Story
Adorable Abby is a petite, 6 month old, Cattle Dog mix. Abby was dumped on a dirt road in Texas with a chihuahua friend. They were picked up and brought to a local rescue and then awaited transport to MHCR. Given what she’s been through, Abby is a bit reluctant to trust new people. She overcomes this fairly quickly and finds great comfort in her known humans and canines. Abby is crate trained and does well on a leash. She’s not a social butterfly but does enjoy jaunts around the block or even hikes! Abby is loyal to the core and smart as a whip. She is a professional cuddler when it comes time to settle down. Abby will thrive in a home that isn’t super busy and has older or no children. We also feel she’s best suited with another dog and a fenced yard. Abby is being fostered in Denver, Colorado. *We require all adopters to come to Colorado to adopt. *We do not transport dogs. * You can view this wonderful dog at https://www.milehighcanine.org/post/dogs/abby/. Story
Sweet Honey originally joined MHCR back in May 2023 as a young pup with her whole life ahead of her. She was adopted into a loving family where she quickly became a cherished family member. Due to the time Honey spent in a shelter environment as a young pup, she had some fears and skittish behavior when meeting new people. While out on a walk in her apartment complex, Honey snapped at the leg of a maintenance worker who startled her. While she didn’t break skin, the landlord’s policy on bites was not flexible and her family was forced to return her. Honey is a dog friendly girl weighing around 40-45 lbs. She melts into the tiniest of spaces when cuddling with her humans and adored her human kiddo sibling. She’s house trained and crate trained and walks well on a leash, too. Her surrender was heartbreaking for not only her, but her family as well. We are so hopeful for Honey that she will know that kind of love from a family again. Honey would do best in a household that doesn’t have a lot of people coming and going. It will take her some time to warm up and a companion dog may help with that, but isn’t required in her forever home. She’s only a year old now and smart as a whip with quite a bit of training under her belt. Honey is available for fostering or adoption. Honey is being fostered in Aurora, Colorado. *We require all adopters to come to Colorado to adopt. *We do not transport dogs. * You can view this wonderful dog at https://www.milehighcanine.org/post/dogs/honey/. Luke loves to wrestle with his foster siblings and is often seen carrying his stuffed toys all around the house. He’s mastering the art of potty and crate training, too. Story
Mateo is a cute heeler pup that has so much to offer. He is very loving and bonds quickly to his humans. In fact, his whole face lights up with happiness when he feels safe. He is very submissive to other dogs and wants to play with them but reads the room really well. Mateo has a good bit of energy and would love a home with people who like to hike and be active. He would not do well left alone or being in a kennel during the day for hours of time. He loves to play and would benefit from another playful dog in the home. Mateo is a very smart, curious boy that’s eager to please. He is good around cats and kids(12+), too! Mateo is being fostered in Louisville, Colorado. *We require all adopters to come to Colorado to adopt. *We do not transport dogs. * You can view this wonderful dog at https://www.milehighcanine.org/post/dogs/mateo/. Story
We’d like to introduce you to our very own Lt. Dan! This stunning, tri-color, tri-pawed, boy is approx 12 months old. He came to MHCR as kind of a unique situation. His family reached out for help with the cost of an amputation surgery due to a bad break in his leg. In an effort to keep him in his home, we agreed. Unfortunately, they changed their minds and decided they no longer wanted him. We couldn’t leave him hanging, so pulled him from the shelter and got him his surgery then brought him to foster in Colorado. Lt. Dan is crate and house trained. He zips around faster than any dog with 4 legs that I’ve ever seen (which is impressive given he only has 3). He’s cat friendly and dog friendly! The Heeler in him calls for a home with older kiddos as he can be kinda mouthy when playing or when excited. Lt. Dan’s humans should have a fenced in yard and a passion for smart dogs. Lt. Dan loves to learn and he’s food motivated, which makes training a breeze! Lt. Dan is being fostered in Longmont, Colorado. *We require all adopters to come to Colorado to adopt. *We do not transport dogs. * You can view this wonderful dog at https://www.milehighcanine.org/post/dogs/lt-dan/. Story
Look at Debbie and those amazing ears!! This little beauty queen is 6.5 months old and seems to be a cattle dog mix. She’s ultra tiny right now at only around 20 lbs, but we think she will fill out somewhere around 25-30 lbs. While she may be small, she can hang with the big dogs as she’s presently being raised in a family of Great Danes! Debbie is a fun and vibrant pup that’s ready for a family of her own. Debbie is being fostered in Fort Collins, Colorado. *We require all adopters to come to Colorado to adopt. *We do not transport dogs. * You can view this wonderful dog at https://www.milehighcanine.org/post/dogs/debbie-gibson/.
