Shar Pei Pit Bull Terrier

House-trained, Spayed or Neutered, Shots are up-to-date,
Story
Characteristics: Wesley (also known as Wessie) is a loving, goofy and loyal boy. He loves hugs and cuddles, rolling in the dirt, and playing with his dog besties. We believe he is a bone-mouth sharpei mix due to his black tongue and gums. Wesley would make a great addition to any family, or just as someone's adventure buddy. Background: Wesley grew up in a home, where he was eventually surrendered due to a baby being born in the family. There was an account of Wesley guarding the baby from the parent, although we don’t know exact details about the situation. Wesley has been shown to be protective of women, as well as female dogs in his time here at Como, but has never resource guarded a person in our care. Current progress: Wesley has made so much progress here, from no interaction with other dogs previously, to now spending everyday with his dog best friends. He is still a little nervous meeting male dogs. He has responded very well to building his confidence, and is now non reactive, having calm interactions with strangers. Cat tested: Can be tested. Kids: All ages, meet and greet (can be nippy when playing). On leash: Wesley is a puller, but receptive to corrections. We would recommend a front pull harness, which he is a lot better on. Behavior concerns: Potentially playing rough with another dog in the home, or stress redirection. When playing, he can get nippy when overly excited (usually goes for pants). Training receptiveness: Wesley has a great drive to please, and his breeds really make a great mix of a calm protector. He can take a little while to process things however, but is still very easy to work with when training. When you adopt a dog from Como Animal Works, you are provided free boarding as a courtesy and comfort of the dog being familiar with our facility. We also provide free training sessions on-site or at the home while the dog is transitioning to home life. Our goal is to help keep dogs out of overcrowded shelters and provide much needed dog socialization during that time.

Story
Characteristics: Milo has shown to be a very sweet, lazy boy. If he had it his way, he'd be laying in the sun all day, preferably with his dog besties. We believe his is a Great Dane mix due to his long face and body, as well as the tone of his bark. He is socialized with both people and dogs, but can be uneasy meeting dogs who are nervous or standoffish. Background: Milo came to us as a shelter bypass dog from PACC, at only six months old. His background is unknown, but shows some characteristics of being taken from the litter too early. He has been with us for a year and a half now, waiting for his forever home. Current progress: Milo has been around a lot of other dogs at Como, but has a hard time adjusting to the constant stimulus. He has undergone basic obedience training (sit, stay, no), and will wait for his food very politely. He is crate trained, and potty trained. Cat tested: Upon request Kids: Older children, young children upon request On leash: Can pull, very receptive to training. Behavior concerns: Milo is food excitable, different to resource guarding, but still should be separated from other dogs in the home when feeding. He is also very puppy-like in his play language, likely due to being separated from the litter too early. He can be a little nippy when excited but has not shown intent to escalate the behavior. Training receptiveness: Very high food drive, high toy drive. Can be a bit puppy-like during play. When you adopt a dog from Como Animal Works, you are provided free boarding as a courtesy and comfort of the dog being familiar with our facility. We also provide free training sessions on-site or at the home while the dog is transitioning to home life. Story
Characteristics: Achilles is a eager, loving, and loyal boy. He absolutely loves hoses, and chasing lizards. He would be content with a quiet home, or minimal exercise, although he is a shepherd mix. He would love to be around water or have access to swimming. Background: Achilles came to us through our foster program with Pinal county. He was on the priority foster list due to having a bite record from his previous surrender. The circumstance of the bite was unknown, but assumed to be from a loud noise scaring him or being aggressed by the previous owner. Due to changes in the Pinal county insurance policy, we have adopted Achilles to avoid euthanasia. Current progress: Achilles came to us with stranger danger, assumably from shelter stress. He has made a lot of progress interacting with new people as well as dogs. He is still hyper-sensitive to noises and movements, but has learned how to interact with that stress appropriately. Achilles has also undergone basic obedience classes, and is crate trained. Cat tested: Not recommended (prey drive) but can be tested. Kids: Older children with meet and greet only. On leash: Minor pulling on leash, very receptive to training. Behavior concerns: With his hyper-sensitivity, loud noises and fast movements should be limited in the home while he is transitioning to home life. He will most likely need a structured process to introducing strangers in the home at first to be more comfortable. Training receptiveness: High food drive, minimal toy drive. He has been very easy to work with in training and is easy to leave it when barking, even with the hose, which is his favorite. He is eager to please, especially if you are his person.

Story
ADOPTION PENDING MEDICATION:** Champion was literally shutting down and near death at 23 Ibs. He is now a healthy 62 Ibs and has fully recovered following direct hands on daily care and love. Champion is a sweet and sensitive soul and needs a person that is equally as such. He will offer his paw, sit and lay down for treats. He's a good boy that gets along with all other resident canines and seems to be quite intuitive to the needs of others. As our senior dog was rapidly declining, Champ sat by him as if watching over him and keeping him company. He then went and got his most prized possession a toy and brought that over to lay in front of him. He LOVES his toys, especially his nylar bone and rope toys. He loves to cuddle up on the couch and is just a little tank. He is fully recovered from his past ordeal, but requires a grain free diet. We are seeking a person, couple or family that will integrate him into their own as an indoor family companion. Although he can be left alone without issue, we are seeking someone who can spend time with him. He loves walks, car rides, did we mention cuddling on the couch....and loves it when you talk to him and tell him about your day. He listens as if he really cares and understands. Lifetime commitment only, lifetime of love guaranteed in return.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 5, 2025, 1:49 pm

Story
HOLD / PENDING Gypsy is a very intelligent, loyal girl who loves to play tag with other dogs. She knows all her basic commands and is extremely affectionate with people she trusts. She can get anxiety when outdoors on walks if there is traffic or loud noises. We believe this is because she was caught in a trap and her first real interactions with people was a traumatic experience.  She acts as the "welcome committee" for new dogs coming into our rescue and seems nurturing of the younger ones - showing them the ropes. She is very intuitive and has all of the behavior traits one would expect with a Carolina Dog.  We would anticipate her going to a new home and environment to be a daunting experience for her at first so a person who is breed familiar and willing to be patient and build trust on her terms is needed. Gypsy also loves other canine companionship and being part of a pack so a home with at least one other dog would be required for adoption.  Applications for adoption can be submitted at lovar.orgVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 5, 2025, 1:49 pm

Story
A cuddler and social butterfly! This big boy is a big love. He is a happy boy, low maintenance, enjoys hiking, walking , car rides, massages and ice-cream cones.  He will follow you around, lay by you, walk nicely on leash and crash on a bed or couch (a little snoring may be included).  George came to us from a county shelter. They said he was aggressive with other dogs. We never saw that, and he has been very friendly with a large male dog, but as a precaution, we would recommend he be the one and only canine family member.   He likes the outdoors but wants to be with you so he is looking for an indoor home where he can provide and have companionship.  He has lived with other dogs, did well with mindful, considerate older kids. George does not like cats. He is our trainers favorite and comes with continued free training.
