blends puppy energy with focus and thoughtfulness. While he keeps up with his siblings during playtime, he really shines during training sessions, where his ability to concentrate helps him learn quickly. He is making excellent progress with outdoor potty skills and adapts well to the structure of the exercise pen.   In the garden, Walkman is an independent explorer —but he always keeps tabs on his humans. Loyal, observant, and curious, he has the makings of a wonderful sidekick for future neighborhood strolls, backyard adventures, and everyday life.   Pager, Boombox, and Walkman are smart, social, and full of potential. With the right families— ones ready to invest time, training, and love— these Retro Pups are ready to grow into incredible lifelong companions.January 12, 2026, 4:37 pm
