Story
Riddle: What dog at the Mesquite Animal Shelter is cheerful, is medium sized with medium energy, and has freckles on her nose and toes? The answer is Alyce! She is a one year-old 60 pound Pointer mix that was brought into our shelter as a stray on 8/19. It looks like she’s been well cared for. She has an easy-going, fun-loving disposition. She appears to be smiling and her tail wags constantly. She’s friendly, enthusiastic, sociable, sweet, and affectionate. She occasionally jumps on you but gets down when told to do so. She loves to be in the presence of people and enjoys having her ears scratched. She did her business as soon as she got out into the yard. She walked ahead of me on the leash without pulling. She’s a special gal that would like to show you her playful side, get out to expend some of her energy and then come in the house for cuddles.

Story
Gordon enjoys life and everyone and everything in it! Gordon is a five month old black and white mostly Border Collie/Australian Shepherd/Great Pyrenees mix that weighs 44 pounds. He came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 8/24 as a stray. He appears to be well cared for. His coat is very clean and shiny. He’s also very fluffy and soft. He is joyous, friendly, peppy, outgoing, fun loving, playful, affectionate, and sweet. He wants to be close and since he’s an energetic puppy, he gets carried away and jumps on you. He is highly motivated by treats and sits for them although he doesn’t stay sitting for very long. He should be easy to train. He walks OK on a leash. Gordon will need frequent exercise and playtime along with a manners training to become the beautiful obedient dog he is meant to be! Are you up for the challenge?

Story
Henry came to us as a young pup and was diagnosed with Megaesophagus. You can see by looking at him that it does not slow him down. The absolute only thing different between him and any other dog is that he has to eat on two feet. Everything else is normal. Eating on 4 feet is not an option for him. However, he can drink and have treats on 4. He is crate, house trained, and doggie door trained. He gets along well with all size of dogs as he has several foster siblings. He is very loving and affectionate and believe it or not is sensitive. When researching this condition, ask questions as not all cases are the same. His foster has had two different ME dogs and both are very different. He needs that special person who will look after him and make sure he stays and healthy and happy as he is now. He would love to have a playmate too.

Story
Gordy is a fluffy cookie monster, trapped in the body of a Border Collie. He doesn't know how to herd livestock or chase balls. He'd rather sit pretty for treats than run after sheep.Gordy is as handsome as they come! His right ear always stands at attention, while his left cocks to the side and a smile is stretched across his face. He loves to play tag in the yard with other dogs and tries to beat the neighboring dog to the end of the fence line. Gordy may be a little slow when feeling at ease in new situations or with new people, but once he knows you're a good person, he'll think you're the bee's knees and want to be friends!Would you like to wake up to Gordy's smile every morning? Then contact OHAR to learn more about how to meet him!History: Gordy was turned into the Mesquite Animal shelter when found as a stray. Gordy is a happy, playful guy who is eager to please. He is crate trained graduated from obedience training where he was a star pupil.Adoption Process: After your application is approved, a home visit is schedule. We will bring the pet to you and help with introductions to your current pet(s). You will then have a week with the pet to ensure they are the right fit for your home. At the end of the week, you finalize the adoption and the pet is officially part of your family! Learn more at ohar.org/adoptionprocess

Story
Bear is from an accidental litter from McKinney. I received him at just 9 weeks old. He is the most loving and devoted dog I have ever met. He’s an extremely happy boy, who adores being loved and played with. He needs a yard and plenty of space to run, which I unfortunately just cannot give him. Bear is the world’s friendliest dog and would most likely do best at a home with kids and/or other dogs. It will break my heart to see him go, but he deserves the best quality of life possible.

She deserves a family who can give her lots of love, attention, and a great home with a yard. She is 8 months old and was at risk of being killed at another shelter before I adopted her.
