At just three months old, he and his brother, Arlo, found themselves in one of our local shelters facing euthanasia before they had even had the chance to experience what it meant to be loved. Thankfully, Sunshine Acres Animal Sanctuary, Inc. was able to step in. When Arrow first arrived, he was terrified. He didn’t understand that people could be kind. He kept his distance, avoided touch, and watched the world with fearful eyes. Trust wasn’t something that came naturally—it had to be earned. And earn it, we did. With patience, consistency, and lots of love (and plenty of treats!), Arrow slowly began to realize that people weren’t something to fear. Day by day, he grew more confident. The puppy who once wouldn’t let anyone near him now seeks out affection, leans in for pets, and happily welcomes the people he knows and loves. His transformation has been nothing short of incredible. Arrow and Arlo have become two of the most well-behaved puppies we’ve ever welcomed through our doors. They were housebroken within their first week at the sanctuary and quickly mastered crate training. Their eagerness to learn—and their love of snacks—made training both fun and rewarding. Arrow is incredibly intelligent, just what you’d expect from a Border Collie/Labrador Retriever mix, and he’s always excited to learn something new. Today, Arrow is a sweet, affectionate young dog with a heart that’s finally learned what safety feels like. He loves being close to his people and has blossomed into a loyal companion who simply wants to be loved in return. Before going to his forever home, Arrow will receive his upcoming veterinary care at the end of August and will be fully vetted and ready to begin his next chapter. Arrow has already overcome more in his first year of life than most dogs ever should. We’d love it if he can be adopted with his brother Arlo but it would be okay for them to be adopted separately as well. They’ve get along great, but they aren’t completely bonded. Now all Arlo needs is someone willing to give him what every dog deserves—a family to call his own. Meet Ariel! Ariel is a beautiful 2-year-old Heeler mix weighing approximately 36 pounds who is looking for a special family to help her begin a much brighter chapter. Ariel was one of 14 animals surrendered to RAC on 10/3/26 after her previous home became overwhelmed with too many animals. Ariel is a shy but incredibly sweet girl who will need a patient, understanding family willing to give her the time she needs to feel safe, build confidence, and learn what it means to truly thrive in a home. She arrived at RAC with several significant wounds after being targeted by other adult dogs in her previous home. She is actively receiving treatment and continues to heal a little more each day. For now, Ariel is being given space from other dogs while she recovers. This does not necessarily mean she cannot live with another dog in the future, but we want to give her the opportunity to heal before asking too much of her. If you have another dog and are interested in adopting Ariel, a scheduled meet and greet will be required to help determine whether they may be a good match. Ariel's adoption fee is $125. Meet Kira! Kira's story has not been an easy one, but she is ready for a new beginning. She was found off Steger Towne Crossing in Rockwall on 8/12/26 and never reclaimed. Kira is an approximately 7 month old female Kelpie/Basenji mix weighing approx. 36 pounds who is now looking for a patient, understanding home where she can finally feel safe and secure. Kira is shy at first but has a very sweet nature once she begins to warm up. She is still learning how to navigate the world and will need an experienced dog owner who can provide guidance, structure, and patience in order to build her confidence and learn how to simply be a dog again.
