She’s a beautiful 1-year-old, 48-pound black and white spayed female Border Collie/Canaan Dog mix who arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 4/3. Her glossy coat and stand-up ears make her stand out, and she may even be housetrained. We became instant best friends! She’s polite, takes treats gently, and walks nicely on a leash. She came right over when I called her. Plus, she’s already spayed. I fell in love with her, and I think you will too.

Meet Sebastian! He is a 2 yr old male mixed breed that weighs 69lbs. He is a very handsome boy and when using dog scanner it stated he may have a mix of Border Collie, Besenji, and Bull Terrier. He came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 10/27 as a stray. He has a majestic and regal look about him, but also a goofy side. With one ear up, long body and glossy coat he is a standout. He does need some manners training as he will jump on you, but with a sharp retort he was responsive. He also has his silly goofy side when it comes to toys. He would need to have strong rubber ones to play with. He does want to please and will sit for treats and take them gently. He didn’t show interest in other dogs, yet we do ask if there is another dog in the home to please ask the shelter for a dog test. He is rambunctious, enthusiastic, playful, fun loving, joyful, and friendly. He has a semi-strong pull on a leash. He will need a secured yard for his playtime but wants to spend time in the house, enjoying his new loving family.

Emma is a spry 12-year-old senior who defies her age. She’s unaware of her gray muzzle, only knowing she has plenty of love to give her future forever family. This 45-pound Border Collie mix was surrendered to the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 3/19 after her owner passed away. A vet check confirmed she’s in good health for her age. Her eyes are cloudy, possibly from cataracts or glaucoma, but she gets around just fine. According to her surrender form, she was both an indoor and outdoor dog, lived with other dogs, and got along well with them. She enjoys running and playing catch, though she can be food aggressive, so if you have another dog, feeding separately might be best. In her kennel, she was alert and curious, and in the yard, she explored thoroughly. When I sat on the bench, she came over, stood beside me, and gave gentle kisses. She responds to her name, behaves politely without jumping, and though she doesn’t seem to know “sit,” she walks nicely on a leash. Emma is ready for new adventures and precious moments, and at her age, she deserves the comfort of a climate-controlled home, soft blankets, and her own cozy bed.

Henry came to us as a young pup and was diagnosed with Megaesophagus. You can see by looking at him that it does not slow him down. The absolute only thing different between him and any other dog is that he has to eat on two feet. Everything else is normal. Eating on 4 feet is not an option for him. However, he can drink and have treats on 4. He is crate, house trained, and doggie door trained. He gets along well with all size of dogs as he has several foster siblings. He is very loving and affectionate and believe it or not is sensitive. When researching this condition, ask questions as not all cases are the same. His foster has had two different ME dogs and both are very different. He needs that special person who will look after him and make sure he stays and healthy and happy as he is now. He would love to have a playmate too.

He'd rather sit pretty for treats than run after sheep.Gordy is as handsome as they come! His right ear always stands at attention, while his left cocks to the side and a smile is stretched across his face. He loves to play tag in the yard with other dogs and tries to beat the neighboring dog to the end of the fence line. Raze is around 3 years old and I adopted her from Dallas Animal Shelter 2 years ago. She’s very energetic, sweet, and loves to cuddle. She’s very vocal, crate trained and will use potty pads. She does eat her toys so durable ones are better for her. Raze is the best I’m just not in the position anymore to give her the best home she needs. She loves cuddles and is very treat motivated.

Say hello to Angie, an Australian Cattle Dog mix that arrived on 3/30 picked up as a stray to the Mesquite Animal Shelter. Angie weighs 53 pounds and is about 2 years old. This sweet natured and friendly girl stays very close. She likes being near a human companion. She has a beautiful coat and is lively, active and alert, although not overly so. Angie knows the sit command, but when I offered her two different kinds of treats, she turned her nose up at them. She is well behaved, did her business outside and walked well on a leash. She does not jump on you. Australian Cattle Dogs are working dogs and we are so hoping someone will adopt or rescue her that knows the breed and will give her the kind of environment she needs. She looks like she’s been well cared. This gal is highly adoptable and would make some person or family a loving and devoted companion.

Vickie is a 3 to 4-year-old, 44-pound border collie mix who arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 3/14, brought in as a stray. She’s a gentle, sweet, affectionate, and well-mannered Southern girl with plenty of charm. A bit timid, she preferred to stay close rather than wander off. She sits for treats and takes them gently, and when I walked her back to her kennel, she walked between my legs—a sign she was seeking comfort. She enjoyed having her ears scratched and is truly a diamond in the rough. She did her business in the yard and let me know she’d love to get out for a stretch but would be happiest spending most of her time inside soaking up attention from her new family.

Pringle has show dog good looks with a personality to match! She is a 2-year-old 52 pound Australian Shepherd that was brought in to the Mesquite Animal Shelter as a stray on 4/17. I would say that she’s actually glamorous! When I first met her, she held back but her desire for human interaction won out. Soon her tail was wagging nonstop. She occasionally barks for some extra attention. She knows the sit and shake commands. She’s well trained and very obedient. She’s friendly, sociable, alert, active and sweet. She will rub her body up against you for extra closeness. She walks OK on a leash. She did her business when she got out into the yard. She’s a total love bug!! She likes to explore so having some outside time would be great, but she also likes to snuggle so would want to spend family time curled up at your feet in her own bed.
