Ace came to us unresponsive and near death after a sudden mysterious illness, but thanks to immediate medical intervention this special little survivor has come back to life! This 6 year old collapsed, went blind, and was unable to walk and after extensive testing was diagnosed with GME, an idiopathic autoimmune condition that was causing severe pain and swelling in his brain and spine. With aggressive therapy he quickly felt much better and is able to walk and run, and has gained back most of his vision. He was very defensive and upset about being handled but has gotten much happier and friendlier with staff now that he feels better. He still has his attitude at times and despises the vets that saved him, being groomed, and anyone messing with his food or telling him what to do. He loves playing with stuffed squeaky toys, being included in lunch breaks with staff, and play group time with other dogs. His smushy face makes him snort and grunt when he gets excited like a pot belly pig and he makes staff laugh every day with his antics. We are seeking a home who will understand and enjoy him, and who will stay on top of his medical care- he will likely need longterm immunosuppressive oral medication (we will provide a year supply with his adoption) and be monitored for recurrence but he's responded so well to treatment that we are hopeful he will live a normal lifespan!If you are local to Bergen County NJ, have experience with weird temperamental little dogs and would like to open your home to our special little guy please submit an application Primary Color: White Age: 7yrs 3mths 2wks

Romeo and Juliet were both street dogs, traveling everywhere together, looking for food and love. They were finally picked up by animal control in Georgia where they remained on a stray hold until they could be released. Animal control soon realized that Juliet was pregnant by Romeo so they called us to see if we could get them out of there before she gave birth. We had them immediately transported here to Tennessee and two weeks later she gave birth to 7 puppies. Sadly one was stillborn but the remaining 6 are all healthy happy babies who have all been adopted. Now it's Juliet's turn. She is crate trained, fully vaccinated, microchipped, spayed and heart worm negative. Juliet is very high energy but extremely lovable. She is excellent with my 3 year old granddaughter and as you can see in the photo, fine with cats. Wouldn't you love to give her a loving and forever home! You know they say GOOD THINGS come in two’s…well this pair of beautiful senior girls are absolutely the definition of that “saying”.  Pulled from a poor home with no running water nor electricity, Hazel and Sassy are at your beck and call.  This perfect little dynamic duo are 10 pounds or less, loving, great on the leash and they are joined for life in a forever bond.  They are the best little girls who are said to be Shih Tzu mixes and Sassy is about 5 years and Hazel is around 9-10 years old.  Sassy is the white and red girl and Hazel is the darker brindle girl with one eye.  They are healthy and completely vetted with bloodwork, all shots done, fecal and giardia test done, microchipped, spayed, heartworm test done and full exam.  They are quiet, house trained and they are the easiest little ladies you will ever meet.  They are NOT runners and they are just looking for a quiet, calm, content home to lay their head for the rest of their life. Meet Waldo....... Where has this handsome guy been..... Waldo came in from a puppy mill in the midwest. Waldo was sold to a pet store, but rejected due to a small umbilical hernia. This is very common with puppies, and usually causes no pain to the pup. Vets can repair the hernia during routine spay and neuter surgery. Waldo is a 10 week old Teddy Bear - which is a Shihtzu / Bichon. He is considered hypoallergenic. Waldo is very sweet. He is adjusting well in foster, and is definitely having a great time playing with toys, other pups and getting lots of love from our volunteers.
