Story
Thank you for your interest in Hubert. He is such a fun loving, energetic, happy, barky boy. He loves people and dogs and life. Some of it he loves a little too much. Well, not too much for him but too much for other dogs. But he is really just a softee who wants to run and play and be chased. Hubert hasn't had the best start in life. He was sold to an elderly owner who wasn't able to manage a happy, energetic dog so Hubert landed in a day care/boarding facility. His owner wasn't able to take him back and the really sad things started happening. He was sold, returned, sold, returned and finally someone took him to the vet. Hubert was really matted and was finally groomed. It was then discovered that he had a terrible ear infection and an infected toe! Once again people had failed him. Off to the vet he went and as soon as he received treatment he felt so much better and his happy came out! He went to live with another family and they really loved him but underestimated how much energy is required when you have a dog like Hubert so SPIN was called. Hubert is just the kind of dog we love! Running, bouncing, barking, playing, snuggling, hugging, what could be better?

Story
Jean-Pierre (JP) is a striking three-year-old Standard Poodle who has made remarkable progress since being found abandoned in Quebec. When he first arrived at the shelter, he was frightened, in pain from an untreated ear infection, and unsure of people. With care, patience, and medical treatment, he started to heal — both physically and emotionally — and showed the sweet, loyal nature that defines him today.

Story
Mags is a young, bright, emotionally big Standard Poodle who has had a busier start to life than most. She grew up in homes that cared about her, but none were quite equipped to manage her energy, her enthusiasm, or her tendency to become overstimulated. After finding herself in a shelter—confused, over-aroused, and unsure how to channel all her excitement—Mags came into SPIN’s care so she could finally get the structure and support she has always needed. She is an affectionate, social girl with a lot of love to give, but she experiences the world at full volume. New places, new people, and outdoor environments can cause her arousal to spike quickly, which leads to jumping, grabbing, and mouthy behaviour. None of this comes from a place of aggression—Mags simply hasn’t been shown how to regulate her emotions.

Story
Meet Swag 🤍 Swag (aka Swaggy) is a 1-year-old, 10-pound poodle mix looking for his forever home. Swag is a very loving velcro dog that bonds fiercely to his person. He is great with other dogs (with a slow introduction) He can be a bit anxious when left alone, so he’ll do best with someone patient who is home most of the time and can help him continue building his confidence. He is still in his puppy era and doing so incredibly well with potty training. He is good on walks and enjoys sniffing and exploring the outdoors. He’ll occasionally bark at a passerby human or dog, but can also slowly greet them given the chance. He is VERY food motivated, and will do great with training with treats and positive reinforcement. Swaggy is also the biggest cuddle bug. He loves cuddling in his foster mom’s lap and being as close as possible. He just melts right into you and stays that way. He is also great with handling - wiping his paws, putting on his harness, having a bath - he will patiently get through it all. He has definitely found his voice in his foster home, so like many doggos, he will bark if he hears someone in the doorway or if he hears a noise that startles him, but he will not bark for long. Overall, Swag is a sweet, loyal little dog who just wants stability, reassurance, and someone to call his own. If you’re looking for a small companion who will truly attach to you and be by your side, Swag could be your guy. Swag is being fostered downtown Toronto. ••••••••• As my foster family gets to know me my profile can change and will be updated accordingly. Check back often for details! An application for me can be found at www.justpaws.ca. Just Paws is located in the Greater Toronto Area of Ontario, Canada. We do not adopt out of province or country. Please note that although many of our dogs get along with children, we are not able to adopt to any household with kids under the age of 8 years old. This is a stipulation of our insurance and is not a reflection on suitability of the potential adopter.

Story
Hi there… I’m Hazel I’m 8 years old, about 40 pounds, and I’m a pretty clever girl — even if I do say so myself. My family did a DNA test and found out I’m a mix of five different breeds — a real blend of a few wonderful breeds! But the ones that really stand out are my Australian Cattle Dog and Bulldog roots. That’s where my strong herding instincts come from. I’m naturally alert, aware, and always tuned in to what’s happening around me. It’s just how I’m wired. Six years ago, Just Paws Animal Rescue placed me with a wonderful family who has loved me so very much. This decision hasn’t been easy for them — it’s truly heartbreaking. They’ve done everything they can to help me succeed, but they’ve come to realize that I would be happiest and most at peace as the only dog in the home. So they’re working closely with the rescue to find me the very best possible match — a home where I can fully relax and thrive. I bond deeply with my people. I’m loyal, devoted, and love being near you — but I’m also independent. I’m happy to settle on my dog bed and enjoy my own space when it’s time to unwind. I feel my best when life is calm, predictable, and structured. Whenever I’ve stayed with Grandma (she doesn’t have any dogs), everyone notices how much more relaxed and content I am. That’s how they know for sure — I truly shine as the only pet. I just don’t enjoy sharing my space with other animals, and that’s okay. I’m meant to be someone’s one and only. Walks are one of my strengths. I’m great on leash and don’t pull, but I love to stop and smell. As long as I’m given space and not expected to interact with other dogs, I handle my walks beautifully. I also love to play fetch — toss a ball and I’m all in. It’s one of my favourite ways to burn energy and bond with you. I’m also a lover of the sun. Any time you miss me, you’ll find me sunbathing in a patch of sunlight. When I’m calm, I’m a fantastic listener. I know sit, stay (especially when you’re wiping my feet), give paw, and “go to bed.” I like having clear expectations — it makes me feel safe and confident. I’m fully house trained and perfectly comfortable being left alone. I can relax quietly at home and don’t struggle with separation anxiety. I’m healthy, active, and have no physical limitations. I love chewing on my bones, enjoying salmon treats, going for car rides, and of course playing fetch. Even though I’m not comfortable with other animals, I have never shown aggression toward people. My dream home would be an all-adult household with no other pets and a fully fenced yard where I can safely run and play. Someone who understands herding breeds would be wonderful. But most of all, I need a calm, steady person who will give me regular exercise, mental stimulation, and clear, loving boundaries. I’m being fostered in Waterloo. If you’re looking for a loyal, intelligent companion who will bond deeply with you and truly flourish as your one and only, I might just be your girl! ••••••••• As my foster family gets to know me my profile can change and will be updated accordingly. Story
Meet NIKKI: At 13 years old and just 10 pounds, Nikki the Maltipoo is the definition of a little lap dog. She spent her whole life very loved, but sadly her mom became very sick and can no longer care for her. Now Nikki is hoping someone will open their heart and give her a soft, loving place to land for her golden years. Nikki is being fostered in Toronto. Nikki is the sweetest girl and a true companion. She’s friendly, though it can take her a little time to fully trust new people. Once she feels safe, she bonds very deeply and will happily curl up beside you — or better yet, on your lap — whenever she gets the chance. Because Nikki loves her people so much, she does have separation anxiety and will cry when you leave. She truly just wants to be near her people and doesn’t enjoy being alone for long. Nikki does get stressed when in new environments or places like the vet so our vets have recommended use of a mild anti-anxiety meds for those kind of occasions. For a senior, Nikki is in good health with no red flags. She will be having a dental soon and we anticipate she may need several teeth removed, which is very common for little dogs her age. Like many white fluffy pups, she will also need regular grooming and a bit of care to keep her face free of tear stains. Nikki walks nicely on leash and enjoys short strolls, but she’s also perfectly happy being a homebody. Nikki is housetrained and also pee pad trained. She previously lived in a condo and did well there, though she will bark if she hears noises. Nikki is good with other dogs but isn’t interested in playing with them — she’d much rather spend her time with her people. She would likely also be fine with a dog-savvy cat. What Nikki wants most is simple: a warm lap, and people who will spend lots of time with her and who will love her as much as she will love them. After 13 years of being someone’s cherished companion, she deserves a gentle, loving place to call home again. ••••••••• As my foster family gets to know me my profile can change and will be updated accordingly.
