Story
Chicky came to us, scared of her own shadow, we even had to go so far as to carry her from the car to the house, carry her into the backyard to use the bathroom, and she was frozen in fear every moment of the day, until we grabbed a leash when would come alive. So we started walking her and walking her and walking her and taking her to the dog park and getting her out of the house as much as possible she used to be petrified of Brian and now he’s one of her favorite people on the planet. she never barks, she is the most well-behaved dog I’ve ever had in my house, she knows where her bed is. She knows where her sitting spots are, and she never choose anything except a dog toy. She is such a loving, sweetheart, and as long as she’s getting regular walks, she’s quite a happy dog. She is scared of children and loud teenagers, even being in our house since December, that has not changed however, her fear of strangers in general has gotten much better, over the last few weeks she’s now started taking treats from strangers at the dog park.! She is also cat friendly! Adoption fees: Adult: 1-6 yrs $400.00 Each of our dogs are fully vaccinated to include Bordetella, DHLPP and Rabies. We deworm and microchip each dog as well as spay or neuter. Our adoption process includes an initial conversation about the dog to see if the dog is a good match or if another dog could be a more suitable match. We also will complete a home visit. It should be noted that our adoption counselors know the dogs and can best guide any possible adopter with a suitable match. Please visit https://www.calpaws.org/available-dogs for the adoption application! We are always in need of experienced fosters for the amount of dogs we have coming in. Story
Meet Nessie. At first I am very reserved, but once I get to know you, I am very lovable.  I am learning to play with toys and I like the squeaky ones. I have had some training and I am learning what it is like to walk on leash. I am also learning that treats are good.  I love to hang out with you and give lots of kisses.  I am housebroken and crate trained.  At night, if you put a blanket or a dog bed next to your bed, I will stay next to you, that is my favorite place.  If you need a stay at home companion, I am your girl.  I love going for walks and I ride well in the car.  Take me on hikes with you, I am very agile and like to make it over any obstacles.  I have a very strong prey drive and would do well in such activities. Cats are a thing to chase, so a home without cats would be ideal. I also like to hang out on the couch with you and if you are not sitting in your favorite chair, I will curl up in it. I have not been around children much, so I would need a slow introduction to them. I will sneak up and gently steal toys from my foster sister (Cora). I have been introduced to pup cups and really enjoyed them.    I am really learning what it is like to be a dog. I am learning commands like sit, paw, down and stay. I will do well in a house with another confident dog to help show me the ropes. I am definitely a dog that requires time and trust, but I am a loyal and loving dog to my people.  Adoption fees: Adult: 1-6 yrs $400.00 Each of our dogs are fully vaccinated to include Bordetella, DHPP, DHLPP and Rabies. We deworm each dog and chip. Lastly, we spay or neuter each of our dogs. Our adoption process includes an initial conversation about the dog to see if the dog is a good match or if another dog could be a more suitable match. We also will complete a home visit. Story
Felix is an approximately 3 years old German shepherd mix. He has that BEAUTIFUL classic black and tan shepherd coat and is sure to get lots of compliments when out and about!Felix can be nervous when meeting new people and new dogs, so he does best with slow introductions and would thrive with an owner who is committed to continuing his training and socialization.Once comfortable, Felix is a silly, goofy, fun dog. He loves the outdoors and would do best in an active home. He enjoys going for walks and would make a fabulous hiking and/or jogging partner. He loves to use his nose and play fetch. However his most favorite place to be is sitting next to his person. He seems to prefer the ladies but has bonded with a couple males, it just takes a bit longer.Felix has gotten along with a large male shepherd and a medium sized pitbull in his foster home with slow introductions. He has made a few feline friends as well so shows cat potential when introduced properly.Felix is nervous in the car but he is slowly learning that the car means fun adventures!! He is crate trained, potty trained, and walks well on the leash. He is very affectionate and eager to please. He loves his treats. A great dog with a ton of potential but needs someone who is going to give him time to feel comfortable and show just how awesome he is.To find out more about Felix please go online to CalPaws.org or send an email to cpk9rescue@gmail.com Adoption fees:   Dogs over 1 and under 6 years old: $400 Each of our dogs are fully vaccinated to include Bordetella, DHLPP and Rabies. Story
Bio for DUTCH: Dutch came to CALPAWS via the Los Banos Animal Shelter.  If you want to describe him in one word, look up "gregarious," and you will understand his personality very well.  Dutch loves nothing more than to love & be loved, and has quickly established himself as the "mayor" of his current foster home.   Be warned: Dutch is big and powerful, and so his efforts to express affection might well bowl you over, literally! Fortunately, however, he is very compliant and will come when called every time and is always extremely eager to please! Dutch will require a large and sturdy crate or kennel, but once he learns he can't pop the doors, he ceases any effort to try to escape.   Dutch has shown great ability to get along with both small and big dogs and can be described as "Cat curious" but has never shown any aggression toward them (or any other animal).   Dutch will definitely enjoy a home where he has plenty of space to run and play.  He's a big gentle teddy bear with a big loving heart, and he needs a big space to blow off energy. He is fun, loving and goofy!   Dutch originally came from Kern county. He was a lucky boy who was able to make it out of the shelter. He was liked a lot at the shelter and they advocated for him. Which is how he became a CalPaws dog!  Adult: 1-6 yrs $400.00 Each of our dogs are fully vaccinated to include Bordetella, DHLPP and Rabies. Story
Watch his video: https://youtu.be/1UTLVDnYmGA Nash needs a foster or adopter! Nash is a young dog with such a sweet and affectionate disposition. As you can see from the video, he meets new people with gentleness and tolerance. Nash is very loving and looks towards his people for guidance. Nash came from the county shelter. He was scheduled to be put to sleep due to overcrowding but the volunteers loved him and banded together to get him pulled. Unfortunately, he doesn't have a place to live and is currently being boarded in a kennel. Nash has a very playful nature, and given his size, needs a yard to expend his energy. As a young dog, he does require regular exercise. Because he's been cooped up in a kennel for so long, it will take time for him to settle down to a new routine. He needs a chance to relieve all the pent-up stress he's been living under while at the shelter. Once a stable routine has been established, you'll see this endearing boy blossom. Nash is currently being boarded in Walnut Creek. Please contact Desiree at Martina's Rescue if interested in fostering or adopting him. desireeshaver@comcast.net or 510.575.5086 ** This is a courtesy listing. **

Story
Hello from Miss Zelda!Zelda is an absolute love and does great with the other similarly sized dogs in her foster home. It is clear she has had at least one litter of puppies, but she is now spayed and ready to find her perfect home. She is also fantastic with the two children in the home aged 6 and 13, although her foster has definitely been working on her manners with her in terms of eating food that doesn’t belong to her. Zelda loves the other dogs but is very much driven by human attention and affection. She is extremely food motivated but does not seem to have any toy drive. This beautiful girl would do best in a home with children over age 5 and no small animals including small dogs or cats. She has a definite prey drive.  A home where she will receive lots of love and attention, along with continued training and socialization, is a must for this girl. Zelda is fully house broken and crate trained. If you think your home may be a good match for Zelda, please don’t hesitate to fill out an application at calpaws.org. She can’t wait to meet you! Meet Daphne! Daphne, a young Female Dutch Shepherd mix, who definitely knows her name.   She has the basic commands of come, sit and lay down, We are working on stay.  At meal time she quietly sits waiting for her bowl.  With time she will not inhale her food thinking someone else will get it.  I can put my hand in her bowl without her being aggressive it.  Loves treats and takes them gently with when put in an open hand.  Daphne is crated at night and during the day while I’m at work.  I put a bone in her crate that is smeared with natural peanut butter as she is content!  I leave the door to her crate open and she goes inside to hang out, safe space. Potty trained- as soon as I let her out of the crate she heads outside and does her business, praising her for good potty outside.  Loves toys of all kinds - her goal is to remove the squeaker.  Heavy duty toys for her is a big plus.  Loves to have her belly rubbed. The leash, if she sees the car she puts the brakes on and hard to move her towards it.  Taking small steps with her wearing the leash and being in the backyard. She is fine with the other dogs she has met, the only barking or sounds from her is when you leave her out of the crate, she’s excited you are there. dult: 1-6 yrs $400.00 Each of our dogs are fully vaccinated to include Bordetella, DHLPP and Rabies. Meet Mavis! Mama Mavis came to us 2 days after giving birth in the shelter.  A shelter is not a place for a nursing Mama.  Mavis was a wonderful Mama to her littles, and they have all flown the coop. Now it is Mavis's time to find her forever home! Mavis was fearful of many new things, so as a rescue we decided to send her to board and train.  During her time in board and train she was expose to many different elements, and also basic training.  She has matered the program!  She is the sweetest most cuddliest Mal there ever was.  She absolutly loves her person.  She will make a wonderful companion.  She is dog friendly and we believe she is cat workable as she has no prey drive.  Mavis will make a wonderful running or hiking budy.  Mavis can have the Mal energy, but also is fine to chill.   ps She loves to lay right next to you on the couch!
