Story
Pluto was adopted by my brother, 2 weeks out of the litter. He only provided basic provisions like feeding her, giving her a littler box and affection. This did not include any vet visits, I got her spayed at 3 years old, her only vet visit. This was not the right home for Pluto. She was kept mainly in his room, my mother didn’t want a cat and constantly spooked her or got loud with and shooed her aggressively (never physically hurt her) to try and get her to stay off of furniture and such. My brother then left her behind in my other brothers care, he took better care of her, but was barely home, she was alone often. And he’s moved as well now. She’s not socialized and gets spooked and triggered easily and bites at the ankle or attacks randomly. Never anything severe. She’s a sweet cat, but she needs someone experienced. She’s very cautious, shy, and mistrusting. But she’s very curious and while I believe in the right home, she will thrive. I feel for her and want what’s best for her..

Story
Meet Storm!Male/Neutered Age: 7 Months Adoption Fee: $350Storm arrived at WARL on 1/24/26; the day after the Winter Storm of 2026! And that’s how he earned his name. He was spotted in a backyard and had to be safely trapped before coming to the shelter. At first, Storm seemed simply frightened, but we’ve since realized he may have grown up with very little human interaction.Right now, Storm is living in a cozy “condo” in the front of the rescue where he can safely watch the world go by. He sees and hears people every day, and our staff spend time gently visiting, talking, and offering play sessions to help him build trust. And we’re already seeing small signs of curiosity peek through.Storm isn’t your typical outgoing kitten. He’s a project with a big heart waiting to bloom. For the right adopter, there is something incredibly special about earning the trust of a shy kitty and watching him transform at his own pace. If you’re patient, compassionate, and understand that love is sometimes a slow and beautiful process, Storm could be your perfect match. We didn’t want to leave him off our available list simply because he needs a little extra understanding. There are amazing adopters out there who find joy in helping a shy kitten discover that the world and people can be safe.Walk-in Adoption Hours:Mondays, Wednesdays & Thursdays -12:00–4:00 PMIf those times don’t work, simply fill out the Adoption Inquiry Form on our website (under the FORMS tab), and we’ll gladly schedule a meet-and-greet that fits your schedule.Come meet Storm, sometimes the quietest kitties have the most powerful stories.

Story
Say Hello to Rex!Male/Neutered Adoption Fee: $145 Age: 2 years, 7 monthsCheck out those eyes! Rex is an absolute hunk of a cat with soft, shining grey fur and a gaze that stops you in your tracks. He was brought in by a man who could no longer keep him. We don’t know much about his past, but we do know he came from a non-English-speaking home, which may make everything feel even more confusing and overwhelming for him right now.Rex is a bit fearful, and that’s completely understandable given all the changes he’s been through. With patience, consistency, and a calm environment, we believe he’ll blossom into a wonderful companion. He’ll do best in a quiet home, without other pets, and with older, respectful children who understand how to give him space as he adjusts.Rex is the kind of cat who will reveal his personality slowly, and watching him grow comfortable will be incredibly rewarding. With the right person, he’s going to become something truly special.Walk-in hours are Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 12:00–4:00 PM.If those times don’t work, just fill out the Adoption Inquiry Form on our website under the FORMS tab, and we’ll gladly arrange a meet-and-greet that fits your schedule.

Story
Meet Goose Age: 5 yearsFemale / Spayed Adoption Fee: $145Goose is a tender, quiet soul who has been through more than most cats her age. A caring neighbor had been looking out for her for quite some time, making sure she had food and a friendly face, as her previous home could no longer provide the care she needed. Thanks to that kindness, Goose is now safe at WARL and ready for a fresh start.Because she spent years feeling unsure and overlooked, Goose is understandably shy right now. She’s still learning that people can be gentle, consistent, and trustworthy. With patience and a calm environment, she has every chance to blossom into a loving, loyal companion. She just needs someone willing to show her what safety feels like.Goose would thrive in a quiet home with one or two devoted people who can give her the time, space, and steady affection she needs to build confidence. For now, she should be the only pet in the home, though once she’s settled and secure, she may be able to meet another calm animal in the future. If you’re someone who finds joy in helping a shy cat come out of her shell, Goose might be the perfect match. She’s waiting for the person who will finally make her feel seen, safe, and cherished.Walk-in adoption hours: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 12:00–4:00 PM.Can’t make those times? Simply fill out an online Adoption Inquiry Form, let us know what works for you, and we’ll be happy to arrange a visit.
