Story

This sweet bonded pair ended up at the Kern County Shelter after their human passed away. They had been with her since they were young and were very well-loved family members. Sadly, they started shutting down at the shelter, but luckily a kind foster stepped up and cared for them for several months before having to go oversees to care for family. That’s when Harli & Bear made their journey to Lily’s, first spending time with a temporary foster and now with a long-term foster until they find their forever home (hopefully soon!). With all the changes in their life, understandably, Harli & Bear take some time to warm up to new people. Once they do, they spend most of their day lounging, wanting to be near their humans. Bear loves toys and won’t go anywhere without his stuffy. He is curious and a bit more reserved than Harli. But once settled, he sure loves his belly rubs! While she can be shy at first, Harli is a couch potato and a “go with the flow” kind of gal, just happy to be a part of the crowd. Both are learning confidence in their foster home, slowly learning to greet new people and open up. They both get along well with other dogs. In one of their foster homes, they had 5 resident doggy siblings and did well but would prefer a smaller pack at home with maybe one other dog so they can get all the attention they deserve. The pair have been working to befriend the resident cat, waiting and hoping at the top of the stairs that the cat will appear and want to play. While the resident cat isn’t quite as into his new friends, they are beginning to slowly win him over with time and persistence! Despite all they’ve been through, these two remain sweet and gentle dogs, looking for their new furever home to call their own. They have received rave reviews from their fosters on how easy and lovable they remain. Here’s what one of their fosters had to say: "These two are the most adorable bonded pair I have ever seen. Harli is sweet and shy. She is often afraid to go outside to greet my other dogs, so Bear will be by her side and he is her best bud and will always be with her. I have seen him give her kisses on the face to reassure her. They are an easy pair. They want mostly to be with their person and to have their bellies rubbed or their back scratched. They are not aggressive. They eat their food together peacefully and do not guard their food or toys. Wherever they go, their new guardian would be so incredibly lucky to have them. I have only fostered them for six days and already love them so much. They're an easy loving pair. Please consider adopting them. You will love them!"

Max came to us after his family moved and could no longer care for him. He had been with them since a puppy and grew up alongside kids and another dog and did well with both. Max even reportedly loves cats, enthusiastically trying to play with those that are willing! That being said, Max is part Pyranese and can be protective of his family in the home with dogs he has never met, so proper introductions will always be important. Max is a youthful senior who is always smiling. While he’s always up for an adventure, Max also knows the luxuries of long naps and settles inside, happily napping next to you. He loves stuffies and in addition to his basic commands knows “kisses,” “go to bed” and “potty.” Max is a sweet guy who will do well in almost any family, but would really love the company of another furry friend. He has made fast friends with a few dogs here at Lily's and watching the joy he shares with them brings a smile to everyone's face.

This sweet girl came to us as an owner surrender after being with her humans since a puppy. She lived alongside another dog and a cat and did well with both. While a tough situation for all involved, Biscuits is trying to make sense of her new reality. Imagine being a type A work-a-holic, a caretaker whose sole job is to oversee a loved one day in and day out. You take your job very seriously. It gives you a sense of purpose and a sense of pride. Now imagine being let go, for reasons outside of your control and understanding, it just isn't the right job for you anymore. On top of the confusion and upheaval, Biscuits is grieving the loving family bond she once knew. After a life of caregiving, Biscuits is looking for a home where she will get to relax, let someone else care for her and just be a dog. But Biscuits is still figuring it out. Each day she settles in a little more and shows her sweet side with kisses and invitations for play. She loves to be near you, loves to play with a ball, and enjoys dips in the pool (whether it be full sized or kiddie sized, she isn't picky). Biscuits is true to her breed, she can't just give up her need to work entirely, and she will need a family who understands the drive of a Border Collie and can come up with creative ways to keep her busy while respecting that her body is feeling her age. Biscuits is searching for a forever home where she can be with her humans as much as possible!

She’s great friends with our German Shepherd, although her herding instincts make her a little pushy.Piper is extremely timid with strangers but usually warms up within 24–48 hours if given patience and space. Once she trusts you, she’ Unfortunately, Piper is fearful of children and occasionally unfamiliar adults. She has never bitten anyone, but she lets off a warning bark when she's scared. She needs an adult-only home and isn’t suited for someone with mobility issues.She would thrive with experienced, patient owners, plenty of space to exercise, and a calm environment. We love Piper dearly, and rehoming her is heartbreaking. Our greatest hope is to find her a safe, loving home where she can flourish.
