Charlie is a very skittish guy whose past is a mystery but has been through a lot. He was trapped by our friends at Buddha Rescue and Recovery after panicking and bolting from a new foster home through another rescue and surviving on his own in the woods for 10 days... previous he had been a stray in NYC who was captured by animal control with a broken pelvis and suffering from heatstroke! He was covered in old scars and we aren't sure how long he living feral on the streets or if he's ever had a "real home"Charlie seemed to have never been on a leash before and would panic and try to escape or refuse to walk, but has been learning from following the other dogs and is starting to enjoy some walks. He is still very skittish with humans and hasn't learned to bond to people just yet but gets a little more comfortable each day. He is a major escape artist when he gets scared so will need a secure home with someone patient and committed to helping him feel safe and adjust to life in a real home for what may be the first time in his life. We think he is about 9 years old, 50lbs and a pit lab mix. Charlie's ideal home would be adults only and very quiet, patient people willing to accept him for who is and celebrate the little victories as he gains confidence. Poor sad Charlie Bear was adopted from Rbari 7 years ago and hates the return to shelter life after so much time in a home! His owner passed away suddenly and sadly no one was able to take him in. He's a friendly mid-sized 8 year old mixed breed, very sweet and gentle with people. Unfortunately he was never socialized properly with dogs and is reactive, especially toward larger ones he sees on walks. Dogs like Charlie are the hardest to find homes for and have the hardest time in a shelter setting surrounded by dogs when they fear and dislike other animals. One on one he's a great dog, just isn't a dog who can socialize with neighbors' and family members' dogs, go to dog parks, or be walked in areas with a lot of dogs. He would be perfectly content just hanging in his house and fenced yard with his people and going on walks in quieter areas. He's is actually an easy and lovable dog well-mannered gentleman in the right setting where he doesn't have to be stressed out worried about the threat of constantly seeing other dogs walking by. Story
Ebony's story. She was dumped in our neighborhood and we're not sure if she was dumped with her puppies or if she gave birth in the woods. She was spotted several times by the neighbors, sometimes by herself, sometimes with a puppy or two. If anybody tried to approach her, she would run back into the dense woods. We were not aware of her presence until we got a call from animal control saying that a neighbor had spotted her across the street from their yard. We ran down to the neigbors and set a trap in their front yard. First day, we caught a neighborhood cat, next day, a feral cat. Third day was a charm, we got up early that moring and there she was in the trap! We brought her back to the rescue, let her decompress for a couple of hours and then the hunt was on for her puppies. We walked her through the woods playing puppy crying sounds on the phone, nothing. We searched for days, nothing. We finally had to give up, knowing that none of them could possibly be alive at this point. She had a sadness about her for a few days and we all cried with her. Her transformation now has been amazing! She's a happy crazy clown of a dog! She's been spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, crate trained and house broken. We believe her to be what we call a Pit-A-Dor, half Lab, half Pit, best combination of dog on the planet! She's ready for her forever family to bring her home! Could that be you? MEET RONDA! The foster mom says about this incredibly sweet and wonderful girl: "... she is good with everyone! She is a complete darling -- super loving and affectionate." Ronda is an amazing shelter survivor, doing incredibly well in her foster home. She is with few other dogs and LOVES them. She LOVES her humans, too. She is learning some basic commands but is very food motivated and picks it up quickly. She already know the house routine and does very well. She is truly a sweetheart that just wants to be loved! AND she is a great, petite size at about 35 lbs. She may be fine with cats, right now she is a bit "scared" of them, other times she isn't bothered. Ronda is about 2.5 yrs old and weighs about 38 lbs. She is UTD and spayed, chipped. Please note that Ronda does have limited vision in one eye from a previous unknown injury.
