Story
Meet the fantastic Cooper! This guy is a short stack of appreciation. He is only about 55 pounds and on the smaller side for a male GSD. What does he appreciate, you may ask? Being away from the shelter of course and in a home with friends to play with, people to pet him, and a cozy bed to sleep on each night. Cooper was pulled from the Stockton Shelter in mid-July. That place was stressing him out! He needed time, structure and some confident dog and people companions in his life to help him decompress. He also needed to be neutered and to get rest during his recovery time. What helped Cooper move into the new chapter of his life: Short walks through the neighborhood. A patient and confident person. A playful pup friend. A predictable and structured routine. Love and understanding. Cooper tends to have some environmental anxiety but using the recipe above this guy will reward you with companionship, couch potato vibes, goofy antics, silly zoomies, and the softest sweetest eyes to stare into. Fill out an application if this sounds like your type of pup!" FOSTERED IN ACAMPO

Story
Hazel is a German Shepherd mix, approx. 4.5 years old. Her story is one of resilience and love. Hazel was abandoned last July by her owner when he moved to Texas. Instead of trying to find a home, he opted to dump her in the country. Fortunately, Lana, a kind Samaritan, found her, took her in, and has been caring for her ever since. Despite her past, Hazel remains a sweet and affectionate girl who loves giving kisses and wagging her tail to everyone she meets. Hazel considers everyone her friend! Hazel travels well in a car and enjoys walks, although she is learning leash manners. She is a quick study and would benefit from additional training. She is treat-motivated and takes treats very gently, which makes her a joy to work with. She is also very mellow and well-behaved indoors. Unfortunately, Hazel and Lana’s resident rescue female German Shepherd do not get along, so Hazel would do best as an only dog or could do well with a male companion. However, Hazel prefers not to live with kitties. If you have been looking for a wonderful, loyal, and loving companion who will be a gentle presence in your home, Hazel could be the perfect match. After all she’s been through, Hazel deserves a caring family and a place to call home. LOCATED IN LODI

Story
Sweet, petite Chloe is a five-year-old female, small of frame and weighing just under 50 lbs. An unclaimed stray, the shelter reached out to us because of Chloe’s affectionate disposition, and mellow demeanor. Chloe was kenneled there with a variety of dogs, and did well with all of them. Though a little on the shy side at first, Chloe is very affectionate and seems to like all the people she’s met, unless they are quite loud. She is getting over mild hand shyness, and appreciates her foster moving a bit slowly. She gives little kisses whenever her foster’s hand or face is within reach. She is very calm and quiet indoors - she stays near, and lies down wherever her foster is working or relaxing at the moment. She has excellent house manners, and does not get on counters, or on furniture, or into the trash. She has only chewed on approved chew toys; she leaves everything else alone. She is uncomfortable on slick floors, but is gradually getting better at it. She is a smart girl, and learns quickly. She listens, and needs only gentle corrections. In her first couple days at her foster home, she mastered “sit”, and now sits for treats, attention, dinner, and having the leash put on. She has learned to go into the crate at bedtime, and sleeps there quietly through the night. Chloe appears to be house-trained, and reliably uses the outdoors to do her business. She does however need to go out immediately after eating. Chloe manages her energy very well. In the backyard, Chloe shows her bouncy, energetic, spry side. Scampering, zoomies, and hopping with happiness is her outdoor mode. She enjoys sniffing and exploring, and locking eyes with squirrels to stare them down. Chloe is doing very well with the resident female German Shepherd, gives little kisses to her “hostess dog”, and generally seems fine with other dogs. Chloe will growl if the resident dog approaches her while she is chewing a bone or cow hoof, but does not escalate beyond that. Chloe has learned and accepted that the human is to be shared with the resident dog, and does not belong to her. She did meet one dog she did not like, but he is a dog that most dogs don’t like. She loves walks, and is working on learning leash manners, but that is going slower, especially if squirrels are around. If they are, a firm grip on the leash is needed. She appears to have significant prey drive, so would not be first choice for a home with cats. On walks, she may be startled by sudden noises, loud or fast vehicles, or people yelling. She finds the park and city streets where she’s walking a highly stimulating environment, but is getting used to the noise and chaos there. Chloe can be anxious or timid in new or unknown situations, but will bravely proceed when she needs to, and has been adjusting well to everything she’s been exposed to. This is a really sweet girl who will be a wonderful addition to almost any home with no pet squirrels.

Story
Golden State was contacted by a friend regarding this little cutie, who is only 8-9 months old. "Wilson" was rescued from a homeless camp in Stockton by a kind Samaritan. The homeless lady was trying to give him away. Wilson is going to the vet today to have his eye checked and treated, and he will be vaccinated. Being young, Wilson can be overly rambunctious and pushy when meeting and playing with four-legged pals, but is not dog reactive or aggressive (see video in comments below). He definitely needs to be taught some manners and can use some training. We do NOT know how he is with kitties.
