Ace came to us unresponsive and near death after a sudden mysterious illness, but thanks to immediate medical intervention this special little survivor has come back to life! This 6 year old collapsed, went blind, and was unable to walk and after extensive testing was diagnosed with GME, an idiopathic autoimmune condition that was causing severe pain and swelling in his brain and spine. With aggressive therapy he quickly felt much better and is able to walk and run, and has gained back most of his vision. He was very defensive and upset about being handled but has gotten much happier and friendlier with staff now that he feels better. He still has his attitude at times and despises the vets that saved him, being groomed, and anyone messing with his food or telling him what to do. He loves playing with stuffed squeaky toys, being included in lunch breaks with staff, and play group time with other dogs. His smushy face makes him snort and grunt when he gets excited like a pot belly pig and he makes staff laugh every day with his antics. We are seeking a home who will understand and enjoy him, and who will stay on top of his medical care- he will likely need longterm immunosuppressive oral medication (we will provide a year supply with his adoption) and be monitored for recurrence but he's responded so well to treatment that we are hopeful he will live a normal lifespan!If you are local to Bergen County NJ, have experience with weird temperamental little dogs and would like to open your home to our special little guy please submit an application Primary Color: White Age: 6yrs 8mths 4wks

We didn't think ChaCha would survive when she came to us in critical condition, but she surprised everyone including her doctors with her amazing recovery and will to live! This special needs survivor's diagnosis: canine herpes virus, which many adult dogs may have and carry with minimal or no symptoms, but is usually fatal in very young puppies. She was suffering from severe neurological signs, painful eye ulcers, and was lethargic and weak but once feeling better has transformed into a happy fun puppy. She does have chronic dry eye as a result, and will need longterm prescription eye drops as well as a home that will continue to monitor her for any potential flares down the road. Though not a huge risk, to be safe its better if she doesn't live with or socialize with other dogs... though virus is mainly a threat to newborn puppies and nursing mothers and immune compromised dogs, it is possible if she flares she could spread it to other dogs resulting in on and off respiratory symptoms. She is NOT contagious to cats or people at all, so enjoy those puppy kisses from her without fear!ChaCha is now about 5 months old and thriving in foster care, but is ready to start looking for her forever home. Best friend Buddy is just that.  He is a happy-go-lucky little guy that does not meet a stranger.  He is good with dogs, cats, and people of almost all ages (no toddlers).  Buddy always seems to be smiling.  This sweet little guy will be an excellent addition to the right family.  Buddy would like a home with another same size and age dog, so he has a companion.  He would also like a fenced in yard as he is used to smelling around when he goes out to do his “business”. Buddy is housebroken (he whines to let you know that he needs to go out), doggie door trained, and he walks well on a leash.  Buddy loves his daily walks.  This little cutie also rides great in the car.  He just settles down and sits in the seat.  Buddy is the perfect co-pilot.  He would be a great companion for someone that would take him places.   Buddy is a very social guy.  He wants to be wherever you are, and in your lap if possible.  His foster mom has moved a chair beside her desk so Buddy can sit there.  He also has wiggled his way into sleeping right beside her.  Buddy would do best with someone who is home most of the time.  He is just happy to be with you.  He is 8-10 years old and he weighs 16 lbs.  Buddy has had some eye issues that went untreated by his original family.  He has had surgery and is now on eye drops both eyes for the rest of his life.  Poor Buddy also has a heart murmur and is on medicine for that. Bodie came to our shelter in pretty bad shape as an owner surrender. Little is known about his house manners or previous background before the shelter. He arrived dirty and extremely matted, so unfortunately we did have to have his beautiful fur shaved to give him some comfort. Here, he has tested well with other dogs and doesn’t seem to mind cats. He’s a very sweet boy. Bodie is a 8 yrs old Male Shih Tzu who is neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped.

Guys, look at this little gremlin!!! Do not get him wet or feed him after midnight 🤣🤣 Meet Mister!! This handsome boy is a 2 year old male Shih Tzu , Chihuahua mix. Please note that he is NOT considered hypoallergenic since we don't know full lineage. He is 12lbs and fully grown. He is good with other dogs and is very sweet and a little bit of a lower energy dog. He is playful and snuggly, but more of an independent curious boy! He loves to sniff all the things and to go on adventures. He loves car rides and would do great with an active family, who is looking for a smaller dog who isn't just a home body!
