Story
Reba is a very sweet, active, and energetic girl. We found her at the Dublin shelter, where she had been for 5.5 months. They thought she was having seizures. We've finally been able to get her in to UC Davis for a neurological exam. Her "episodes" are not seizures. It seems she has some damage or deficit in her cerebellum, we think she was possibly grazed by a car. She has these "episodes" intermittently, and after resting for about 5 mintues, she is good to go again. No medications or treatments needed. Other than that, she is very healthy and loves to fetch and run. She will sit and wait for her food or for her crate door to be opened. She would make a great walking or running companion. She’s great with animals that won’t run from her. She gets along with our older small dogs and would play well with another dog her size or bigger. She’s looking for a home of her own and her own person, where she can get attention and exercise and love. Will you be her person? Please contact us if you'd like to ask any questions and/or meet Reba!

Story
Introducing Detective Porter! This boy’s favorite literary character is Sherlock Holmes and he likes to emulate his hero by solving all the local mysteries… using nothing but his nose! Porter is a handsome, fluffy shepherd mix who spends his days leisurely reading the various pee-mails and hidden smells that the world has to offer. When he is not exploring his environment, this sweet boy will come up to for affection. He will lay his head in your lap, he will nudge you gently with his hand. Porter is a sensitive soul who needs both a confident and compassionate family to give him the structure he needs to be feel secure and happy. Porter came from Manteca Shelter where he was in danger of euthanasia due to stress in the scary shelter environment. He was found as a stray and while not much is known about his past, he is thriving outside of the shelter and will be an ideal member for many families. For a shepherd, he is low to moderate energy with low drive. Porter is dog-friendly and generally non-reactive even when other dogs around him are barking and lunging. He is a respectful boy who helps even fearful or over-excited dogs to calm down with his presence. Porter does not currently live with cats, so we are unsure how he will be with him. We have not yet seen any signs of a high prey-drive, so he may be trainable with cats. We have not yet observed Porter with children, however older children may be fine as he continues to learn his manners. Porter is working on learning his manners, but is food-motivated and easily corrected with an experienced handler. He is currently working on not jumping up/humping his friends as well as how to walk nicely on the leash. When Porter is stressed out, he can display mild resource guarding however this behavior reduces as he feels comfortable in the environment overall. This is currently being addressed by throwing treats towards him whenever he is eating, a technique which may need to be practiced when he first settles into an adoptive home but generally resolves such mild cases of guarding easily. Porter has been sponsored to receive 2x private sessions or a 7-week group training in the San Joaquin area to help adopters be successful (at no additional cost to adoption fee). Porter will be neutered, vaccinated and microchipped prior to adoption. If you would like to meet Porter to see if he is a good fit for your family, please fill out an adoption application.

Story
Chanell is a sweet, young, athletic, loyal and extremely intelligent companion for you. She is less than 3 years old, potty trained, recently spayed and up to date with her vaccinations. She has had flea and heartworm medications. She follows commands and intuitively understands what is expected of her. Unleashed she comes on command. She sits and shakes. Within 2 days of being introduced to her new foster home she learned to tap the bell to tell her foster that she needed to go potty. Chanell loves to play with balls and chewing on cheeses. She loves to play fetch at the park and is friendly to strangers and other dogs. At home she can be mellow and is content to chew on her ball while sitting next to her human. Chanell will also protect your home. She was saved by Ruff Day Rescue from being euthanized at the Stanislaus shelter. What a fantastic girl to add to your family!

Story
Hi my name is Serenity. I was found wandering the streets of Porterville very skinny and very pregnant. I gave birth in the shelter. Two weeks later my puppies and I were moved to a foster home. I love being outdoors and chasing balls, birds, and rodents. I do come back to the house when called. I've never been around cats. I'm great with other dogs, male and female. I'm pretty obedient for a young husky and with some consistent training I will be an excellent companion. Right now I'm still nervous about being left alone so a crate or kennel would help me stay out of trouble.
