Hello, I'm Dodge. I have a heart full of sweetness and a mind buzzing with curiosity. My days are filled with exploring every nook and cranny of my world, always eager to learn something new. Sometimes, I might seem a bit shy, but that's just because I'm sizing up the situation, using my smarts to figure things out. Once I've made up my mind, my loyalty is unwavering. I'm also quite independent, happy to entertain myself, but always ready for a friendly pat. Adopt me, and you'll gain a loyal companion who will fill your life with sweetness and curiosity.

Story
Henry came to us as a young pup and was diagnosed with Megaesophagus. You can see by looking at him that it does not slow him down. The absolute only thing different between him and any other dog is that he has to eat on two feet. Everything else is normal. Eating on 4 feet is not an option for him. However, he can drink and have treats on 4. He is crate, house trained, and doggie door trained. He gets along well with all size of dogs as he has several foster siblings. He is very loving and affectionate and believe it or not is sensitive. When researching this condition, ask questions as not all cases are the same. His foster has had two different ME dogs and both are very different. He needs that special person who will look after him and make sure he stays and healthy and happy as he is now. He would love to have a playmate too.

Story
Gordy is a fluffy cookie monster, trapped in the body of a Border Collie. He doesn't know how to herd livestock or chase balls. He'd rather sit pretty for treats than run after sheep.Gordy is as handsome as they come! His right ear always stands at attention, while his left cocks to the side and a smile is stretched across his face. He loves to play tag in the yard with other dogs and tries to beat the neighboring dog to the end of the fence line. Gordy may be a little slow when feeling at ease in new situations or with new people, but once he knows you're a good person, he'll think you're the bee's knees and want to be friends!Would you like to wake up to Gordy's smile every morning? Then contact OHAR to learn more about how to meet him!History: Gordy was turned into the Mesquite Animal shelter when found as a stray. Gordy is a happy, playful guy who is eager to please. He is crate trained graduated from obedience training where he was a star pupil.Adoption Process: After your application is approved, a home visit is schedule. We will bring the pet to you and help with introductions to your current pet(s). You will then have a week with the pet to ensure they are the right fit for your home. Story
Penny is a wonderful, smart and playful border collie mix, about 4-5 years old. We adopted her from a rescue in Houston in 2019. During the pandemic, she began exhibiting some defensive behaviors (possessive of objects, not friendly to strangers at the home). We have done extensive training with her over the years and she is super smart and responsive to training. She loves mental stimulation. Penny is still not comfortable with strangers (non-family members) at our house and we are making the painful decision to rehome her because we now have two young kids and desperately need childcare assistance. However, Penny can be very friendly outside of our house (especially when we are not present). For example, she does daycare and boarding and loves playing with other dogs and staff members. We believe she would do best in a home that can help her learn to interact with strangers at home, can teach her crate training, or otherwise has space for her to relax separately away from guests.

Story
Five years ago I got a call from a friend who works at a shelter that a super sweet pup was going to be put down; ever since Cody has spoiled all the pets and cuddles. Unfortunately my landlord at the house I rent with friends has determined he should not allow pets on the property. For this reason I am reluctantly looking to rehome Cody as my friends and I have been unable to find a similar home in our area that will allow him.

Story
My dog has had a lot of trauma in her life. She was attacked by other dogs and hurt by other people. She is not well potty trained (uses puppy pads inside because I cant let her out during the day) and has some behavioral issues (chews on the couch and door ways but because of stress from no contact during the day), but she is super sweet. She needs owners that have time for her and can give her all their attention and love.

Australian Kelpie

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Meet Robin! She is a 1 yr old female Australian Kelpie mix that weighs 37.6 lbs. She came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter as a stray on 11/12. When she first came in she was underweight at 33lbs, scared and untrusting. Can't say I blame her as people were not kind to her. Since being at the shelter, we promised her we would take care of her and show she can have trust and confidence again. She took our words to heart and is much happier. Robin loves to romp around the shelter yard chasing balls and climbing on the equipment. She walks well on a leash, takes treats gently, knows the sit and paw commands. She didn't show any interest in the other dogs, but we do always ask if there will be another dog in the home to please ask the shelter for a dog test. Robin is also a big lovebug! She enjoys sitting close, being petted and will climb in your lap and give plenty of kisses. She has a gentle and loving heart, and such a sparkle in her eyes. She now hopes that she can find her own loving family that won't let her down again. One that will shower her with hugs and kisses, and a secured backyard for exercise and chasing balls. Most importantly she wants to be included in family activities, going for walks, and living inside cuddling close on the couch and falling fast asleep next to her human companions. Please come meet this wonderful girl!

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
This precious pooch is Ginger, listed as an Australian Cattle Dog picked up by one of our officers, along with three siblings on 2/19. Ginger weighs 18 pounds and is 5 months old. She is kenneled with one of her sisters. She has the most beautiful soulful brown eyes and the sweetest disposition and nature imaginable. She is a well-behaved girl, with a mellow personality. She loves treats and takes them gently. Ginger is an amiable girl, and very happily allowed me to pet and love on her. She walks fine on a leash, but when led past dogs that were barking at her she seemed intimidated. All of the siblings are so precious to interact with that they stole my heart! Ginger would make a terrific pet for some fortunate person or family. She will need daily playtime, exercise, and enrichment, as well as the teaching of some commands. She would love to live inside with her people and to be in important part of the family circle. As of 3/12/24 Ginger is staying in a foster home that has 2 small dogs, cats and chickens. She is doing well with respecting their space. If you would like to meet her please contact the shelter to arrange a meet n greet.

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
This high-spirited and fun-loving fellow is Barkley, listed as an American Blue Heeler picked up by one of our officers on 3/15 as a stray. Barkley weighs 51 pounds and is about 2 years old. This boy has tons of personality. He is excitable, playful, and a life-of-the-party kind of guy. He does jump on you in his excitement so that will need to be addressed. He is lively and active with a fairly high energy level (but not hyperactive). He does walk OK on a leash, but pulls in his exuberance. He knows the sit command. He has a confident and outgoing personality, and there is not one bit of nervousness or shyness about him. Barkley loves treats and will happily sit for them. He enjoys playing with toys and balls. He let me pet him without any issue. Barkley would seem to best suit a person or family with an active lifestyle. Do you have room in your heart and home for this boy?
