Story
Hi, I wanted to give up my dog for adoption because both my wife and I have recent had a busier schedule. We wanted to find a home for her where she can receive the attention she deserves. She is a loving dog, super friendly, gets along with all dogs and people she meets and just wants to be loved. Looking for a good home for her. She is on one prescription, and joint treatment but otherwise she's a healthy girl.

Story
Please meet Apollo! Apollo is a sweet, energetic, loving shepherd. He loves walking and snuggling up with you as if he's a lap dog! Unfortunately, with work and living in an apartment, we no longer have the time and space to give him the attention and care he needs and deserves. He is reactive to dogs he does not know, consisting of heavy barking and leash pulling, but he does well with training mechanisms to lessen those behaviors as long as you keep consistent, and I am sure it will continue to lessen! We are looking for Apollo a new home in the next two weeks with a patient and loving provider.

Story
We adopted Mally because we love dogs and have always had dogs, since our other dog was put down due to health complications, we looked for a new dog, found Mally, but turns out she doesn't get along with our cat and neither my mom or I have the time to walk her properly because of work related reasons, so she needs a family that is active and can give her long walks and a lot of playtime, she is somewhat house trained but still needs some training

Story
Mally is a 58 pound, three-year-old, spayed German Shepherd mix. It took her a couple of months to get comfortable with us. Initially she was very skittish and I think that she was abused in her past. She is sweet, loving and quite smart. It only took about 7 tries to learn ‘gimme 5’ and she’s also learned ‘stay’. She knew ‘sit’. She’s very social with other dogs and loves to play. A few months after we adopted her she was once left alone for a long period of time and she chewed up part of a stuffed chair. She also is not leash trained. I planned to have her go into a training program but realized that we’re not giving her what she really needs. She has lots of energy and needs lots of exercise and we’re unable to give her that due to our work. She needs a person or family who is/are active and perhaps have another dog. Once she feels safe she’ll give you lots of love. We all fell in love with her and are heart broken that she can’t stay with us.

I am in a foster home and not at the shelter. If you are interested in adopting, submit an adoption questionnaire by email. Learn more hereHello from Milo! Milo is a gentle and loving soul. This sweet boy may have had a rough start in life, but he has made tremendous strides in improving his social abilities in his foster home. He was once fearful and nervous around new situations and people. Now, he eagerly welcomes guests to his home, wagging his tail in excitement for some tasty treats. He's even conquered his fear of passing strangers on the leash! (He still may have some stranger danger but it's getting better every day.) Fosters have reported that Milo is a playful and healthy pup who loves nothing more than being outside, playing, and exploring with his furry foster doggie siblings. He's full of affection and adores being petted, and his favorite place to cuddle up is right next to his beloved humans on the bed. His foster family calls him "Sunny Boy"! Milo is a good sleeper, sleeping soundly through the night, too. Milo will thrive in a calm and quiet household and environment, with routine and consistency so that he can continue to feel safe. He has learned to be a more confident dog! While Milo's past makes it hard to predict how he'll react around children or cats, one thing is for sure: this dog is full of love and loyalty, waiting for the perfect family to give him the love and care he deserves. With his good nature and willingness to learn, Milo is ready to be a faithful companion for life. Could you be the one to give him the loving home he's been waiting for? Milo is about 3 years old and weighs 59 lbs. He would prefer a quiet and adult-only home at this time. Click HERE to learn how to adopt Milo.&#226&#157&#164&#239&#184&#143   April 24, 2024, 11:19 pm

And yes, he has mastered the art of "puppy eyes"! Max is incredibly soft and adores affection and belly rubs. Don't let his senior status fool you; full of life, this pup is far from retirement and maintains excellent mobility, hearing, and eyesight. He relishes going on walks, car rides, and is always eager for new adventures, such as exploring the coastal trail at Half Moon Bay or hiking on local nature trails. His current routine includes two daily walks around the neighborhood and mental exercises to keep him healthy and content. He reveals his playful side when pouncing on plush squeaking toys or zooming around the yard. Max has mastered many new skills, proving that older dogs are both capable and intelligent. He has adapted to indoor living, is crate trained, and understands numerous commands and associated hand signals. Max is highly food motivated and fearlessly attempts anything for treats, from navigating a long tunnel to jumping over small objects. His food motivation aids in his training and eagerness to learn new tricks. Max resides in a suburban foster home with a yard enclosed by a 6-foot fence, where he enjoys a balance of indoor and outdoor time. Indoors, he remains calm and does not bark at the doorbell, garbage, mailman, or passersby, whether human or canine. While Max prefers to be the sole focus of attention, he has enjoyed a few playdates with select tolerant dogs.  If you're searching for a truly remarkable companion with a sweet and affectionate demeanor, look no further than Max. He's the complete package, ready to bring immense joy and excitement into your home.         View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by Walnut (@walnut.wanders)  April 24, 2024, 11:19 pm

I am in a foster home and not at the shelter. If you are interested in adopting, submit an adoption questionnaire by email. Learn more hereAmana, our sensitive adult dog around 3 years old, might start off a bit shy, but give her a moment, and she blossoms into a bundle of joy.  Picture this: Amana walks with graceful elegance, displaying a composed demeanor, all while tipping the scales at a perfect 50 lbs—she's the mid-sized beauty with a heart brimming with warmth. Now, let's talk treats—Amana is not just a fan; she's an enthusiast! And takes them gently! She may start shy, but oh, when she's comfortable, get ready for a transformation into an engaging companion. She enjoys pets and affection, and so sweet. And here's the fun part—Amana may not have a repertoire of commands, but she's a treat-motivated maestro, turning positive reinforcement training into a delightful dance.  To potential adopters, here's the scoop—Amana's signals are like a secret language waiting to be deciphered. Show her respectful understanding, give her the time to unwind, and voilà! You'll unlock the true charm of this delightful furball. Amana has met some polite and social dogs at the shelter. She was initially a bit tense around other dogs, but gradually, she lets loose, engaging in play that's nothing short of delightful. Picture her giving play bows and bouncing around, revealing her inner party animal.  In a nutshell, Amana is more than a gentle dog—she's a shy sweetheart with a wagging tail and a zest for treats. If you're ready to sprinkle warmth, kindness, and positive reinforcement into your life, Amana is all ears and paws, eagerly awaiting to be your cherished companion.  See her flourish in foster @adopt_oas_amana on Instagram! I am in a foster home and not at the shelter. If you are interested in adopting, submit an adoption questionnaire by email. Learn more hereWatch out! A dog whose calm and joyful demeanor is irresistable! Introducing Champagne with these amazing, delightful qualities: Heartwarming Happy Prance:  Champagne's happy prance during her walk touches your heart and brings a bright and cheerful energy to your daily interactions. Calm and Sweet Nature:  Exhibiting super calm and sweet behavior, Champagne remains composed and gentle, even during activities like bath time. She has been diagnosed with a skin condition called Pyoderma and receives frequent medicated baths at the shelter. Leash Mastery:  Walking on an amazingly loose leash, Champagne proves to be an excellent walking companion, making strolls a pleasant experience. Though she will pull if she sees a squirrel run by!  Smart girl. According to her foster family, she is so smart and knows "sit," "lay down," and figured out how to open a door on her own.  Peanut Butter Connoisseur:  Champagne's love for peanut butter adds a delightful and endearing detail to her preferences, creating opportunities for enjoyable treats. We think Champagne would like to be the one and only dog in the home, but she may appreciate having some doggie friends! She is currently in foster with another dog and is doing well, after slow introductions.  If you're looking for a furry companion who brings happiness, calmness, and a touch of sweetness to your life, Champagne is the perfect match. Embrace the shared moments and discover a loyal companion ready to brighten your days with love and joy.         View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by Oakland Animal Services (OAS) (@oaklandanimalservices)  April 24, 2024, 11:19 pm

I am in a foster home and not at the shelter. If you are interested in adopting, submit an adoption questionnaire by email. Learn more herePlease meet the lovely Jetta! She has been at the shelter for a few weeks, and volunteers have reported that she is "easy peasy" to handle and hang out with. She enjoys meeting new people, especially when snacks are involved. Offer her some pets and booty scratches, and she will lean right in or flop into your lap for snuggles. Once she knows you're offering attention, she will turn on the charm and show her goofy side. Otherwise, sitting near you for pets is just fine too. She seems like the kind of girl who wants to be your shadow and constant companion, sitting on a bench and watching the world go by. While she seems optimistic about meeting new people, she appears a little nervous about meeting other dogs right now. She would be a great candidate for positive reinforcement-based training methods to help her gain confidence with other dogs. Jetta is around 8 years old and weighs 70 pounds. Story
I am at Oakland Animal Services in kennel Dog I:4Meet Genesis, the petite, sweet, and affectionate soul who is ready to find her haven. At 2 years old and 48 lbs, she may be small in stature but her heart is overflowing with love and warmth. Genesis is the epitome of easy-going and sensitive, with a pliant nature that makes her a joy to be around. She craves affection and thrives on gentle care, making her the perfect companion for those seeking a loyal friend. While she may feel a bit uncomfortable and anxious when meeting other dogs at the shelter, we're still getting to know her and can't wait to update you on her progress. With time and patience, we're confident that Genesis will bloom into the confident and happy pup she was meant to be. From Genesis’ short term foster: This sweet girl has settled in quickly! Her gentle nature makes her easy to live with. Easy on leash, Genesis enjoys sniffing and exploring the world and making friends. She is affectionate with people big and small and always graciously accepting of pats and ear scratches.  At home, she seeks to be near her person and cuddle as close as she can. Living with another dog who is independent, Genesis shows a good sense of boundaries. Both dogs walk easily on leash together, shoulder to shoulder, but mostly leave each other alone at home. Genesis would love a human companion who can give her all the gentle love she seeks from human hands. She has shown a lot of interest in cats she has seen on walks (and probably doesn't really understand them!), so might prefer a home without small animals. If you are ready to meet this petite shep, herself oh so ready for a home as soft and loving as she is, come and meet Genesis! April 24, 2024, 11:19 pm
