Story
Oscar is the happiest boy you'll ever meet! This young lab/heeler mix LOVES all people. He's very friendly! He's good with kids and people of all ages as long as they like getting lots of kisses. Oscar is cat friendly as long as the cat has been around dogs and understands they can be annoying at times. Oscar does need a reminder to mind his manners from time to time, like not jumping when meeting new people. Oscar does well with the two other doggos in his foster home, but can come on a little strong and excited so will need a proper introduction to any dogs in the home. He is crate trained. When you leave for work, it takes him about 5 minutes to settle in, but at night when he knows you're there, he sleeps without a peep! He sleeps like an angel in his crate all night, and will even sleep in with you on the weekends. He would totally love to share the bed with you, but is perfectly fine having some personal space in his crate. He's still working on housetraining. He LOVES toys. And as he's still a young pup, he needs to be reminded what is appropriate to chew on at times. He's the perfect mix of fun and snuggles that is sure to be a great addition to any home! Oscar's adoption fee is $200. He will come fully vetted, heartworm tested, neutered, with a microchip and up to date on flea and tick and heartworm prevention. Story
Cap'n is a unique and beautiful boy looking for an active family. He was born in our care and adopted 4 years prior. His owner tragically died and he came back to our program for a second chance at happiness. He is about 70lbs and wicked smart. He is potty trained, crate trained, and does great on a leash and in the car. True to his breed he likes to be active and likes to learn things but is also down for a good snuggle. He would be a great running buddy or a great fit for an active person. He does seem to bond particularly close to men and would do best with a male owner in the home. Due to his size and energy we recommend his home have a yard, no small children, and no cats. Cap'n had completed a 2 week board and train program with Midas Touch dog training. True to his breed he can be protective in meeting new people and James his trainer can give specific instructions on how to do this to set Cap'n's family up for success. He can also have a tendency to "herd" the other dogs in his home. This is a common breed trait in cattle dogs. He would do best as an only dog or with another male dog. His trainer James will discuss these instructions in full detail with any interested families and continue to provide training support for Cap'n ongoing at no cost to his adopter! If you are interested in meeting Cap'n, please fill out an application via our website at https://therescueproject.net/adoption-application and we will get back to you via email once your application has been reviewed. If you have further questions please feel free to reach out to us at adoptionstrp@gmail.com. Cap'n's adoption fee is $200 and includes age appropriate vaccines, neuter, microchip, deworm, heartworm testing.

Story
In NIxa, MO Rusty is a one-and-a half-year-old, 30lb miniature Australian shepherd mix. Rusty has had some traumatic events in his life that have caused him to be a little fearful of people. He needs a patient adopter that understands herding breeds. He is still mouthy but doesn't bite. He needs a home with adults. Youngsters scare him. Once he warms up to a person, he will be by your side 24/7. Rusty would do very well with another pup in the family to play with. Rusty loves to destroy plushies and fetch balls. He would do well in agility training. Rusty has a ton of energy so he will need a safe yard to run in. He does tend to play rough with other dogs. With a little training Rusty will be the perfect companion. For an adoption application, please email Lissa at: eoawster1982@gmail.com Rusty's adoption fee is $200. Note: Dogs are pack animals and do not do well away from other members of their pack. The adopter is the alpha member of the pack, and the dog or puppy needs as much one-on-one contact with the alpha as possible. For this reason, all Route 66 Rescue Inc. dogs are adopted to inside homes only. They must be on leash, or inside a secure fence when outside, and not left outside alone when no one is home. Invisible fencing does not qualify as protection since other animals and strangers have access to the dog. The dogs must be returned to Route 66 Rescue, Inc. if ever given up by the adopter. Thank you for understanding we want only the best for the dogs you give a forever home.
