Story
Artificial Flavor is a scared kitten, but when his foster holds him, he tends to calm down and will cuddle and interact with her. He is what we call a “tiny spirit kitten.” Can you help this boy come out of his shell? The kitten you are adopting is very shy. Patience and a gentle approach will be necessary to form a bond and help this kitten feel that they are safe in their new environment. This means that the kitten is likely to not want to interact with you at first and will need time to settle in and relax. It is likely to take weeks to months for this kitten to become comfortable in your home. Even once settled, they may always be a shy cat who runs from visitors. In order to have the best chance at creating a lasting bond with your new kitten, you must go at their pace. When you get home, this kitten should be set up in one room of your home, with a door that will stay shut while the kitten adjusts. They should be offered a variety of foods and plenty of appropriate hiding places to help them feel safe during this transition. The kitten should not be let out of their room until they seem like they are making progress and seem to want to explore more of the house. Ready to Adopt a Kitten? You have two options: #1- VISIT IN PERSON Come during our open adoption hours: Tuesday - Saturday,12:30 - 3:00pm. You’ll be able to meet available kittens in the shelter. (Kittens in foster care are not available for in-person visits.) #2- ADOPT SIGHT UNSEEN If you’re ready to adopt without meeting the kitten first, we can help over the phone or by email. (413) 781-4000 x 1 springfield@dakinhumane.org. We are often helping other clients when you call, but we return voicemails and emails within 24 hours. Kittens are adopted on a first come, first served basis, and we’re not able to place holds on them. All kitten adoption fees include; -spay/neuter -rabies vaccination (if over 12 weeks of age) -current on distemper vaccines (will need additional boosters with your veterinarian) -FeLV blood test -microchip implanted & registered to the adopter -treatment of fleas/ticks/ear mites -veterinary exam and health certificate at Dakin -free vet exam within 30 days after adoption with participating veterinarians Most pets have also received other medical care while with us. Your veterinarian may recommend additional health care for your new pet.
