Story
Meet Chacana! Chacana is a 7.5-year-old tuxedo beauty with a sweet pink nose and wonderfully wide, quirky feet that make her extra unique (not polydactyl—just delightfully unusual!). She previously lived as an indoor/outdoor cat, spending her days splitting time between her home and visiting a nearby colony. When her family moved away, they sadly abandoned her, leaving her confused and heartbroken. Despite all she’s been through, Chacana remains incredibly gentle, loving, and hopeful. She is FIV+, but with proper care, FIV+ cats can live long, healthy, love-filled lives. What she wants now is a quiet, calm home where she can be cherished like the queen she truly is. Chacana is a gentle, sweet girl who loves the simple things in life. Her favorite toys are anything stuffed with catnip, and she absolutely melts for head and chin scratches. If you stop too soon, she’ll reach out with her paw to give you a soft, gentle tap—her adorable way of asking for more love. One of her favorite pastimes is climbing to the top of her tall cat tree so she can look out the front window and watch the world go by. She’s also an incredibly well-mannered kitty—she never scratches furniture or rugs and always uses the scratcher on her cat tree. In the evenings, Chacana likes to sit close by to keep you company. She’s not a lap cat right now and prefers not to be picked up, but she clearly enjoys being near her person and sharing quiet, peaceful moments. While she tolerates other cats, Chacana would truly shine as a solo queen, soaking up all the affection at her own pace. And because of her past and her health needs, her days outside are over—she must remain strictly indoors to stay safe and secure. If you’re looking for a calm, affectionate companion who will keep you company, gently ask for pets, and bring quiet warmth into your life, Chacana might be the perfect addition to your home. Adoption Fee: $235 Adoption fee includes spay/neuter and age-appropriate vaccines. Adoption Application: https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/HPCT-A-103

Story
Meet Sol! Sol is a 2-year-old calico tabby beauty—a true caliby—with a big personality and an even bigger heart. She was suddenly surrendered when her owners had to move due to landlord restrictions, and after all that upheaval, this stunning girl is ready for stability, love, and a home where she can finally thrive. Sol is the queen of the castle type—she wants to be your one and only. With her expressive calico‑tabby markings and unmistakable confidence, she fills any room with her presence. She loves her food, adores playtime, and purrs like a motor when she’s happy. Sol actively seeks out attention and enjoys being part of whatever you’re doing. But Sol is best suited for a cat-experienced home. Her big personality comes with big feelings, and she can become overstimulated—sometimes leading her to grab ankles without warning. Because of this, she cannot live with small children. She’s not mean—just spirited, sensitive, and still learning to trust after everything she’s been through. What Sol wants most is a calm, predictable home where she can feel safe and adored. She will bond deeply with the right person and reward them with affection, entertainment, and tons of character. If you’re a seasoned cat lover looking for a bold, loving, one‑of‑a‑kind companion, Sol is ready to light up your life. Story
Meet Xena and Her Brave Little Family Xena is a beautiful 3‑year‑old domestic shorthair brown tabby and a devoted mother to her precious litter of three kittens, Lime, Melon and Papaya, born on 2/8/26. This special family holds an incredibly meaningful place in our hearts—they were our very first rescue during our probationary period as a New Hope Partner, and we couldn’t imagine a more deserving group to begin this journey with. We first learned about Xena and her babies through an email that read: “JUST CAME IN! Young Mom Xena and her 3–7 week old Babies!” One look was all it took—we knew we had to help. Xena had been surrendered to Animal Care Centers of NYC (Staten Island) on 3/25/26, after a family loss made it impossible for her previous owners to continue caring for their cats. Through no fault of her own, Xena and her kittens suddenly found themselves in need of rescue. We officially requested them on 3/27 and four days later we picked them up in Brewster, NY, transporting them straight into foster care and safety. Xena is a quiet, gentle soul who prefers a calm environment and affection on her own terms. She may be shy at first and likes to choose when she’s ready to interact, but once she feels safe, she happily seeks out pets, head rubs, and gentle companionship—sometimes even settling in nearby or joining you for a cozy moment. She has lived with adults, children, other cats, and dogs and has proven to be tolerant and adaptable in the right setting. Xena does not enjoy being picked up or held, and she does best with a cat‑savvy adopter who respects her boundaries and allows her trust to grow naturally. As a mother, Xena has been attentive and loving, raising her kittens with care and patience. Her babies are now thriving—playful, curious, and full of kitten energy—each one ready to start their own happy chapter. This family’s story is a reminder of why rescue matters. Xena and her kittens are safe, loved, and now looking toward the bright futures they deserve. Adoption Fee: $235 Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, microchip and age-appropriate vaccines. Meet Toffee! (Female – Brown Spotted Tabby) Toffee is a beautiful brown spotted tabby girl with a curious heart and a love for high places. She was born safely indoors after Jessie was rescued from an abandonment situation, and she’s been cherished in foster care ever since. Shy at first, Toffee gains confidence by observing from above—she loves to perch on top of the dresser or lounge proudly on her scratching pad, watching the world like the little queen she is. Her curiosity leads her out of her shell, and with gentle encouragement (and treats!), she becomes playful, affectionate, and full of purrs. She just needs someone who will respect her pace and let her bloom. Adoption Fee: $285 Adoption fee includes spay/neuter and age-appropriate vaccines. Story
Meet Papaya (Female) Domestic Shorthair | Brown Tabby | DOB: 2/8/26 Papaya is a sweet, playful, people‑loving little girl with a gentle heart and a curious spirit. She enjoys everything kittenhood has to offer—exploring, playing, and soaking up affection whenever it’s available. Papaya has a wonderful balance of kitten energy and cuddle‑ready charm that makes her a joy to be around. Papaya came into NYC ACC (Staten Island) with her mom, Xena, and her brothers after being surrendered on 3/25/26 due to family circumstances beyond their control. Through no fault of their own, this young family found themselves in the shelter system at a very vulnerable time. Their story touched us deeply, and they became our first New Hope rescue during our probationary period. After requesting them on 3/27, four days later we picked them up and brought them directly to foster care, where Papaya has continued to blossom. Papaya would truly thrive being adopted with one of her brothers, Lime or Melon, or with her mom, Xena. Kittens do best when they grow up with a feline companion, and Papaya would love having a familiar friend to play, cuddle, and learn alongside. Meet Melon (Male) Domestic Shorthair | Brown Tabby | DOB: 2/8/26 Melon is a happy, adventurous, and outgoing kitten who greets life with curiosity and confidence. He loves to play, explore, and interact with people, making him a wonderful choice for anyone looking to add a fun, affectionate kitten to their family. Whether he’s pouncing on toys or checking in for attention, Melon brings nonstop smiles. Melon’s journey began at Animal Care Centers of NYC (Staten Island), where he arrived with his mom, Xena, and his siblings after being surrendered on 3/25/26 following a family loss that upended their world. When we saw them listed as “JUST CAME IN!”, we stepped up as a New Hope Partner, saving them as our very first rescue during our probationary period. We requested the family on 3/27, and four days later transported them through Brewster, NY and straight into foster care, where they have been thriving ever since. Melon would be happiest adopted with one of his siblings, Lime or Papaya, or with his mom, Xena, giving him the comfort of a familiar companion and adopters the joy of watching a bonded relationship grow.
