Story
Stephen is a big-hearted dog who is looking for a special home to spend his remaining time in comfort and love. Stephen was found with two mast cell tumors, Local non profit (Pound Pals Downriver) thought he deserved a second chance and funded the removal of the masses. Though his recovery was at the animal shelter, he never let it dampen his spirits. Stephen is an incredibly friendly and outgoing dog with an infectious zest for life! He is always up for an adventure, whether it's going for a long walk in the park or playing fetch with his favorite ball. He thrives on human companionship and craves love and attention. He has a heart of gold and will bring endless joy and happiness to the lucky family who opens their home to him. Stephen is still an active dog who enjoys exercise and mental stimulation. He loves the sun on his face. And he especially adores car rides! It's important to note that his activity level may decrease as his illness progresses, but he will still appreciate gentle exercise and enrichment activities that cater to his capabilities. Stephen could live for multiple years, or weeks. That just isn't something anyone can predict. He also enjoys being the center of attention, so a household where he can receive plenty of human interaction and affection would be ideal. Stephen would appreciate a safe and comfortable indoor space where he can rest and spend quality time with his family. Adopting Stephen requires a deep understanding of his condition and the emotional toll it can take. An adopter must be prepared for end-of-life care and be willing to provide him with a loving and supportive environment during his final days. While it may be challenging, the bond formed with Stephen and the opportunity to provide him comfort and happiness in his last moments is truly a remarkable act of kindness. If you believe you have the heart and compassion to provide Stephen with a loving home during his remaining time, please reach out to the shelter staff. They can provide further information about his condition, discuss the adoption process, and address any concerns or questions you may have. Giving Stephen a home filled with love and care will undoubtedly make a profound difference in his life, and the memories you create together will be cherished forever. Stephen is housetrained (and is quite serious about that). He will not use the bathroom inside! A definite plus for a large dog! Please email us with any questions concerning Stephen. If you feel you are able to provide a proper home for Stephen but have questions, please email us at wacvolunteers@gmail.com. All dogs are spayed/neutered, heartworm negative unless otherwise indicated. And all are up to date on age appropriate vaccinations. Our adoption fee for canines is $95. Interested in meeting or adopting Stephen? Please submit an application through our website at wacshelter.com. ** We DO give preference to applicants with verifiable pet experience. * Go to www.wacshelter.com * CLICK THE "APPLY ONLINE" BUTTON FOR AN ONLINE APPLICATION! :) * You will get an email confirmation * Once your application has been processed (that can take 1-3 days) a volunteer will call or email with any questions. * We set up a time with you to meet the animal you've applied to adopt! We look forward to meeting you! Please email us at wacvolunteers@gmail.com with any additional questions!

Story
Zeus was abandoned by his owner and was pretty scared of the shelter and officers at first. Once he realized no one was there to hurt him, he warned up pretty quickly. He is a playful and affectionate dog who has been great around the other dogs he has met so far. Thank you for your interest in adopting! If you think the animal in this profile might be a good fit for your home and would like to meet them, here's how! !. Go to our website at wacshelter.com. 2. Click on the Apply To Adopt button to submit an online adoption application. NOTE: You will get an email confirmation that we have received your application. If you do not see this email appear upon submission, please check your "spam" folder. 3. Your application will be processed and a volunteer will call or email with any questions. NOTE: If any questions are left unanswered or incomplete, the application cannot be processed. A completely filled out application will take 1-3 days to process! 4. We will set up a time with you to meet the animal you've applied to adopt! ** We DO give preference to applicants with verifiable dog experience as a primary caretaker. All dogs are spayed/neutered, heartworm negative unless otherwise indicated. All are up to date on age appropriate vaccinations and current on heartworm prevention! Additional questions... Does this dog get along with cats? There is almost always an acclimation period when a new pet joins the household. We are happy to suggest a few ways to ease the transition. If one of our dogs is reported to have lived with cats previously, that will be indicated in the dog's description! Does this dog react well to other dogs? No dog loves every other dog, just as humans do not like every other human they meet. A proper introduction (meet and greet) would be required as part of our application process. Is this dog good with children? The better question is how the children have been taught to handle animals. A dog will respond negatively if he/she is not being handled properly. We can offer suggestions on how to teach children to interact with dogs and pay attention to body language. Young children should never be left unsupervised with new dogs. How did this dog end up in a shelter? The top reasons dogs are given up are: Moving without considering the needs of the pets Death of the owner with no plan in place for the pets Previous owner did not provide appropriate training Owner did not consider the lifespan of a dog Owner did not consider the cost of providing for a dog

Story
If you’re looking for a spunky, older dog this may be your girl. Piper is loyal, smart, and has never met a stranger! Piper has landed with us because she could not tolerate the new baby in her previous home, despite best efforts of the family. She would do best in a quiet home with adults and perhaps older children. Though she has the energy of a younger dog and loves to be active (she can’t miss a walk!), she can usually be found snoozing on the couch. We are looking for an experienced and dedicated dog owner for this sweet lady. Piper does have medical issues that will need regular follow up and care with medications. She will need extra time and patience to decompress in a new home. Thank you for your interest in adopting! Story
He was left behind when his owners moved out. Very affectionate. He looks like a goofy, kind of floppy hound dog as he ambles around. He’s sweet and affectionate. Gets along with most dogs. He’s a little bossy with food especially with a timid dog. Feeding in a crate solves that. Loves his play time in the yard with two stout dogs. He’s a bit of a digger, but too lazy to do it in earnest. Great on a leash. The Adoption Fee Includes Age-Appropriate Vaccinations (DA2PPV, Bordetella, Rabies), Deworming, Spay/Neuter, Microchip, Flea, Tick and Heartworm Treatment and Prevention, and Sheltering. Adult Dogs are Heartworm Tested and Treated as Needed.
