Story
Ziggy was rescued into RHS on 2/22/25.  He is approximately 8 years old and weighed 15 lbs.  He was severly matted and was in need of help.  He received medical care and was shaved down at the same time.  He lost almost a pound of matted hair and dirt.  You can tell he came from an extended neglectful situations.  He has come so far in the last few weeks and he is a different little man.  He is working on going potty outside and is doing an exceptionally good job.  He walks on leash with some hesitation but improves gradually.  Car rides are good for him.  He likes his crate where he takes his afternoon naps often.  He has no issues with the 2 female dogs at the foster home.  He didn't hesitate to get a scratch from a young boy.   Overall, Ziggy is a quiet boy but gets excited whenever he was given a treat.  He is a great lap dog.  He needs someone who is patient because he is missing an eye and is partially blind in the other.  It won't slow him down at all once he learns your home and routines.  He is a wonderful dog with lots of love to give.   Here's how to meet Ziggy: Meet the Adoption Criteria. Before you do anything else, make sure you meet our adoption criteria. You must be at least 21 years old. You must live within a 60-mile radius of Richardson, Texas. You must share veterinary records for all pets currently in your home and all pets owned in the last five years. All pets in the home must be spayed or neutered. If you rent your home, you must provide verification that pets are allowed on the property. You must be willing to be interviewed by an adoption counselor and you must undergo a home visit from an RHS representative. Apply. You can complete an application at an MTP event or complete it online by either clicking the button below or the “Adopt” button beneath the pet’s photo in the listings above. Phone Interview or Attend a Meet the Pets (MTP) event. This is a great opportunity to meet the pet you are interested in and see if you connect. We hold these events once a month on Saturday from 1:00-3:00 p.m. We post the pets who are expected to attend on Friday evening on our Facebook page. For exact details and locations, view our event calendar. Home Visit. If all the steps above are completed satisfactorily, we will set up a home visit where you can meet the pet you are interested in again and the pet can meet other pets in the family. We will try to send the foster parent so you can learn more about how the pet is in a home environment. Complete Adoption. If all feel it is a good match, we will schedule the adoption at MTP or an off-site location. The applicant will need to complete the adoption contract and pay the adoption fee. Story
Pearl’s Journey—From the Shelter to Surgery and Now Healing Pearl is approx 12-14 year old shih tzu mix weighing in at 6 lbs. She was rescued from a kill shelter and released to us early due to her condition. It truly feels like divine timing—just in time for us to rush her in for emergency surgery. She was suffering from pyometra, a severe and often fatal uterine infection caused by not being spayed. Her chances of survival were slim, but our girl is a fighter. She made it through surgery and is now home recovering. If you listen closely to her video, you’ll hear her whimpering—she’s still in a lot of pain, but we’re keeping her pain meds on schedule to keep her as comfortable as possible. While under, she also had a much-needed dental. A couple of teeth had to be pulled, but she still has plenty left to flash a little smile. 😁 Pearl will need daily eye medication for the rest of her life, but that’s a small price to pay for the life she still has ahead of her. We’re so incredibly grateful to everyone who donated and helped us save her. She is now looking for a full time lap to spend the rest of her years. Please no small children in the household Her adoption fee is $250

Story
Tanner is about 8 years old, and was rescued after having lost most of his fur due to neglect and fleas.  He has been cleaned up, neutered and is a happy little dog. His fur is growing back rapidly.  He loves to cuddle and be wherever his human is most of the time. He loves the outdoors and should be in a home with a back hard.  He is good with other small dogs and adults. He is very playful and eager to please; loves playing fetch with his toys. Tanner has a voracious appetite and loves the occasional treat.  Whoever adopts Tanner will have a friend and cuddle buddy for life. He does well in the car too, and would love to accompany you wherever you wish to take him! He is a very dapper gentleman. He will need some potty training, but that should not take too long once he is in a home with a yard (*he is currently in an apartment with a loving foster).  Tanner would do best in a home without young children.  ##2400348##

Story
Hey there! Since you're here, I’m guessing you’re on the hunt for a loyal companion—and guess what? So am I! My name’s Walt, and I’m an 11-month-old Shih Tzu mix with the fluffiest coat and a heart full of love. I’m basically the total package: sweet as can be, great with other dogs, cool with cats, and absolutely adore kids. If your ideal day includes couch snuggles, backyard zoomies, and maybe a few (dozen) treats, then we’re already off to a great start. People say I’ve got a heart like Ted Lasso—kind, gentle, and loyal to the core. I don’t need much to be happy—just a family to love, some toys to toss around, and maybe a few baby carrots (yes, I’m a fan). So, what do you think? Ready to let me be your new best friend? Questions? Please email placement@thestreetdogproject.org Keep up with Walt and the rest of The Street Dog Project: Website: thestreetdogproject.org FB: facebook.com/thestreetdogproject IG: instagram.com/thestreetdogproject

Story
Sam was at a local shelter and in dire need of rescue.  He was completely matted to the bone and weighed 20 lbs.  He is close to 16 lbs now.  He is active, happy now that he is not matted and can move) and loves other dogs.  He LOVES  to play with them.  He is probably 1.5 years old.  he has been diagnosed with Megaesophagus.  He needs to sit in your lap upright  to eat and sit there for about 15 minues for his food to digest.  He is a happy, very loving pup!  He loves to be held and sleep with you.  He is so happy to be in a foster home and out of the shelter! ##1913666##

Cougar is a darling older adult who unfortunately was not protected from heartworms and is currently being treated for them. He is very active and loves to pal around with his buddy, Tiger. He had no structure in his previous life, so is working on good potty manners.
