Story
This precious boy with the sweetest smile and bright eyes is Garrett. He arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 4/17, as a stray. Garrett is listed as an Australian Kelpie mix. He has an attractive golden coat with dark streaks and beautiful eyes. He weighs 67 pounds, is about 2 years of age and has been neutered since arriving at the shelter. He looks to have been nicely cared for. He may be house trained as he did his business in the yard. He walks well on a leash and had no reaction to several dogs that barked at him as he walked past their kennels. He is amiable and has a sweet disposition. He was A-OK with allowing me to pet him. Garrett is well behaved, calm and gentle, and a bit on the shy side at this point. Just like all of our dogs, he deserves a home in which he would receive plenty of TLC, an inside life with his people, a soft cushy doggy bed or two and nutritious food. Have I convinced you that Garrett would doubtless be an amazingly devoted and loving pet?

Story
This excitable high-energy boy is Toby, listed as an Australian Kelpie, weighing 70lbs, about 2 years old and neutered. He was surrendered on 4/17 to the Mesquite Animal Shelter because his owner was moving and unable or unwilling to take him. Owner reported that he is house trained, is OK with other dogs, cats, and children, but has not lived with any of these. He likes to play and go for walks. He seems to have been well cared for although perhaps over fed. His coat is shiny and soft and his eyes are a beautiful blue! I discovered that he loves to chase and throw tennis balls up in the air to entertain himself. He is very energetic and in his excitement will jump on you. Until that behavior is corrected Toby would not be a good dog for a home with young children. Also, it was very difficult to get a leash on him as he resisted very stringently! He needs to be trained to having a leash put on. Once he had a leash on, he was fine and walked OK although has a bit of a strong pull. I think he is missing his owner and doesn’t have a clue as to how he ended up in a city shelter. Can`t say as I blame him! He is friendly and let me pet him.

Story
Age: 2 years Age: 2 years Weight: 32 lbs  Good with dogs: Yes Good with cats: Unknown Good with kids:  Selective Activity level: Medium Shedding: Low Vocal level: Medium Training: Crate, Doggy Door, Mostly Potty Trained Maddy is a petite little girl with a shepherd face and the cutest pointy ears and underbite. She had her back right leg amputated and is happier and faster than ever! She was born with a deformed leg that our vet determined was causing her pain and made it harder for her to get around. Maddy is timid around new people, but with a little time (and plenty of treats!) she warms up and understands you are safe to be around. She adapts to adults faster than children and will probably do better in a home with no kids or older, patient kids. Maddy does great with other dogs and loves to play with her foster siblings! She also likes to spend time hanging out in the backyard or napping on the couch.March 22, 2025, 8:37 am

Story
Sheba is a friendly, sweet, amazing dog! She is playful, but ready for snuggles at the end of the day! We have had her for six months, and sadly, we have to rehome her as She is not Getting along well with our original dog. She gets competitive when playing and protective so she will start a fight with the dog if she gets hyped up. Originally, we were told that she is only like this with little dogs, which is why we took her, but after much effort, we have decided it’s safer for both dogs if we find her a new loving home. She is not aggressive towards humans at all. With some professional training, she would probably be amazing, but we do not have the resources or time to put into that. She is well trained otherwise, loves being outside or inside and is very loyal. She has had all her shots, but is due for a rabies update. Two years ago, she tested positive for heart worms, but has been on medicine ever since.
