We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay online until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! We will do our best to notify you by email if the pet(s) you are interested in are no longer available. New animals are posted daily, so please let us know if another furry friend peaks your interest (there is no need to fill out a second application)! Fill out the application (DOG:https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=44, CAT: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=41, EXOTICS: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=46) completely. Every question must be answered, and it must be signed.-Applicants must be 21+ years old and live within a 50-mile radius of our shelter at 22415 Groesbeck Hwy, Warren 48089.-You must identify at least 1 animal that you are interested in.Once your application is received, it will be assigned to one of our volunteer Adoption Counselors who will follow-up with the applicant who is the best fit within a few days, or to discuss other options. It could take up to a couple of weeks for you to receive a final disposition on your application so there is no need to check on the status.-Introductions will be scheduled by appointment only, 30 minutes per appointment. The entire household, including current dogs, must be present for the appointment. (Note: Please do not bring your dogs if you are meeting cats!). The introductions will take place outside in our parking lot (or in our cat room if you're meeting cats).-We will perform vet checks for current and prior pets in the household.-Finalizing the adoption will also be scheduled by appointment.Thank you for your understanding.

Story
Otis has just reached his 3rd birthday (April 9th 2022) and this whole experience is a hard one for me as his owner. I received him as a gift when he was 2 weeks old and we have had a pretty tight bond for the past 3 years now. He has traveled with me as I have moved for work and he has been a great companion throughout my work journey with my company. My struggle with him now is, I live in a condo and he really needs more space. Also, my work schedule and the growing dog that he is, challenges me to think that I must place him in someone's home who can give him the time and attention he needs to thrive and continue to develop well. He is pretty energetic and stronger now and placing him with a new owner that is looking to take care of a dog like him and allow that youthful energy to be released on a more regular basis would be great for him.

Story
Eden is sweet. I got her at 4 weeks old back in 2012, from the Humane Society when my kids left for college. She turns 13 this July. I'd love to see her with someone with a laid back lifestyle. Not too busy. She's getting older and a little easier to annoy so I wouldn't put her with children as she's rarely been around them. I've been on extremely hard times lately and it's been some time since she's had any vet care. She needs her nails and teeth done badly. It's been years since she's had shots, but I've always treated her holistically, and she is very seldom, if ever around other dogs, so I saw no need. Was attacked by coyotes so can be timid and defensive, but never vicious, never bitten anyone. Loves a quick run around the yard at top speed but not long now that she's older. Has bad doorbell etiquette but just wants rubs. Will run up on a strange dog so keep leashed. Very loyal, won't run away. Good heavy bark makes good guard dog. Scared of thunder and fireworks.
