Story
Brody had a rough start to life, I don't think he was given much time or handled kindly by his first owner - because of this he didn't know how great people can be, but he has worked very hard to build relationships and dog skills. He's immaculate in his kennel, no messes, loves enrichment - but will obliterate pillows, orthopedic beds and stuffies with exuberant glee 😬😬😬. So....I suggest we don't give him those. I'd say he's "mostly" good for walks - once you get in the flow, and he WORKS hard for that food. He loves people, loves to be petted, and will lay by your feet all day. Brody just wants to be by your side because he loves attention now that he trusts people and is a happy fellow. He will require a fenced yard, children over 13, no cats. If you want a loyal and lovable companion Brody is the perfect dog to meet! Fosters and adopters must live within an hour of metro Detroit. Birthdate 1-29-17

Story
This gentle giant was found on the streets of Detroit and is looking for a new home to call his own. Gino is a very good dog that is laid back but also loves going on walks. He currently lives with other dogs big and small at his foster home but also would be fine as an only dog. Gino has a fenced yard and is microchipped. Birthdate 12/30/15

Story
Hello, I'm Mia. I'm a bit shy, but once I get to know you, I'll be your loyal companion. I'm smart and energetic, always ready for a new adventure. But I also have a sweet, friendly side that loves cuddles. I sometimes get anxious when I'm alone, and I'm still learning my leash manners. But with a little patience and lots of love, I hope I can overcome these challenges. I need someone who can help me learn lots of things and how to socialize properly, so I can be the best dog I can be. Due to my barking and separation anxiety I cannot live in an apartment, I need a fully fenced back yard and I cannot go home with cats or small animals as I have a high prey drive. I don't mind dog friends and I do best with older children or teenagers because sometimes I have so much fun playing that I don't want to stop.Adopting me means gaining a friend who will love you unconditionally and brighten your every day.

Story
🏡FOREVER HOME NEEDED BY FEBRUARY 1st! “👋Hi! My name is Clue. My friends call me Blues Clues. Can you guess why? Because I’m a smart guy who loves to learn new tricks with positive reinforcement training, of course! 🧠 🩺I am a 3.5 year old, mixed breed, neutered male dog. I am up-to-date on all my vaccines, HW-, and microchipped! 🐶Now that that’s out of the way, I’d love to tell you a bit about myself. People love me for my soft, velvety fur, husky eyes, and fat head … but I’m more than my good looks and charm! 😉 I am a smart, goofy, and shy boy who’s looking for my forever human. Here are some things that I love: 🦴I LOVE to train! Almost as much as I love to lounge in sun ☀️ and go for strolls in the woods 🌲. I am so smart that I know my colors! Dogs can see yellow, green, and blue, and I’ll tell you which is which! 💛💙💚 I know so many fun tricks, I am house trained, I am comfortable when left alone, I do well in the car, and I even tolerate a bath 🛁 for some peanut butter. Have I said how much I love peanut butter? And spray cheese. And hot dogs. And lunch meat. I’m a big foodie. 🧀 Before I came to my foster home, I thought the world was a very scary place. Now I’m learning more and more that people and dogs are great! I’d love to make friends with both people and dogs, but it does take me some time. Once you’re in, you’re in! And I’ll be your bestest friend for life! I am worth meeting a couple of times to get to that place, I promise. My new owner will have the most amazing time watching me blossom and come out of my shell as my confidence builds. In no time, you’ll see my “goofy clue” - the loose body, playful, sweet, and funny dog those who love me know me to be. I’ll play with my toys, toss around my bone, and roll around in the grass in the sun. I’ll be worth your while, I promise! If I sound like a good match for you, have your people call my people … we can chat over cookies and bowl of water. *disclaimer: I snore like a fog horn. 😴 Upside down, and all in your business. Are you ready for some Clue cuddles?!” . . ADOPTION INQUIRIES: Please email my foster mama or send her a text to set up a meet and greet! matlockkj@gmail.com/248-535-8832 ✅Fully-vetted 📚Comes with free training sessions to keep me on the up-and-up! 💰Adoption fee is SPONSORED! That’s right - free of charge. You just supply the love.

We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Story
Hi!  Thank you for clicking on my photo to read about me. My birthday is October 31, 2023.  Isn't it cool that I was born on Halloween?  I'm sure glad I wasn't given a spooky name...I like being Pete.  The vet says I'm a lab/pit mix and that when I'm all grown up, I should weigh 40-50 pounds.  I have fur like a lab and even have cute, webbed toes.  When I was just a tiny puppy, I was attacked by a big dog and hurt very badly.  I had a tear in my trachea and my cheek bone was broken.  I spent time at the ER vet before being transferred to a specialist to have surgery.  My foster mommy took really good care of me and kept me calm while I healed.  Do you know how hard it is for a puppy to stay calm???  I had to stay in a crate and wasn't allowed to play with the other dogs.  It was torture!  Those days are over now, and I can play with my big brothers all day long.  Well, we play really hard and then nap for a few hours.  There are more photos of me sleeping than of me getting into puppy trouble. My big brothers are 100lb labs. They've helped me forget all about that big dog that wasn't nice to me. When I was little, I liked to use them for pillows, but I can't get away with that anymore.  There is a 4 year old who comes over every day and I love her!  We play and then we cuddle. I don't have much experience with stuffed toys because one of the big dogs just destroys them.  We have lots of chew bones, and I like to pick up sticks in the yard.  I'm a good boy outside and don't get into nearly as much trouble as I did when I was little. When I have to go potty, I ring some bells hanging from the door.  I sleep in bed with my foster mommy and I sleep through the night most nights.  If I do have to go out, I go out, take care of business, then come right back in to bed.  Mommy is retired and home most of the time, but sometimes I have to go in a crate when she isn't home.  I don't like it very much at all and like to voice my opinion about it.  I'm getting better about it, but it's something we're still working on. I would love a fenced yard so I can run around and burn off energy.  Another dog to play with would be a definite bonus.  I'm not sure a home with tiny kids is best because of all my energy and strength as I grow, but my foster mommy wants what is best for me and she will make sure any new home is the perfect fit for everyone.  Please contact her right away if you'd like to talk about me.  **All Shelter to Home animals are fully vetted per their age. We believe in pediatric spay and neuter. All animals will be spayed or neutered, tested for FIV/FeLV or heartworm, given age-appropriate boosters and rabies, dewormed, flea treated, and anything extra that is needed to give this animal a wonderful forever life in a permanent home. Adoption fees are usually $50 for cats and between $150-$250 for dogs, unless the pet is sponsored or we are running a promotion. Please visit our website at sheltertohome.com for information on our adoption process.**April 25, 2024, 12:46 am
