Story
Meet Agave – A Sweet Survivor with a Soul Made of Gold Thrown from a moving vehicle and left broken on the expressway, Agave’s story could have ended in heartbreak. But this extraordinary girl chose to keep going. With a fractured pelvis, a fractured front leg, and unimaginable pain, she still looked to humans with hope. And today? She’s walking again. She’s healing. She’s beginning to trust that love won’t always hurt. Agave is as sweet as her name suggests—gentle, affectionate, and endlessly resilient. She’s the kind of dog who leans in for comfort, whose eyes speak volumes, and whose quiet strength will move you to tears. There’s something about her presence that makes you pause, breathe deeper, and feel lucky just to be near her. She’s made incredible progress through physical therapy and is blossoming into a playful, loving companion. She loves her walks and trots proudly at your side, soaking up every scent and every moment. She’ll gently chase after a ball and light up when she catches it—never too rowdy, always just happy to be included. Car rides are her jam. She gazes out the window, ears in the wind, as if she’s remembering how far she’s come. Agave gets along beautifully with most other dogs and has a soft spot for calm, structured homes. She’s mostly housebroken and does her best to communicate when she needs to go out. She knows basic commands, offers a paw when asked, and wants nothing more than to make her people proud. After everything she’s endured, Agave deserves a peaceful, predictable place to continue healing—ideally with women or older children who will give her the space and patience to feel safe. Loud, fast movements still worry her, especially from men, but she’s learning that love can be quiet, steady, and safe. Agave has survived the unthinkable, and yet she remains sweet, soft, and so full of love. Her story didn’t end on that expressway. It’s just beginning—and you could be the one to help her write the next chapter. Let Agave show you what it means to be brave. Let her remind you that sweetness can survive anything. Apply to foster or adopt and give this beautiful soul the home she’s always deserved. Adoption is $275, which includes spay/neuter at our vet, vaccines, dewormer, microchip, and clean bill of health. Although we work to potty train all of our dogs, we cannot guarantee full house training before adoption. Regression is a normal part of transitioning to a new home. We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay online until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! We will do our best to notify you by email if the pet(s) you are interested in are no longer available. New animals are posted daily, so please let us know if another furry friend peaks your interest (there is no need to fill out a second application)! Fill out the application (DOG:https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=44, CAT: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=41, EXOTICS: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=46) completely. The entire household, including current dogs, must be present for the appointment. (Note: Please do not bring your dogs if you are meeting cats!). Story
Ebony was rescued from Detroit when she was 9 months old in November of 2024. She's very playful, energetic and loves to cuddle. We brought her into our home with our other 9 year old dog. They got along great until Ebony went into heat and Ebony became aggressive towards our older dog. We then got her spayed and she wasn't as aggressive but still did not like another dog being in the home with her. Ebony is great with people and children she just needs to be in a home with no other pets. Ebony is up to date on all her shots, she is microchipped, spayed and comes with everything you need. She is house trained doesn't chew or use the bathroom in the house. We do cage Ebony when we leave just be safe with our other dog in the house. She loves walks and she knows how to sit and shake. Ebony needs to go to a loving home it is very hard for us but is not safe to keep her with our older dog. We do need her out of the house as soon as possible. Looking for a loving family.

Story
Brody had a rough start to life, I don't think he was given much time or handled kindly by his first owner - because of this he didn't know how great people can be, but he has worked very hard to build relationships and dog skills. He's immaculate in his kennel, no messes, loves enrichment - but will obliterate pillows, orthopedic beds and stuffies with exuberant glee 😬😬😬. So....I suggest we don't give him those. I'd say he's "mostly" good for walks - once you get in the flow, and he WORKS hard for that food. He loves people, loves to be petted, and will lay by your feet all day. Brody just wants to be by your side because he loves attention now that he trusts people and is a happy fellow. He will require a fenced yard, children over 13, no cats. If you want a loyal and lovable companion Brody is the perfect dog to meet! Fosters and adopters must live within an hour of metro Detroit. Birthdate 1-29-17

This gentle giant was found on the streets of Detroit and is looking for a new home to call his own. Gino is a very good dog that is laid back but also loves going on walks. He currently lives with other dogs big and small at his foster home but also would be fine as an only dog. Gino has a fenced yard and is microchipped. Birthdate 12/30/15
