Story
Adopt Tiger Lily! Tiger Lily was reported to animal control 5 times before anyone stepped in. She was three days from being euthanized at a shelter in Barstow when a rescue contact pulled her and got her into HIT's care. She arrived with severe demodex mange and ear infections, and spent weeks with a medical foster getting both treated. She's been with the same foster and trainer for almost a year now, and what they've watched happen is a dog who takes new people and new dogs seriously at first. Give her a few predictable days, sometimes as few as 24 hours, and she's all in. Her love language is food and play, and if you throw a ball into the grass where she can't see it land, she'll go find it and bring it back, every time, with total focus. DNA testing confirmed Border Collie and Staffordshire terrier in the mix, along with a few other breeds, and anyone who's spent real time with her will tell you it shows both ways. She works like a Border Collie who wants a job and cuddles like a Staffy who wants your whole lap. Her foster describes her as a "mirror dog," the kind who watches you or another dog try something and immediately wants in on it herself. She's also got a competitive streak with a sense of humor attached: she loves chasing the resident dog around with her own ball in her mouth, angling to steal whichever ball he's got instead. She does best in a home with another dog already in it. Left to explore alone, she gets easily distracted and wants to go chase whatever catches her eye, but with company, she sticks close the whole time. She's looking for a home that gives her routine and lets her warm up to new people and places at her own pace instead of rushing her. Once she trusts you, she stays close, and the goofy side she saves for people she knows keeps showing up more and more. If you are interested in adopting, head to hitlivingfoundation.org/adopt to apply. Est. DOB 4/15/2025 Adoption Fee: her adoption fee has been fully sponsored! Thank you to her Fairy Dog Mother, Heather (@thedogsweregoodagain listener), for making that possible.

Story
Meet Django! A bright two-year-old mixed breed currently in Bend, OR, whose sleek black coat with white accents frames a thoughtful face always watching the world with curiosity. At about 50 pounds, this medium sized boy is a smart, active companion who builds deep bonds with his people and celebrates their return home like it is the best moment of the day! Django is the kind of dog who thrives when he has both connection and purpose. He loves to cuddle with the people he trusts, often leaning close for affection or curling up for a cozy nap near the fireplace. That sweet, affectionate side shines brightest once he feels comfortable and safe with his family. Adventure is equally important to him. Django absolutely loves toys of every kind! Balls, sticks, frisbees, and anything that can be tossed for a game of fetch quickly become his favorite treasures. He enjoys walks, runs, and even swimming, and he proudly carries a stick or ball during walks as if it is his special job for the day. His intelligence shows in how much he enjoys training and learning. Django already knows many cues including sit, stay, down, come, heel, place, leave it, drop it, no bark, and ok as a release cue. Practicing these skills with positive reinforcement helps keep his mind engaged and happy. Django does experience fear based reactivity in certain situations. He can feel uncertain around unfamiliar noises, unexpected distractions, or dogs encountered while walking on leash. Because of this, he requires thoughtful management when out in public and benefits from a predictable routine and continued behavior support with an experienced pet parent. He also has a history of resource guarding with another dog around food, toys, or personal space, and there was one minor nip incident involving an unfamiliar person. Meeting guests outside first and allowing him to warm up helps him feel secure. Django currently takes daily Fluoxetine to help manage anxiety. With structure, exercise, and patient guidance, he continues to grow in confidence! He would thrive in a quieter, child-free and cat-free home, likely as the only dog, with an active family who understands reactive dogs and enjoys training. Could Django be the thoughtful adventure partner you have been looking for? Story
“Penny”I’m cute right?! I’m also affectionate and really smart. I would make a great companion for anyone who has the time to spend with me. I know some basic commands, and I’d be happy to show you in exchange for a yummy treat. I originally came in with Sheldon across the way, but we’ve since separated and decided its best for both of us. Not sure if it was our new living situation being too cramped or we just outgrew each other, but we simply fought too much. I keep tabs on him and let him know I still care from across the kennel, but I want what’s best for him and hope he finds a good home.Back to me being cute! The staff and volunteers think I may be house trained because I do my business outside. I may still need some training once adopted, but my breed catches on quick. My breed also gets bored easily and I am happier when I’m doing something and working my brain and body. I can relax but prefer an active lifestyle. I can climb a 7 foot chain linked fence in under a minute, so I need a secure yard and supervision when I go into a new home. The staff recorded me escaping (well trying) the back play yard. Other than this, I’m pretty close to perfect.

Story
Ozzie and Harriet look identical but we promise, in real life, it`s easier to tell them apart. Obviously they are siblings, high energy, super smart, would need a yard. They also must be adopted together. As typical with siblings in some ways they are super similar and in other ways they`re exact opposites. Ozzie is bigger and spottier and in the kennel he`s protective, but in the yard all he wants is attention and affection. Harriet is more petite and perkier of ear. In the kennels she`s shy, but in the yard she is ready to play all day. Both pull a bit when leashed and will need some continued training once adopted. They`re both absolutely gorgeous and silly and fun and crazy smart. Ozzie has a sweet soul and will protect his loved ones. Harriet is a bit of a wild child and will chase a ball thrown by anyone willing. Adopting both of them will mean a lovable, tornado of energy has entered your life- but they also very much occupy each other. With dedication and training and being patient enough to learn where they merge or diverge from eachother- they are destined to bring endless joy and adventure into an adult family with kids 10 and up. (very small children are likely not a great match for these energetic pups). If you think you have what it takes to keep up, visit them today.
