Sweet, handsome, fun-loving Blake is 2 years old and weighs 50 lbs. We think he is a Rhodesian Ridgeback/Black Mouth Cur mix. He is affectionate and loves to give kisses and cuddle with his people. He is friendly with every person he meets, but he can be a little picky about his dog friends. Blake is an excellent choice for someone wanting an only dog, but we think he would be ok in a home with smaller dogs. He loves to play fetch, and any old ball will do, but he hasn't quite mastered the part of bringing the ball back! Blake is very athletic and needs his daily exercise. He loves taking long walks. He is crate and potty trained. He won't be a good fit for apartment life. Blake will be a super loyal and loving companion. Meet Max! He is a 1 yr old neutered male German Pinscher/Doberman Pinscher that weighs 66lbs. He came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 10/14 as an owner surrender. Reason given was he had too many animals, and Max was a big pup. He has been very well cared for, clean soft fur, and may be housetrained. He is an extremely handsome boy, and always has a smile on his face. Despite being left at the shelter, he has an upbeat, happy go lucky personality. And such a silly playful side too. He found a stuffed toy and he threw it up in the air and bounced around the shelter yard. He walks well on a leash and takes treats gently. On occasion he does get excited and will try to jump, yet he can be quickly redirected with the sit command. Very smart pup! He hopes he can find a loving family with a secured yard, take him for walks and enrichment, shower him with plenty of stuffed toys and be close and cuddly with his human companions inside on his own dog bed. Tho he had no reaction to other dogs barking at him, we do ask if there is another dog in the home please ask the shelter for a dog test. Come meet this wonderful boy!!

Volt is being fostered in NC. Volt has some vision. update Volt is doing well! He lives for cuddles at night before going to bed in his crate. During the day he has one speed and that is lightning fast. His favorite treat is carrots and he will do anything for them but lay down, lol. He has a pretty good recall and knows sit. He is fully potty trained and goes to the back door when he needs to go out. He plays so gently with his foster mom's mini aussies and rough and tumble with Elektra (corso) and Trigger (lab). Volt had some grand mal seizures that were caused by Simparica Trio. These lasted about 3 weeks with lingering focal seizures. He is still on keppra and he's doing great! He has not had any seizures in the last 3 months. BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately

Scooby joined our family in July 2024 after I found him sitting alone on a sidewalk. From the beginning, he has been gentle, affectionate, and eager to bond with people. He is playful and adventurous and enjoys outdoor time, but he also has a calm, snuggly side and loves being close to his family. Scooby is smart and food-motivated, making him easy to engage and train. He has lived happily with our small dog and is friendly with visiting family members and caregivers. He is loyal and protective in a calm, reassuring way and thrives in a loving, family-oriented environment. Due to recent hand surgery and allergies, I’m no longer able to give Scooby the activity and outdoor time he deserves. This decision comes from love and the desire to see him continue to thrive. Scooby would do best with a family or individual who can offer regular exercise, companionship, and affection. In return, he will be a devoted, joyful companion. Wrangler is being fostered in PA. Wrangler has some limited vision. Haroo, my foster Mommy said I had to give an update on me. I am now 11 months old! She has been helping me deal with something called Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency. Man, thems big words. I will just call it what foster Mommy says, EPI. It means that that pancre-something thing inside me doesn’t give me enzymes so I can digest proteins. So foster Mommy puts enzymes in my food to help me with that. Also, Mr Vet Dr said because of this EPI thing, my B12 level in my blood is low, so foster Mommy gives me a shot every other week of B12. I am a good boy for those and don’t even feel them, as long as I hold still. Other than that, I am still learning various commands. I tell foster Mommy when I need to go out. I sleep all night with foster Mommy. I love playing with other dogs and cuddling with humans. I can sometimes get scared when I don’t know someone, but will warm up to them especially if they have treats. I am okay with older children. BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.
