We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay on Petfinder until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! We will do our best to notify you by email if the pet(s) you are interested in are no longer available. New animals are posted daily, so please let us know if another furry friend peak your interest (there is no need to fill out a second application)! Fill out the application (DOG: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=26, CAT: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=41, EXOTICS: https://us14b.sheltermanager.com/onlineform_view?formid=46) completely. It could take up to a couple of weeks for you to receive a final disposition on your application so there is no need to check on the status.-Introductions will be scheduled by appointment only, 30 minutes per appointment. The entire household, including current dogs, must be present for the appointment. (Note: Please do not bring your dogs if you are meeting cats!). The introductions will take place outside in our parking lot (or in our cat room if you're meeting cats).-We will continue to perform vet checks for current and prior pets in the household.-Finalizing the adoption will also be scheduled by appointment.Thank you for your understanding.

Story
Hello, my name is Punky and I came into the shelter as a stray. I was running with another dog that is my brother. I`m about 6 years old and weigh about 70lbs. I really love to play with toys and for being 6 years old I do have a lot of energy. I don`t do well in a kennel and with cats so I can`t go into a home with them. I play very well with other dogs in the yard. I also love to go for walks too.I don`t like it when people I don`t know approach me when I`m in my yard, therefore a home with a privacy fence would be required. I would be good to go into a home with a older family. I also know some basic commands like sit when I want a treat and will roll over for belly rubs. I do enjoy sleeping on a nice soft bed after a day of play. I can either go into home with an active family or a lower energy household. I would to love find my forever home.If you are interested in adopting me or another homeless pet at Macomb County Animal Control, walk-in adoption hours are Monday-Friday from 10am-4pm. To help speed up the application process, it is recommended that you complete the online application form found at the link below.https://animalcontrol.macombgov.org/AnimalControl-AdoptionApplicationMy adoption fee is SPONSORED!

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Meet Miracle,She may have had a rough start in life, but her story is about to take a turn for the better. Miracle was found as a stray and brought into our care, but unfortunately, her microchip did not have updated information and her previous owners did not come to look for her. She was then adopted but unfortunately her new family could no longer care for her and she came back to us.Miracle is a sweet girl with a lot of potential. She`s incredibly smart, loyal, and affectionate. She`s already mastered commands like sit and gives paw, showing her eagerness to please. However, it`s important to note that she can be a bit rough during playtime, so she would thrive in a home without smaller, older or less active dogs. This beautiful pup would greatly benefit from a fenced yard where she can safely burn off her energy and explore. An active family who enjoys outdoor activities would be the perfect match for her. While she enjoys the company of children, it is recommended that older kids be in the home due to her energetic nature. It`s worth mentioning that Miracle does not like to share her food, so a family experienced in managing resource guarding behaviors would be ideal. On the bright side, she already keeps her kennel clean, which suggests she may be housebroken. With a little patience and consistency, she could easily adapt to a new home.Miracle thrives on attention and loves being the center of her family`s world. However, she tends to get overly excited and may jump. Gentle reminders and positive reinforcement training will go a long way in helping her overcome this behavior. The shelter environment has proven to be quite stressful for Miracle. She longs for a warm and loving home where she can finally relax and feel truly secure. If you`re looking for a loyal and devoted companion who will always be by your side, Miracle is waiting to be that dog for you. Open your heart and give her the forever family she`s been yearning for!My adoption fee is SPONSORED!If you are interested in adopting me or another homeless pet at Macomb County Animal Control, walk-in adoption hours are Monday-Friday from 10am-4pm. Story
Kismet was adopted about 6 years ago. She was as spoiled as can be and is great with all animals. Our cat is meaner to her, but she just ignores it. Recently my wife and I both lost our jobs in the mortgage industry, and the ongoing cost of food is becoming difficult. Especially with us having a toddler and another baby on the way. Over the course of the last month or so, Kismet has been losing weight. We have been giving more food for a few weeks to try and regain some of that weight, however she continues to lose. We have checked her poop for worms, because that would be a quick and easy fix. However there are no worms present and we cannot afford to pay to have her examined. We have tried to surrender and absolutely nowhere is accepting intakes. We are at our final straw and need her to go, otherwise we will need to bring her into a vet just to schedule her to be put down because it will be the cheapest option. Please someone save her. She has done nothing but love people

Story
Delilah is a sweet, smart, outgoing lover! She is the biggest in her litter! We rescued 9 puppies from a family that allowed their unspayed pure bred yellow lab run loose. She was born on December 20th so she is now 10 weeks old and weighs about 15 lbs. She has had two sets of shots and worming. She is very social and would make a great addition to any family. She will be spayed and microchipped and ready for her new life. If you would like to make Delilah your new forever family member, please email doys4mylife@gmail.com or omlc7@hotmail.com and we will send info and app.
