Story
Merlin is 8 years old—she was born on 1/15/18. She was the runt of a litter of 7. She was just 8lbs when we brought her home…now she is 55lbs. Her mom was a big fluffy black and red German shepherd named Tallie, and her dad was likely a pitt. Even though she’s technically upper middle aged, she still acts like a puppy. She is spastically happy when her humans get home, and she brings every visitor a shoe as a welcome offering. She is happiest when she has lots of structure and physical activity, so needs an owner with some experience with large working breeds.Merlin has a high prey drive so struggles to be polite with cats, so a cat-free home is a must. She also doesn't love sharing her space babies and toddlers, but older children are just fine. We have a baby and it no longer feels safe to keep her in our home, which breaks our hearts. But she is the sweetest, smartest, loyalest creature. She loves her humans and just wants to hang out near you all day long.

Story
Rocky is the best boy. He’s energetic and loving, super easy to train and eager to please. His history is mostly guesswork. He was found with heart worm and treated by an incredible foster family. New home should love him but also have time for him. He can get by on a 30min walk but loves adventures when you can give them to him. He would be a great running or hiking companion!I have only seen him around kids once but he was completely nonreactive. He does react to small animals on walks so he may need some training to be in a home with a cat. He has a big heart so I believe he could learn to love them.

Learn more hereMeet Landon, a goofy, lovable shepherd mix with big zoomies! 1 year old and 55 pounds, this handsome pup is full of energy, curiosity, and joy. Found as a stray at a construction site, Landon is now ready to build a future with a forever family of his own. His fosters say he is incredibly smart, treat-motivated, and already knows “sit”, “paw” and “down.” He's crate trained and potty trained, and has settled in beautifully. This silly guy gets along with the playful resident dog, and would thrive in an active home with room to run, play, and continue learning. After a fun day of adventures, Landon’s favorite thing is snuggling up for pets —he’ll happily drift right off to sleep beside you.  At the shelter, Landon did wonderfully in doggy playgroups. He absolutely loves other dogs and likes to show off his fun side with chase games and play bows galore. If you’re looking for a loyal shadow, a playful companion, and a total sweetheart wrapped into one energetic pup, Landon might just be your match! Buttercup is very intelligent, friendly, curious and sociable. A little feisty. She grew up in a home with children and loves kids! Buttercup has a typical German Shepherd personality - she is loyal, goofy, smart, and energetic! Buttercup would do well in any active home where she can get lots of physical and mental stimulation and be a part of the family!

Story
I am at Oakland Animal Services in kennel Dog Adoption:13Jacob – Affectionate, Sensitive, and Deeply Connected to His People Jacob is a young German Shepherd mix weighing 55 pounds with a thoughtful, people-oriented nature. While he can be a bit sensitive in new or overwhelming environments, he shows a strong desire to connect and seek comfort from trusted handlers. Affectionate and handler-focused: Once he feels safe, Jacob becomes very loving and seeks out gentle affection. He enjoys pets, leans into touch, and often shows soft, attentive eye contact with his caregivers. Smart and food-motivated: Jacob already knows “sit” and responds well to treats, making him a great candidate for continued positive reinforcement training and confidence-building. Sensitive explorer: He can be unsure in new or busy environments and benefits from a calm, patient approach. With time, he begins to relax, explore, and engage more comfortably with his surroundings. Dog-social potential: Jacob has participated in playgroups and shown generally appropriate social behavior with other dogs, though he may be more comfortable with calm, well-matched companions or as a solo dog with structured dog interactions. Could do well in a home with appropriately matched dogs, or placed as a solo dog with appropriate dog friends. Jacob will do best with experienced adopters who can offer gentle guidance, structure, and time to decompress. With patience and consistency, he has all the makings of a loyal and deeply bonded companion.June 26, 2026, 11:32 pm

Story
Meet Kairo, a young Malinois who somehow managed to max out both his “brain” and “beauty” stats—and still had points left over for goofiness. Adventures, exercise, and exploring the world may be high on his to-do list—but once he’s gotten his wiggles out, he’s all about snuggles and softness for his favorite people. Whether he’s mastering new tricks, inventing his own games, or just supervising whatever you’re doing, he’s always ready for action. He’s the kind of dog who will make you laugh, keep you on your toes, and still curl up beside you at the end of it all. Incredibly sweet and endlessly playful, Kairo will keep you entertained no matter the activity. Kairo is currently in a foster home. If you're interested in him, please email kswanson@berkeleyca.gov First, we'll set up a virtual meeting with their current foster family via phone, Zoom, or Facetime, to provide you with more detailed information. Then, if you feel that Kario might be a good adoption fit, shelter staff will gladly coordinate an up-close and personal meet and greet with your potential family member. Thank you for your support!
