Story
Nala... This girl has the most soulful eyes ever. There is a reason for that... Nala had been spotted by a kind family at a park that is known as an area where dogs are dumped. Nala was dumped with her 3 pups. Nala would not let anyone near her nor her pups. So, Nala would wander the park and surrounding areas with her pups. The family would leave her food every day. As the days went by, the family noticed that some of Nala's pups were no longer with her. Perhaps some one plucked one up. Or perhaps they died. No one knows. What we do know, is that once it was just Nala, she was more willing to trust the family. The mother would spend some time each day feeding her and sitting there and talking to her in order to gain Nala's trust. And eventually, she did. At that point, Nala was a completely different dog. She was very much willing to be with a family. A.M.O.R. was asked to help Nala. And we did. Nala is a sweet and quiet girl. She is super duper chill. She is not interested in high energy pups nor dogs. She is EXCELLENT in her kennel. She walks very well on leash. Has never made potty in her kennel. She sits quietly watching everything around her. She does not bark much either - inside nor outside. Nala enjoys the company of her people and the company of other confident, calm, and quiet dogs. Once she goes outside, she is quick about going to do her potty business. Then she casually eats her lunch. She does not like for the other dogs to be close to her when she is eating. You really can't blame her since she didn't have food for herself and her babies - she hasn't yet forgotten those hungry days. Nala is confident and enjoys hanging outside by herself as well. She enjoys the breeze, the sun, the swaying trees, etc. Not much bothers this girl. It makes us wonder what she could be thinking.... Nala is certainly ready to be in her own home. Are you the home and family that she wistfully is thinking of when she is looking far off into the trees? All of Nala's vetting has been done by my personal dogs' vet. The following is a list of what has been done for her... Spayed 2 - DA2PP shots (Distemper, Adenovirus Type 2 (Hepatitis), Parvo, and Parainfluenza) Bordatella shot Rabies shot Dewormed Tested, Treated (if needed), and retested for giardia and coccidia Iverhart heartworm preventative Simparica fleas and ticks preventative Chipped There are two categories of vaccines: “core” vaccines that are recommended for all pets, and “non-core vaccines” which may be recommended by your vet based on lifestyle and exposure risk. The core vaccine for dogs is the Rabies vaccine, which is required by law. The second core vaccine for dogs is often referred to as the DA2PP or DHPP vaccine. This stands for “Distemper, Adenovirus Type 2 (Hepatitis), Parvo, and Parainfluenza”, meaning that this vaccine protects against FOUR different diseases. It is especially important for puppies to begin a series of DA2PP vaccines at six to eight weeks of age, as natural immunity obtained from the mother decreases and puppies become very susceptible to potentially life-threatening diseases such as Canine Parvovirus (Parvo). Parvo is transmitted through feces and can remain in the environment for at least one month, and up to a year if the conditions are right. This means that puppies do not need to be directly exposed to another dog that has Parvo in order to contract the disease, and caution is advised when choosing where and how to socialize and exercise your pup. We recommend avoiding exposure to unknown dogs or public places until your puppy has finished their vaccine series. BUT, all A.M.O.R. puppies (1 year old and less) have all FOUR shots. They are safe to join you and your family on your outdoor adventures and you can rest at ease. Non-core vaccines for dogs include Bordetella, Influenza, Leptospirosis and Lyme. The Bordetella (aka: Kennel Cough) help to prevent highly-contagious respiratory diseases, and are essential for dogs that may be exposed to other dogs, especially in group settings such as dog parks, daycare, or boarding facilities. All A.M.O.R. dogs and puppies are given a Bordatella vaccine. Bordatella boosters are given every 6 months. https://www.thedrakecenter.com/services/dogs/parasites/deworming-dogs The above link is to provide you information regarding why deworming is so important for all dogs of all ages (and for their families). All A.M.O.R.s are dewormed upon entering the rescue and then again 5 days before their health certificate visit (when they have been adopted and ready to travel). This dewormer is issued per our vet. And all pets are tested, treated (if needed), and retested for coccidia and giardia. A.M.O.R. provides you with this information so that you can be aware of the work and love that is given to each pet. Each puppy has visited the vet AT LEAST 5 times during their stay with us. They have seen the vet 4 times for their shots and will see the vet 1-2 more times prior to transport in order to obtain a health certificate for travel. Adult dogs have seen the vet AT LEAST 3 times. Two visits for their shots and 1-2 visits prior to transport in order to obtain a health certificate. Are you ready to have a wonderful lifetime companion in Nala??? All animals receive a health certificate (stating that a licensed veterinarian saw the pet and deemed it healthy for travel, but is not a promise of perfect health). Please email for an A.M.O.R. application in order to be considered. Please note: this pet is located out of state.

Story
This is THELMA! Thelma is a beautiful brindle pup who is likely a lab/shepherd mix. She is bonded to her bestie (and biological sister!) LOUISE and they are known around the sanctuary as "Las Bandidas" - the bandits! Don't worry - they are not bank robbers on the run (haha), nor are they looking to get away from you! In fact, they are the opposite! They are both total mushes and love hugs and cuddles and human attention. They also get along well with other dogs! Just like her sister, Louise, Thelma has a high level of energy and will require their new guardian to provide them lots of exercise and playtime! If we had to compare the two, Louise has a slightly lower level of energy even though it is still high. They really love going on adventures and hiking! If you think you can be the perfect family for this duo, please apply! They are such amazing dogs and we look forward to finding that special adopter who wants to take these two. ________________________________________________________________________________ PLEASE NOTE: This dog is currently in Puerto Rico. Once an adopter is fully approved, transport will be arranged to New York. In addition, if you are applying for this dog or any of our pups, you must be open to dog psychology/behavior (Cesar Millan) and fulfilling the needs of the dog. We strive for our dogs to be adopted into the right home. The best fit for the dog is our priority. We ask that you please make sure if interested in a puppy or high energy breed that you are ready for this time consuming/daily endeavor and have patience as this is a long term commitment (could be 15+ years). Please consider your future lifestyle after COVID. Please make sure you are ready to properly exercise and give a dog all it needs for fulfillment. Your ongoing time and day-to-day commitment is the most important thing in caring for a dog. In addition we cannot guarantee breed of any dog or expected adult size of a puppy. Thank you for understanding.

Story
Meet SOPHIA! Sophia is such a sweetie and is just learning to come out of her shell. She absolutely loves to play with other dogs, and as you can see, enjoys frolicking in the grass! She tends to be a little shy with humans at first but once she gets to know you, she is shows interest by sitting by your side and playing with your loose shoelaces or clothing (haha!). We know she will fully come out of her shell soon and especially once she gets to your home, knows you, and has an established routine. She was recently rescued along with her other siblings Simon and Ricky so she is still getting used to her new surroundings! We would LOVE if Sophia were adopted by a person/family with another dog in the home as we think that will give her added confidence at first. As of late March, she is 3.5 months old and 13.4 lbs. Lab mix. Will you be her forever home? If you think you and Sophia will be a great fit, please apply! FOR IMMEDIATE CONSIDERATION, PLEASE COMPLETE AN APPLICATION. Applications must be complete to be considered. Applications receive priority; questions are secondary (although we try hard to answer all of them!). _______________________________________________________________ PLEASE NOTE: This dog is currently in Puerto Rico.
