Story
Cheeto has been growing up in foster care alongside her brother, Goldfish, and she has been an absolute delight. Just like her brother, she has that perfect balance of playful kitten energy and a calm, easygoing personality. Her foster says the two of them are some of the calmest kittens they’ve ever cared for — active and curious, but never over-the-top. Cheeto loves to explore, play, and be part of whatever is going on, but she carries herself with a gentle, steady demeanor that makes her extra special. And then there’s her adorable face — the kind that absolutely demands a smooch right on it. One look at her sweet expression and you’ll be completely smitten. If you’re looking for a kitten who is playful yet calm, affectionate yet easygoing, and completely irresistible, Cheeto might just be your perfect match. Ready to Adopt a Kitten? Story
Goldfish has been growing up in foster care alongside his sister, Cheeto, and he’s truly been a joy to watch blossom. While he’s still a playful, curious kitten, he has one of the calmest, sweetest demeanors his foster has ever seen. However he is also the perfect mix of playful fun! Goldfish loves to explore and play like any kitten, but he also carries himself with a soft, easygoing nature that makes him extra special. He settles nicely, enjoys attention, and has such a peaceful presence about him. And let’s talk about that face — because it truly demands a smooch right on it. With his adorable features and sweet expression, it’s almost impossible not to lean in for a kiss. He’s the kind of kitten who will melt your heart in seconds. If you’re looking for a kitten who is playful but not wild, affectionate but not overwhelming, and absolutely precious in every way, Goldfish might just be your perfect match. Story
Meet Nena! After spending time in foster care raising her kittens (who are also up for adoption), this sweet mama is ready to be the one getting all the attention. Her foster dad shared that Nena was a little shy at first, but it didn’t take long for her personality to shine. Once she felt comfortable, she turned into an incredibly sweet and affectionate girl. Nena comes when she’s called, greets you when you walk into the room, and will happily trot over to say hello with the softest little chirps and meows — almost like she’s having a conversation with you. She’s quiet, gentle, and very loving. Nena adores pets and neck rubs, and she’ll give you the cutest head boops to politely ask for more attention. She has such a tender way about her that makes every interaction feel special. If you’re looking for a calm, affectionate companion who will greet you with sweet little “words” and loving head nudges, Nena may be your perfect match. She’s done an amazing job raising her babies — now it’s her turn to be spoiled. Change is hard for this cat. This cat will be very nervous when you first bring them home. You will need to set up a room with a litter box, food, and water. It will take days for this cat to become comfortable and confident in the new home. This cat will be going home with a behavior plan that will need to be followed in order for everyone to transition successfully. Ready to Adopt? You have two options: #1- VISIT IN PERSON Come during our open adoption hours: Tuesday - Saturday,12:30 - 3:00pm. You’ll be able to meet available cats in the shelter. Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Ethan is a six month old male kitten, up to date on vaccines and neutered. He needs to find a home with another playful cat friend. Here’s what his foster volunteer says about him:  How would you describe the cat's general personality? Ethan is very cute, but on the shyer side. He’s a sweet little baby who loves to play, but he needs to learn that he can trust humans. He has recently really started to come out of his shell and likes to play! Does the cat enjoy being pet? We’re getting there! When he's laying down on my bed, or snuggled in a cat tower cubby, he's become quite easy to calmly approach and finally let's me pet him. He’s starting to really make progress.   If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? He’s let us pet him when he's sleepy, he seems to like his back being pet. He has started to appreciate ear rubs too! He needs a gentle approach, but he does seem to enjoy back & head pets once he knows he's safe!  Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? We kinda don't know yet! He lets me touch his tail, paws, back, and ears so far!   Does the cat come on your lap? Not yet but his brother was a snuggle bug who was once just as shy, so I have a lot of hope that he will be a cuddly baby too.   Does the cat like to be held? Not yet! He squirms. But with enough patience, i know he'll be so snuggly.  Does the cat sleep in your bed? Yes, but he keeps a few feet of distance from the humans. He loooooves to snuggle my cats on the bed though. And he has started to let me pet him and even rub his little belly when he's on the bed!    Does the cat seek your attention? Not exactly but if I bring out catnip or a wand toy, he gets excited! He loves churu and will tentatively eat some from my hands haha. He follows me into the bathroom and seems to want me to pay attention to him sometimes, but mostly he just loves my other cats lol.  Does the cat like to play? Yes! Ethan is incredibly playful. He is spunky, sassy, and full of energy! He can make a game out of anything, and he does so very independently! What are the cat's favorite games and toys? Ethan loves wand toys! He'll play with one on his own, or with us, for hours if allowed haha. He loves anything with a string, and gets crazy zoomies every morning.  How vocal is the cat? Ethan likes to yell sometimes! He'll wander around just meowing occasionally lol. Its so cute, I think its him asking for attention but he’s a quirky little guy   What kinds of sounds does the cat make? He has a cute, sweet little baby meow! He churps and trills and makes funny little kitten noises when he pounces at things.  Does the cat scratch a scratcher? Yes, he has sisal scratcher towers that he loves immensely. He really likes to scratch!  Does the cat always use the litter box? Yes! Ethan is great with the litter box, and has been since I started fostering him.   What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? Is the cat picky about food? Any kind of kitten dry food is fine for him, and he loves fancy feast kitten pate.  What is the cat's favorite treat? He really loves churu! If the vibe is right, he'll even eat it right from me!  Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? No never!  Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? Nope! Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? Honestly, surprisingly with how shy he is, no. He’s very chill and pretty calm even when he gets scared.  Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? Nope! He's very sweet.   To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? He’s a little fearful and will hide until he realizes the new person isn't leaving, or dangerous. Then he'll come out and do his normal kitten stuff. He’s been making so much progress though lately, and actually hasn't been hiding much at all around new people.    If you have observed the cat with other animals, please describe how they get on? Ethan loves cats so much. He even seems very interested in making friends with my dog! He's definitely social and friendly and playful with other animals. I think another playful cat would be his best friend. My younger boys and Ethan go crazy playing together!  Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? He’s goofy! He's honestly really goofy. He's so silly and loves to have fun. He's recently started attacking my feet when they hang off my bed and he's underneath it he can make anything into a game, he even tried dragging a balloon under my bed yesterday LOL    In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? Ethan has such a cute, goofy personality. He’s a beautiful, sweet little guy. He just needs the right person and I KNOW he'll come out of his little shell. If you're wanting a gorgeous, unique, funny little kitty, but you're also willing to put in some work with socializing them, Ethan is perfect for you. He will be the best cat, I just know it. He just needs a little help getting there! I think Ethan just needs someone who sees his potential. He seems to discover himself more and more every day, and I promise that putting in the work is SO worth it with him. I've had him since Halloween, and watching him grow, loving him, teaching him how to trust... its been amazing. If you love an "underdog", you'll love Ethan.   What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? Ethan is quite shy and skittish, as mentioned. But every day he seems to become a little bit braver, a little bit more confident. He just needs the right person to show him it’s okay to be friends with humans. And to really teach him how to accept love. He’s a perfect little boy who just needs time, and patience.    To learn more about adopting this cat in Massachusetts, please visit www.blackcatrescue.com or fill out an Adoption Profile at https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston.  February 20, 2026, 8:52 am
