Story
Reggie is at our shelter. Please submit an application from our website or just come in to meet him during open hours! Scroll through his pictures to see his videos! Reggie has a sad past, but a bright future ahead. Things can only get better for Reggie and his sister Rita. Rita and Reggie and many, many more of their siblings and relatives, were found in a Chicago home after the owner passed. Over a dozen cattle dogs (we assume they are all related) were living in terrible conditions in a home that looked normal from the outside. Chicago Animal Care and Control was alerted to the situation, but the dogs were so under-socialized and afraid that to take them all to the city shelter would be not only an issue of space (our city shelter is constantly full and in the terrible position of euthanizing dogs for space) but given how shut down they all were, a loud and scary place like that would make them worse. A local rescue, One Tail at a Time, was contacted in order to avoid these dogs going to CACC. They took all of the younger cattle dogs as some of the adults would not even allow them to approach. We were then contacted about taking two, and we stepped up-- how could we not once we saw their adorable faces? Rita and Reggie are so shut down, but in the span of 24 hours they have made incredible progress, and we are not just saying that! They do not solicit affection at first, but baby talk them a little and they come press into you and nudge for a little bit more pets. They may shy away at first and almost flinch as you reach for them, but neither of them has a mean bone and will let you scoop them up into your arms. They had baths without issue, walked on leash for the first time (just a few steps but we were so proud!), and participated in playgroup! One thing that has been helping them, in addition to the TLC from staff and volunteers is socializing with other dogs! We even have them rooming with Pretty Henry, our helper dog at the shelter, so they have a confident role model at all times. We would love to get Reggie into a home, so he can really blossom. Reggie will need a patient adopter who has a home on the quieter side, without a lot of hustle and bustle. Reggie is so sweet, but he is nervous at first and may bark. This lasts all of two seconds, though. He is slightly more outgoing than his sister, and we have already seen him playing with a toy in his kennel when he thought no one was watching! If you would like to be a part of Reggie's journey, please email dogs@heartlandanimalshelter.org about fostering or adopting this goo dboy, or come in to visit during open hours. Reggie's adoption fee is $250. This animal will be neutered at a future date to be determined, is up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.

Story
Meet Lincoln....... Lincoln is an adorable young boy, thought to be a Border Collie Mix. Like Border Collies, he’s very smart, a quick learner, very alert and quite energetic!! At age 9 months, he weighs 38 lbs. It is most important to note that we cannot be 100% sure of his adult weight, but our best guess is about 40ish lbs. This handsome boy joined BAARK from an overcrowded shelter in Kentucky earlier this year. He is thought to have been born around December 23, 2022. He was a scared little puppy when entering our rescue program but has come out of his shell and has evolved into a playful, sociable, and somewhat mischievous boy. Lincoln is great with dogs outside of his foster home, but can be protective of his home and human, indoors. Most likely Lincoln would prefer being an only dog, receiving all the attention he deserves. However he could to ok with a calm easy-going female. He would probably be far too energetic for a senior (dog or human!) An ideal family for Lincoln is one able to assimilate the energy of a young boy into its lifestyle and is willing to commit the time to working with and training Lincoln to be his best self! A secure, above-ground fenced yard is important. Lincoln would not thrive as an apartment dweller. Lincoln is crate-trained and is working on good house manners (housebreaking). He is up to date on all age-appropriate vaccinations, is heartworm negative and is on heartworm preventative. He is neutered and microchipped as well. . For information about adding this adorable boy to your family please contact BAARKDogRescue@gmail.com or 847-852-0895. BAARK is located in the far NW suburbs of Chicago and adopts local to this area.
