Story
Stan absolutely loves and seeks attention and affection. He was so excited to be outside that he was almost beside himself and continually jumped on me. He just wanted to be acknowledged. After about five minutes he settled down and his true loving nature was on display. Stan is a one year old neutered 55 pound Border Collie/Alaskan Husky mix that arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 4/21. He is black and white with white spots and stand-up ears. He would like to go outside for walks and to play, but then come inside the home for family time! He will need some manners training to learn not to jump on you. He does sit and offers his paw (when he wants to). Stan loves life and anybody that will give him attention. He’s got a very cheerful devoted disposition! He has saved up an abundance of kisses for you! He has a strong pull on the leash. He did his business immediately when he got into the yard.

Story
If you’re not won over by Quincy‘s stunning good looks then you will be by his happy easy-going personality! Quincy is a one-year-old 58 pound border collie/St. Bernard mix that was brought into the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 6/22 as a stray. He’s a soft happy fluffy boy with brindle coloring, big freckles on his nose and soulful eyes. With all this fluff he will need frequent grooming. He’s tail wagging happy, calm and gentle and yet has a zip in a step. He is very curious indicating that he’s probably really smart. He’s also well behaved. He came when I called him, and he didn’t try to jump on me. At one point, I stood by the wall and he came and stood up beside me. He’s got a loving nature. He walked right beside me on a leash without pulling. He did his business when he got into the yard. He’s the total package! Can’t you just imagine how great it will be to snuggle with him on the couch?

Story
Vickie is a 3 to 4-year-old, 44-pound border collie mix who arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 3/14, brought in as a stray. She’s a gentle, sweet, affectionate, and well-mannered Southern girl with plenty of charm. A bit timid, she preferred to stay close rather than wander off. She sits for treats and takes them gently, and when I walked her back to her kennel, she walked between my legs—a sign she was seeking comfort. She enjoyed having her ears scratched and is truly a diamond in the rough. She did her business in the yard and let me know she’d love to get out for a stretch but would be happiest spending most of her time inside soaking up attention from her new family.

Story
Henry came to us as a young pup and was diagnosed with Megaesophagus. You can see by looking at him that it does not slow him down. The absolute only thing different between him and any other dog is that he has to eat on two feet. Everything else is normal. Eating on 4 feet is not an option for him. However, he can drink and have treats on 4. He is crate, house trained, and doggie door trained. He gets along well with all size of dogs as he has several foster siblings. He is very loving and affectionate and believe it or not is sensitive. When researching this condition, ask questions as not all cases are the same. His foster has had two different ME dogs and both are very different. He needs that special person who will look after him and make sure he stays and healthy and happy as he is now. He would love to have a playmate too.

Story
Gordy is a fluffy cookie monster, trapped in the body of a Border Collie. He doesn't know how to herd livestock or chase balls. He'd rather sit pretty for treats than run after sheep.Gordy is as handsome as they come! His right ear always stands at attention, while his left cocks to the side and a smile is stretched across his face. He loves to play tag in the yard with other dogs and tries to beat the neighboring dog to the end of the fence line. Gordy may be a little slow when feeling at ease in new situations or with new people, but once he knows you're a good person, he'll think you're the bee's knees and want to be friends!Would you like to wake up to Gordy's smile every morning? Then contact OHAR to learn more about how to meet him!History: Gordy was turned into the Mesquite Animal shelter when found as a stray. Gordy is a happy, playful guy who is eager to please. He is crate trained graduated from obedience training where he was a star pupil.Adoption Process: After your application is approved, a home visit is schedule. We will bring the pet to you and help with introductions to your current pet(s). You will then have a week with the pet to ensure they are the right fit for your home. Story
Kept indoors, Loves her crate. Crate trained for company visits and also trained not to get on beds or furniture when loose in home. Responds to hand signals for sit and lay down. Does not tear up things left out such as toys and clothes. Does not get on counters or beg at the table. Walks well on the leash unless another dog approaches. We found her during lock down roaming the streets at 6 months old. At that time she loved people and other dogs. We had her spayed and chipped. Unfortunately, she and I were attacked by a loose dog on a walk and she was seriously injured. After that, she does not like other dogs and I muzzle her for vet visits. Once someone is introduced, she loves guests. She has lived with cats but lately has gotten too jealous and intolerant towards our cat. I believe with the right training and exercise she would make someone happy. She is temporarily living with my elderly mom keeping her company and guarding her house but she is too much for her to bath.

Story
We adopted her 6 months ago from the animal shelter. She is high energy and we are in our late 60’s. We also travel regularly and have to leave her with dog boarder often. She is very sweet and loving but too much for us to handle. She can be protective and we often have workers at our home or people staying with us.

Story
Meet Annie! She is a 3yr old spayed female American Pitbull mix that weighs 40lbs. She came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter on as a stray 8/26/2025. She was adopted for one day but returned due to her very active playful manner. Yes, its true she is a spitfire! She loves to chase toys, doing zoomies in the play yard, and can be a bit mouthy with excitement. Once she runs out her energy she will sit right next you on the bench to be petted and will shower you with kisses. She does love treats but does not always take them gently so she will need additional training. She would do best with a person with an active lifestyle that can dedicate time to Annie to help her be the best pup she can be. She always has a big smile on her face and her tail wags non-stop. You can tell she wants to be your one and only pup in the home. With her energy level it maybe best. Please discuss with the shelter staff if you have another dog in the home so a dog test can be arranged. This super friendly lovebug can’t wait to find her own loving home. Can you please provide her with this?

Story
Meet Monet! He is a 2yr old neutered male 54lb multicolored Australian Cattle dog. He came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 6/1 as a stray. Its very clear to see he had a home and was well cared for, yet his family has not come to reclaim him. He is not only stunning but has a sweet gentle loving personality as well. He likes to be petted and loved on. I even gave him a kiss on his head. He walks very well on a leash can takes treats so gently, and I feel is housetrained. He hasn’t found any toys he likes, but I feel in time and the right toy he will. His tail is always up, being alert, curious, and will follow me around so he doesn’t miss out on anything. He and I both agree tho, being outside in a secured yard for a short time can be fun, but the best place is being indoors where it is cool, comfy, where he has his own dog bed to snooze on, or be cuddly with his human companions. He hasn’t shown any interest in the other dogs barking at him, yet we do always ask if there is another dog in the home to please ask the shelter for a dog test. This great pup deserves the life of luxury being showered with love and affection. Come spend some time with him.
