Story
Meet Tyke, a bright and quirky Shih Tzu mix who we rescued from the euthanasia list at NYC ACC due to a lack of space. Now safe and waiting for his second chance, Tyke is looking for a patient, experienced forever home. This clever little guy knows an impressive list of commands—sit, stay, paw, spin, speak, and more. He loves long walks, car rides, snacking on cooked veggies, and playing a good game of fetch. Talk to him, and he'll tilt his head like he's truly listening. Tyke's as smart as he is charming. Tyke bonds deeply with his people and does best in a calm, adult-only home. Tyke is not suited for a home with children. He's dog-friendly with slow introductions, crate-trained, and housetrained, too. Due to some touch sensitivity and guarding behavior, Tyke needs a dog-savvy adopter who will respect his boundaries and continue building his trust. If you're looking for a smart, sensitive, one-of-a-kind pup, Tyke might be your perfect match.  All dogs will be altered, microchipped, and receive age-appropriate vaccines prior to adoption. Please note that the listed location for this dog may not be accurate due to technical limitations of this database and we have transportation options available within 6 hours of NYC (so don't let location hold you back)! Story
PLEASE READ THOROUGHLY FOR ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS Meet Suzie – A Special Shih Tzu with a Heart Full of Love Suzie is a 3 year old, 15lb Shih Tzu who has overcome so much and is now ready to live the life she deserves. Rescued from a puppy mill, Suzie spent her early years being used for breeding—but no more babies for this girl! She’s now spayed, vaccinated, and soaking up love in her foster home. Suzie is a gentle soul who lives peacefully with two foster dog brothers (80 lbs and 40 lbs) and three cats. She’s a sweet, quiet companion who loves to be right by her foster mom’s side, she’s truly a little shadow who just wants to feel safe and close to her person. When Suzie was first rescued, she was severely matted and had to be groomed immediately. During that first grooming, it was discovered that all four of her paws are deformed, a birth defect confirmed by a vet, meaning she has no bone structure in her feet. But don't worry, Suzie doesn’t let it stop her! She gets around with a precious little waddle, and while she can’t take long walks, she enjoys romping in the grass or padding around on carpet. Suzie may have unique needs, but has endless love! She also receives two daily eye medications (one drop, one cream) due to past neglect. She’s a trooper with her meds and always stays calm during her care routine. Suzie is wee-wee pad trained and will also potty outside when given the chance. Suzie doesn’t drink water from a bowl or bottle, but she stays hydrated through her wet or freeze-dried food mixed with extra water. She LOVES her meals and gets visibly excited when it’s time to eat! No Squeaky Toys, Please. Suzie does not like squeaky toys, the sound makes her panic, so a quiet and calm environment is best for her.  Suzie's ideal home would be a calm,  quiet environment where someone is home often to keep her company. She will need someone committed to continue her simple eye care and food routine. She would love a soft surface or grassy area to explore safely. Suzie is a beautiful example of resilience and trust. After everything she’s been through, she’s ready for a loving forever home where she can spend the rest of her days safe, adored, and pampered like she deserves. If you are ready to give Suzie the life she has always dreamed of and deserved, please go to petresqinc.org to fill out an adoption application. Questions will be answered once we have an application.  July 2, 2025, 9:17 am

Story
Hi, I'm Mikey! I’m a 8-year-old Shih Tzu mix with a big heart and an even bigger personality, weighing in at just10 pounds of pure love! I just had a summer haircut and I’m looking fresh, cool, and ready to strut my stuff. Whether it’s running around, playing with my foster sibling, or just lounging like a little prince, I’m totally down. I like other dogs and even cats , but I wouldn’t mind being your spoiled one-and-only either. Your lap, your bed, your heart — I’ll happily take them all! I love people — especially the ones who speak in baby talk and know how to give the best belly rubs. I’ve learned to be a brave little guy, and now I’m all about the snuggles and love. Give me a little time, a soft voice, and maybe a treat or two — and I’ll be your shadow. I’m house-trained, neat and tidy, . I’m recently neutered and had a full dental — some teeth had to go, but now I’ve got a dazzling smile ready just for you! I think a calmer home would be perfect for me — somewhere cozy where I can relax, feel safe, and soak up all the love. If you’re looking for a sweet, loyal little companion, I might just be your guy! Neutered with all up dated shots Please fill out the application on this link https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/POSH/Dog

Story
Layla is a playful, affectionate family dog who loves people and other dogs. She’s very active and does best in a home where someone is around most of the time. She doesn’t do well crated or confined to one area of the house—she wants to be part of the family. Layla barks a lot, mostly just for fun, so she’ll need a home that’s okay with a noisy dog. She’s not house trained yet and will need a patient family willing to work with her on that. She also has severe allergies that will likely need lifelong management. When she came in, her skin was badly infected, but with treatment and a new diet, she’s doing much better. She may need ongoing care, including monthly allergy shots. Layla is a great dog with a lot of love to give. She’ll thrive with a committed family who understands her needs and is ready to make her part of their everyday life. ADOPTION PROCESS: 1. Story
***REQUIRED*** Patches must be adopted to a home that already has a dog. She's happiest with other dogs! Patches is a 2½-year-old Shih Tzu with a sweet soul and a quiet charm. This little lady is friendly, gentle, and has all the makings of a devoted companion. She’s crate trained, sleeps peacefully through the night, and is this close to being fully housebroken. Patches is on the quieter side — she only speaks up when she has something to say, like letting you know it’s cuddle time. She gets along well with other dogs but doesn’t necessarily need a canine buddy to be happy. That said, she would likely thrive in a home with another dog and in a quieter environment overall. She would not do well in an apartment or a busy city setting. What she really wants is someone to love and stick close to. She’s not spayed yet, but that will be taken care of through our vetting process. If you're looking for a sweet, steady, and affectionate best friend, Patches may be the one for you. Story
Hug sweet BASIL today! This adorable guy is approximately 1 year 6 months old and weighs 20 pounds (as of June 20, 2025). We think BASIL is a loving Shih Tzu. BASIL is a total lover who likes to be with his human. He is an emotional dog who loves to be on his humans lap and get petted. We think BASIL will do best with an adopter who works from home. BASIL prefers female dogs to male dogs. We think BASIL will do best as an only dog in a home or with female dog(s). BASIL is crate trained but doesn't like the crate. BASIL is leash-trained. BASIL has not been kid tested. There are cats in the neighborhood and BASIL doesn't respond to them, but he is not in a foster with any cats. BASiL has negative 4dx and fecal tests. However, he still needs his vaccines. BASIL had cherry eyes surgery so they didn’t want to stress BASIL with vaccines concurrently. BASIL will be getting vaccinated. If you're interested in making BASIL part of your family, please fill out an application on our website or send us an email with any questions. We can't wait to hear from you! If you feel that BASIL is a good fit for you/your family, please complete an application from our site, miraclesforsatosrescue.org FOR IMMEDIATE CONSIDERATION PLEASE COMPLETE AN APPLICATION! https://www.miraclesforsatosrescue.org/adopt Please then email the application back to us at miraclesforsatosrescue@gmail.com ------------------------------------- PLEASE READ: This dog is currently located in Puerto Rico. Please make sure you are ready to properly exercise and give a dog all it need for fulfillment. In addition, we cannot guarantee breed of any dog or expected adult size of puppy.
