Meet Cody!! He is a 3yr old male Border Collie mix that weighs 34lbs. He came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 12/4 as a stray. Cody is such a gentle, kind and loving boy. He enjoys having his face petted, roll over for tummy rubs, will give you his paw, give kisses and loves kisses all over his face. All he wants to do be close to his family members. He hasn`t shown any interest in the other dogs barking at him. Those beautiful brown eyes staring at you, full of love, how can you not fall for him as I have. It is very clear to see how wonderful of a loving companion he would be to his own loving family. Being able to play in his own secured yard, then come back inside to be cuddling on the couch is what sweet Cody dreams of having.

This attractive girl is Duchess, a Border Collie/Husky mix surrendered along with another family dog to the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 3/12. Owners were negligent in keeping the dogs safely at home and they were often running the neighborhood so owners opted to surrender the dogs. Duchess weighs 64 pounds and is about 2 years old. This beauty has a beautiful coat and one blue eye/one brown eye. She walks nicely on a leash and is house trained. She knows the sit and paw commands. She is playful and high spirited. She loves treats and take him politely. Owners stated that she lived with and was fine with dogs. She lived with and was fine with children (ages 3 and 14). Duchess is NOT ok with cats. She has lived an outdoor life and next time around wants to live inside with her people in order to feel an integral part of the family as well as to be safe and secure. She had so much fun in the yard running around and enjoying being outside the confines of her kennel.

Meet Sebastian! He is a 2 yr old male mixed breed that weighs 69lbs. He is a very handsome boy and when using dog scanner it stated he may have a mix of Border Collie, Besenji, and Bull Terrier. He came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 10/27 as a stray. He has a majestic and regal look about him, but also a goofy side. With one ear up, long body and glossy coat he is a standout. He does need some manners training as he will jump on you, but with a sharp retort he was responsive. He also has his silly goofy side when it comes to toys. He would need to have strong rubber ones to play with. He does want to please and will sit for treats and take them gently. He didn’t show interest in other dogs, yet we do ask if there is another dog in the home to please ask the shelter for a dog test. He is rambunctious, enthusiastic, playful, fun loving, joyful, and friendly. He has a semi-strong pull on a leash. He will need a secured yard for his playtime but wants to spend time in the house, enjoying his new loving family.

Emma is a spry 12-year-old senior who defies her age. She’s unaware of her gray muzzle, only knowing she has plenty of love to give her future forever family. This 45-pound Border Collie mix was surrendered to the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 3/19 after her owner passed away. A vet check confirmed she’s in good health for her age. Her eyes are cloudy, possibly from cataracts or glaucoma, but she gets around just fine. According to her surrender form, she was both an indoor and outdoor dog, lived with other dogs, and got along well with them. She enjoys running and playing catch, though she can be food aggressive, so if you have another dog, feeding separately might be best. In her kennel, she was alert and curious, and in the yard, she explored thoroughly. When I sat on the bench, she came over, stood beside me, and gave gentle kisses. She responds to her name, behaves politely without jumping, and though she doesn’t seem to know “sit,” she walks nicely on a leash. Emma is ready for new adventures and precious moments, and at her age, she deserves the comfort of a climate-controlled home, soft blankets, and her own cozy bed.

Henry came to us as a young pup and was diagnosed with Megaesophagus. You can see by looking at him that it does not slow him down. The absolute only thing different between him and any other dog is that he has to eat on two feet. Everything else is normal. Eating on 4 feet is not an option for him. However, he can drink and have treats on 4. He is crate, house trained, and doggie door trained. He gets along well with all size of dogs as he has several foster siblings. He is very loving and affectionate and believe it or not is sensitive. When researching this condition, ask questions as not all cases are the same. His foster has had two different ME dogs and both are very different. He needs that special person who will look after him and make sure he stays and healthy and happy as he is now. He would love to have a playmate too.

This handsome boy is Reno, an Australian Kelpie mix that was brought in as a stray to the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 1/12. He weighs 36 pounds and is about 2 years old. Reno appears to have been nicely cared for. He knows the sit and paw commands (in fact he will give you both left and right paws). He is very sociable, friendly, affectionate, wants to climb into your lap and will give kisses. He is a charming, gentle, sweet, well-behaved boy who would doubtless make someone a wonderful companion. He does walk well on a leash. He played with several toys and balls in our meet and greet room. Reno is also quite the curious boy. In the yard, he had his nose to the ground and covered pretty much the entire area. He loves treats and takes them quite politely. He sincerely hopes that his stay at the shelter will be a short one and that a new person or family with step forward and adopt or foster and stay committed to him. Reno is a delightfully sweet, loveable and charming boy. He deserves to live as an inside dog spending time with his loving family.

Vickie is a 3 to 4-year-old, 44-pound border collie mix who arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 3/14, brought in as a stray. She’s a gentle, sweet, affectionate, and well-mannered Southern girl with plenty of charm. A bit timid, she preferred to stay close rather than wander off. She sits for treats and takes them gently, and when I walked her back to her kennel, she walked between my legs—a sign she was seeking comfort. She enjoyed having her ears scratched and is truly a diamond in the rough. She did her business in the yard and let me know she’d love to get out for a stretch but would be happiest spending most of her time inside soaking up attention from her new family.

This cutesy girl is CeCe, an American Blue Heeler mix brought as a stray to the Mesquite shelter 2/19. She weighs 40 pounds and is about 2 years old. There is so much to like about this girl, so where to begin? She is very alert! Outside, she enjoyed exploring the yard and seeing and smelling everything. She relishes lying on a soft, comfortable blanket, in a quiet environment. She is sweet, friendly, sociable, and has the most adorable smile! She let me pet her without any problem at all! I will say that she is a bit timid and nervous. She walks on a leash but hesitantly, possibly hasn`t had much training. She does not jump on you. She is calm and gentle and has a mellow personality. She hopes to find her final loving family where she lives indoors and being close to her human companions.
