Preston at first was more interested in smelling and checking out the yard than interacting with me, but then I got out a treat and I definitely had his attention! Also, when I sat down, he immediately came to me. He does want to interact with you. You have to be patient to build a rapport with him. Preston is a two year-old 50 pound mostly Australian Kelpie/Lancshire Heeler mix. He’s tri-colored with hazel eyes that complement his coloring. He’s a very attractive boy. You’ll be the envy of your neighbors when you take Preston for a walk. He is curious and alert. His sense of smell is important to him. He’s active. He’s cautiously friendly and has a lot of love to offer. Some of this love is in the form of kisses. He did his business in the yard. He has a strong pull on the leash. He would like to get out for some playtime and then come in and chill with his new family.

Meet Jodi! She is a 9 mo old female Australian Kelpie mix that weighs 20lbs. She came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 9/29 as a stray. Jodi is a spitfire! She is pure puppy energy. She enjoys doing zoomies in the shelter yard, playing with toys and will continue to jump on you. Being a puppy, she has sharp little nails too. She will need to have additional training to help with these behaviors and would be best to be in an adult home at this time. As she saw other dogs in another play yard, she had several conversations with them while wagging her tail. Having an active family to provide her daily activities, plenty of toys, and to play in a secured yard, then back inside to close to her family members is what this beautiful girl deserves. She walks ok on a leash and takes treats gently. If you can offer sweet Jodi that active lifestyle she needs, please come spend some time with her.

We recently started fostering Kash, and are trying to find him his forever home. Kash is a 10-year-old, 37lb Australian Kelpie mix who came to us after a heartbreaking situation — the dog he had lived peacefully with for years suddenly became aggressive towards him, and his mom made the incredibly tough choice to rehome him so he could be safe. Kash is a very sweet boy. He’s potty trained, walks well on a leash, calm in the car, and content staying home alone. He’s independent but loves affection, and he’s been wonderful with our dogs — even our rambunctious 1-year-old heeler puppy. You may notice some wounds in the photos from where he was attacked, those are now fully healed. Kash deserves a loving home for his golden years. If you’re looking for a loyal, low-maintenance companion, Kash might be your guy!

Meet Sami: A sweet, loving girl searching for her perfect single-dog home. Sami is an incredibly friendly and affectionate girl who loves people and has so much love to give. We adopted her from a shelter in January 2026 after a rocky start in life where she narrowly escaped euthanasia. While she is absolutely wonderful with humans, we have run into a heartbreaking obstacle. She and our long-time resident dog are continually getting into serious fights. Despite our deep love for both, the situation has become unsafe, resulting in injuries to both dogs and humans. We simply lack the specialized tools and environment required to safely manage severe household dog-to-dog conflict. It breaks our hearts, but Sami deserves to thrive in a secure home where she can be the center of someone's universe. What Sami Needs: • An only-pet home: She will blossom as the sole pet. • An experienced handler: A home with training experience to build her confidence.

Meet Belle! A sweet and soulful almost three-year-old Kelpie mix currently in Azle, TX, whose tricolor coat is just as vibrant as her heart is gentle. Belle is the kind of girl who melts into your side for a cuddle, flashes a warm-eyed smile, and politely sits for treats with the elegance of a pup who has clearly aced her obedience classes. This affectionate girl is happiest soaking up love from her favorite people! Belle has completed multiple levels of training and knows commands like sit, stay, down, up, go, and kennel! She's crate-trained, house-trained, microchipped, in excellent health, and up to date on vaccinations. At about 30 pounds, she’s a wonderfully portable, medium-sized companion who enjoys daily walks, chew toys, and cozying up with her people. She's exceptionally well-behaved, has never damaged anything or had an indoor accident, and is easy to bathe. Smart, quick to learn, and highly food-motivated, Belle responds beautifully to training! Belle is also an enthusiastic adventure buddy who absolutely loves the water. After spending time at the beach, she made it clear that splashing and exploring near the water are right up her alley! She’s a fantastic travel companion, too. Once she’s in the car, she’s happy to chill out, enjoy the ride, and keep her person company along the way! Her love of togetherness extends to everyday life. Belle happily joins her caregiver outside while working in the yard and enjoys simply being part of whatever is happening. She welcomes visitors warmly after a little initial barking and loves meeting people. She's also great with the cat she currently lives with! Belle's interactions with dogs depend on the setting. She's comfortable around dogs at parks and generally pays little attention to them on hikes. However, she can become protective when unfamiliar dogs enter her home. Since her comfort with a resident dog hasn't been fully assessed, a home without another dog would be the simpler fit. Families with dogs should plan slow introductions on neutral ground. Belle needs a confident, consistent adult family who will continue her leash training, as she tends to pull on walks. With positive reinforcement, patience, and her eagerness to learn, she has wonderful potential to make progress. Her compatibility with children remains unknown.
