Story
Hi… I’m Max.I’m a gentle-hearted guy who’s still learning that the world isn’t as scary as it sometimes feels. I’m the kind of dog who watches first, thinks second, and maybe comes over third—especially in new places. I try my best, but new faces, new rooms, and new routines take me a little time to understand. When I’m nervous, I might hesitate, step back, or hide for a moment… but if you speak softly and give me space, I start to melt. Once I know you’re safe, I’ll slowly lean in, sit by your side, and even nudge my head under your arm to ask for more affection. I may look unsure on the outside, but inside I’m hoping for someone kind and patient who sees the sweet dog trying his best.I’m still working on feeling confident out in the world—sometimes I pull or get a little panicked on walks—but I listen well and redirect easily. I’ve met calm dogs and gentle people and done just fine once I’ve had a moment to settle. I warm up to men too, I just need them to go slow and let me approach on my terms. What I want most is a quiet, understanding home where I can decompress, take things one step at a time, and bond at my own pace. Give me patience, reassurance, and a little time, and I’ll give you all the love I’ve been holding onto. I really do want to trust—I just need the right person to help me get there.

Story
Roxy is a soft-hearted, wiggly girl who wants connection more than anything, even when her nerves get in the way. In the shelter she shows just how much she loves people by leaning in for affection, climbing gently into laps for chest rubs, and offering full-body wiggles once she feels safe. She knows sit and down, enjoys being petted all over, and is happiest when she’s getting calm, reassuring attention from her person.New situations and greetings can feel overwhelming for Roxy at first. She can be unsure in busy or echoing spaces like hallways and may pause or need encouragement to move forward. When meeting new people she’s often excited but conflicted, sometimes jumping up, showing appeasement signals, or having a little nervous pee. Keeping greetings low key, ideally outside, and allowing her to approach at her own pace helps her settle quickly. Once she warms up, her affectionate and people-focused nature really shines.Roxy is more motivated by attention than food right now, though she does enjoy treats once she’s comfortable, especially freeze-dried beef liver. Toys and chew items aren’t a big priority for her yet. She walks on leash with some initial uncertainty but responds well to gentle redirection and human guidance, and she becomes more confident as she goes. With other dogs, Roxy is neutral and polite, showing more interest in the people nearby than in canine companions. She could live with a calm, respectful dog, though she doesn’t need one to be happy. Her behaviour with cats is unknown, but with slow, thoughtful introductions to a dog-savvy cat she may do well. She can live with kids who are sturdy and able to help keep greetings calm, as she is very wiggly and likes to jump when excited.Roxy will thrive in a predictable, supportive home that understands she’s a sensitive soul still building confidence. A quieter living setup with easy outdoor access is ideal, as she can be startled by people appearing suddenly in tight indoor spaces. With patience, gentle guidance, and confidence-building routines, this nervous-but-loving girl is ready to blossom into a deeply devoted companion
