Age: 2 years Age: 1 1/2 years Weight: 32 lbs  Good with dogs: Yes Good with cats: Unknown Good with kids:  Selective Activity level: Medium Shedding: Low Vocal level: Medium Training: Crate, Doggy Door, Mostly Potty Trained Maddy is a petite little girl with a shepherd face and the cutest pointy ears and underbite. She had her back right leg amputated and is happier and faster than ever! She was born with a deformed leg that our vet determined was causing her pain and made it harder for her to get around. Maddy is timid around new people, but with a little time (and plenty of treats!) she warms up and understands you are safe to be around. She adapts to adults faster than children and will probably do better in a home with no kids or older, patient kids. Maddy does great with other dogs and loves to play with her foster siblings! She also likes to spend time hanging out in the backyard or napping on the couch.June 20, 2025, 9:30 am

Story
This precious boy with the sweetest smile and bright eyes is Garrett. He arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 4/17, as a stray. Garrett is listed as an Australian Kelpie mix. He has an attractive golden coat with dark streaks and beautiful eyes. He weighs 67 pounds, is about 2 years of age and has been neutered since arriving at the shelter. He looks to have been nicely cared for. He may be house trained as he did his business in the yard. He walks well on a leash and had no reaction to several dogs that barked at him as he walked past their kennels. He is amiable and has a sweet disposition. He was A-OK with allowing me to pet him. Garrett is well behaved, calm and gentle, and a bit on the shy side at this point. Just like all of our dogs, he deserves a home in which he would receive plenty of TLC, an inside life with his people, a soft cushy doggy bed or two and nutritious food. Have I convinced you that Garrett would doubtless be an amazingly devoted and loving pet?

Story
This excitable high-energy boy is Toby, listed as an Australian Kelpie, weighing 70lbs, about 2 years old and neutered. He was surrendered on 4/17 to the Mesquite Animal Shelter because his owner was moving and unable or unwilling to take him. Owner reported that he is house trained, is OK with other dogs, cats, and children, but has not lived with any of these. He likes to play and go for walks. He seems to have been well cared for although perhaps over fed. His coat is shiny and soft and his eyes are a beautiful blue! I discovered that he loves to chase and throw tennis balls up in the air to entertain himself. He is very energetic and in his excitement will jump on you. Until that behavior is corrected Toby would not be a good dog for a home with young children. Also, it was very difficult to get a leash on him as he resisted very stringently! He needs to be trained to having a leash put on. Once he had a leash on, he was fine and walked OK although has a bit of a strong pull. I think he is missing his owner and doesn’t have a clue as to how he ended up in a city shelter. Can`t say as I blame him! He is friendly and let me pet him.

Story
Kino is a sweet cuddly pup who will never turn down snuggle time on the couch. Kino, who currently weighs about 25 lbs, gets along well with the older dogs in our home and would make a great addition to any family. Kino who is about 5-6 months old may be a bit barky and shy at first, but once he knows you’ll give belly rubs and treats, you’ll win him over forever! Kino was rescued with his sister and mom from the back of a very unpleasant gas station. The vets suspected they were born out in the elements so he has been adapting to life indoors. He knows to wait for his food when it’s dinner time, as well as sit when he feels like it. Kino is almost potty trained, he will need a family that will keep up with basic obedience commands, socialization and potty training! FYI, Kino will be neutered before he gets adopted. We are a RESCUE GROUP, not a shelter, and all of our animals are in foster homes. To start the adoption process, email us at adoptions@earstexas.org requesting an application. Submitting an application does not commit you in any way, but helps us make the best match between people and our available dogs. Your current or past dogs must be inside dogs who have been spayed/neutered and are on heartworm prevention. All of the dogs in our program are inside dogs and are completely vetted including all vaccinations, spayed/neutered, free of internal parasites, microchipped, heartworm negative and on prevention before adoption. Our adoption process includes an application, check of vet records or personal references, interview, neutral site meet & greet with the dog and your family, and a home visit.

Story
Cinta is a spunky little girl who is just gorgeous! She has a shy and timid personality at first but can sure be the life of the party once she settles and gets to know you. She currently weighs about 25 lbs. Cinta was rescued with her brother and mom from the back of a very unpleasant gas station. The vets suspected they were born out in the elements, so she has been adapting to life indoors. Cinta LOVES the hose, she will run around the backyard chasing the water and doesn’t mind getting sprayed down a little in the process. Cinta is very food driven and will do well with positive reinforcement and praise. She knows how to wait for her food when it’s dinner time and sit when she feels like it. Cinta is almost potty trained, she will need a family that will keep up with basic obedience commands, socialization and potty training! Cinta will be spayed before she gets adopted. Story
Say hello to the affectionate Venus! This 4.5-year old, 50 lbs mixed breed is full of warmth and fuzziness. We welcomed her into our lives in December 2020 after adopting from Trinity GAP Rescue, and it's been amazing ever since. Venus has a vibrant personality and absolutely loves to cuddle. She gets along with other dogs and currently lives with her twin brother. One of Venus' favorite things is curling up with their humans for some cozy snuggles and she'll beg you to pet him. An ideal home for Venus would be one with a place outside where she can run around. She is crate, leash, and house trained, and knows to sit and shake. This clever little one also loves bones. This adoring dog is more than ready to find their forever home. Could that be with you?
