Lily is a 1-year-old Australian Kelpie mix, weighing about 45 pounds. She was living on a farm in Sherman, where people weren’t very kind to her and things were starting to go south quickly. Thankfully, she’s now safe, loved, and thriving. She has been spayed, is heartworm negative, and is current on all vaccines. Lily is doing great with house training, is crate trained, and has learned to walk nicely on a leash — she loves going for walks now! It took her a day or two to get comfortable with the other dogs in her foster home, but now she absolutely loves to play with them. This sweet, gentle girl is ready for a forever home where she can continue to blossom and be loved the way she deserves. This adorable tail-wagging pup is Olivia, listed as an Australian Kelpie that was brought to the Mesquite Animal Shelter as a stray on 10/4. My dog scanner suggests possibly Welsh Corgi, Cardigan and Rat Terrier in the mix. Olivia weighs 32 lbs and is about 7 mos old. Those soulful eyes and oversized ears give her such an adorable appearance! She knows a sit command and will do so for treats which she takes quite politely! She walks nicely on a leash. Olivia was so thrilled to get out of her kennel and romp around in the yard. As with a number of our dogs, she does jump on you. This is not abnormal and is a behavior that can be corrected. Naturally she has a lot of puppy energy and needs daily exercise and playtime. There is really so much to like about this mild-mannered girl and she would make someone a wonderful companion. She wants and deserves an inside life, bonding with her peeps and being an important part of the family.

This spunky little boy is Kirby, an Aussie kelpie mix that came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter as a stray on 9/29. Kirby weighs 19lbs and is about 4 months old. One of the staff members who has spent some time with him described him as “naturally smart.” Since it is unlikely that he has had much, if any, time spent with him by his owners, he gave the staff member a paw when she reached for it. And he sat for her. He also acted as though he didn`t know what a leash was, so I carried him to the meet and greet room and he got a free ride. Then later when I put the leash on him again, he walked for me. He is a friendly fellow who likes to stay close to a human friend. Kirby is fine with being petted and loved on and even gave some kisses. He has lots of puppy energy and does jump on you. Kirby is very fond of toys and kept himself entertained with a various toys in our meet and greet room. He has somewhat of a deep-throated bark used to get your attention, but is certainly as sweet as can be! This high- spirited youngster would love for his stay at the shelter to be very short.

Meet Miss Pluto! She is a 7yr old spayed female Australian Kelpie mix that weighs 50lbs. She came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 9/30 as a stray. She is an adorable girl that always has a sparkle in her eyes. She is well mannered with a happy go lucky personality. She enjoyed investigating the play yard and had a few zoomies as well. She walks well on a leash and takes treats gently. She wasn’t interested in toys, but once out of the shelter, she may find a favorite one. She doesn’t show any interest in other dogs barking at her or just walking by. We do always ask if there is another dog in the home to please ask the shelter for dog test. While she has been at the shelter, she was given a bath and did so well, and even gave a kiss! She loves to be close to her human companions for plenty of pets and hugs. She would do best in a laid back household where she has a secured yard to lounge in, then come back inside to cuddle close to her loved ones. Miss Pluto has a lot of love to give. Come spend some time with her!
