Story
Mercury is a sweet, goofy boy who loves long walks, tennis balls, belly rubs, and FOOD! We love him and are heartbroken to have to make the choice to rehome him. Unfortunately due to a separation and some extenuating health circumstances, we are not able to provide the level of care that he requires. He should be in a home with more human presence where he’s not alone all day, or at least has access to some outdoor space. He can be a little bit of an anxious guy, but he’s always been sweet and playful with humans (including children.) He is hit or miss with other dogs. He’s been living with another (small, female) dog for the last 5 years or so and they always got along. Meeting dogs on leash is usually fine but off-leash requires him to know the dog first. He deserves the BEST home and we want him to be somewhere where he can be actively loved and cared for.

Story
I am at Oakland Animal Services in kennel Dog H:1Nathan- the 1-year old Black Border Collie, who is a Sweet and Gentle Soul feeling a bit overwhelmed by the shelter environment. Timid at First: Nathan is understandably timid and overwhelmed in the shelter setting. Warming Up and Seeking Comfort: Once outdoors, he still shows some tentativeness but begins to relax. Nathan starts comes closer for some comforting pets if you sit down and give him some space and time to feel secure and comfortable. Exploring the Yard: Nathan likes to explore when he is off-leash in the yard, often looking far out in the distance, indicating his curiosity and desire to understand his surroundings. Social and Plays Politely: At the playgroup, Nathan is gentle and plays politely with the other dogs. Nathan will thrive in a home as a solo dog or with another social dog. Nathan is a tender-hearted dog looking for a loving home where he can slowly build his confidence and find joy. If you have a quiet and understanding household, Nathan could be your perfect, gentle companion.July 20, 2024, 7:06 pm

Story
I am at Oakland Animal Services in kennel Dog H:6Meet Prescott, a charming 1-year-old mixed breed dog who's ready to find his forever home! About Prescott: - Gentle and Independent: Prescott is a sweet, shy boy who loves to explore his surroundings and enjoys gentle pets. - Leash Pro: He walks beautifully on a leash, making your outings together a breeze. - Treat Lover: Prescott is very treat-motivated, which will help with his training and building his confidence. - Dog Friendly: He does well with other dogs in playgroups, enjoying their company without being too assertive. Prescott came to us as a stray and is still adjusting to his new environment. He’s a bit undersocialized and can be flinchy with sudden movements, but he’s trying hard to connect and loves gentle handling. Prescott would do best with adopters who understand his sensitive nature and can offer positive reinforcement training. Older children with dog experience might be a good fit for him. Come meet Prescott and discover the loyal and loving companion you've been searching for! July 20, 2024, 7:06 pm

Story
Meet Captain! He is a sweet boy who loves adventures and being with his people! He would do best in a home that can provide both mental and physical stimulation. He would love a home where there aren't many dogs around. We recommend someone who has experience with dogs as he will not be a good fit for first time dog owners. Ideally home would be in a more tranquil setting....all he wants to do is please you and snuggle up next to you while also getting some training.

Story
Loki is a happy boy, playing with friends, running about, and giving hugs! He does better being outdoors in a fenced space, he likes most dogs after an introduction and chooses his playmates, typically other males it seems (that can be situational.) He and an old male Aussie and a young Great Pyr have a love triangle, wrestling, humping and chasing each other, they are super cute and silly, he has a strong bond to his buddies, both two-legged and four!! Loki takes his time to warm up to some, and is particular about handling and restraint, not taking it well from people he doesn't know. Loki has a healthy sense of adventure and not the best recall though when he has a runabout here at the Milo Sanctuary he comes back before long. A country life is definitely in order for him! He can be affectionate and gives great hugs. Loki has had physical and other forms of trauma in his life, Loki came to us with a badly broken tail/spinal injury, he's healed and happy guy given his own freedom of movement. He deserves a chance. A country home with adults. He is fine being a predominantly outdoor dog with a buddy. He does not like a harness. Come meet him at our sanctuary!

Story
Trixter is a good solid dog who looks to you for direction. He craves attention and affection. He is dog selective (gets along with some, but not all, dogs) and interacts well with people once he gets to know them. Trixter has "Stranger Danger" with many (but not all) people at first. But with a little time and treats, he is a lover. He would love to go hiking or running, and has good recall. He will require an experienced dog owner without children. He is a true "diamond in the rough." With the time and love he deserves, he will be your best friend.

Since Obsidian has been at The Milo Foundation Sanctuary he has been able to learn some manners. He still shows sighs of being shy and nervous around strangers, but once he knows he can trust you Obsidian is a sweet loving boy. He does need to learn more manners along with some structure. Obsidian needs someone who will have time to spend with him and teach him. He would so best in a home with no children. Story
LOCATION: SANCTUARY IN WILLITS, CA. Slick is an intense boy! Protector, hustler, ranch keeper.... people friendly, but will guard most likely once he establishes his pack and terrain, at least he'll alert and make someone think twice. Not a dog for the faint of heart or inexperienced. He could be a farm or ranch dog and run or ride along in side by sides... he has a dominant personality and is not good with other male dogs for certain - and can be good with female dogs who don't challenge him for dominance. Slick needs a low stimulation environment to succeed in living with another dog - but with space and a female dog he can get along.... Someone who lives in a rural situation who wants a smart, quick, alert, challenging companion - Here's SLICK!! Thank you for considering adoption of a Milo Foundation Sanctuary dog. Our Sanctuary is where our rescued dogs who have had difficulty in a home in the past, have behavioral issues, or too much energy, or for some, aggression issues with other dogs, or intense stranger danger that make them more difficult to safely and happily live in urban environments. These are not beginner dogs or for the most part nor are they for families with children. IF you are looking for an easy dog to add to your family, we suggest looking at the dogs at our Adoption Center, Milo Pt Richmond. BUT, if you can offer a safe and nurturing home to a dog with some behavioral "quirks" please do send an application today. Thank you.

These pups are in Oakland, California too!

Story
She is a 40-pound, 16-month-old Australian Shepherd. She is friendly and clingy, loving people more than other dogs. This was also the reason I chose her; she was the only puppy in the litter that stayed by my side. I am looking for a stable home. The most important thing is having flexible working hours to spend time with her and provide at least 1-2 hours of exercise daily. Ideally, I prefer living in a house so she can have more space to play.

This girl is full of confidence and is a quick learner. She loves going for car rides and gets excited as soon as she sees her harness. Paloma is a social butterfly who adores meeting new people and soaking up all the love and attention. Paloma is already a pro at crate training and potty training and is a bundle of joy with a tail that never stops wagging. She is currently mastering leash skills and enjoys going on pack walks in the neighborhood, where she can show off her playful side. Paloma is a pack animal and even though she's surrounded by four giant Northern breeds that are over 80 pounds, she is adapting well and learning how to communicate with them. Paloma is in search of a forever home with at least one other playful dog, where she can continue to grow and thrive. She will do best in a quieter area, as busy places can be overwhelming for her. As a high-energy, intelligent working breed mix, Paloma requires regular exercise and mental stimulation. She is 3 years old and weighs 40 pounds. If you're looking for a special companion that will bring love and excitement to your life, Paloma is the one for you! Follow Paloma's foster journey with @the_skyline_pack on Instagram. Story
I am at Oakland Animal Services in kennel Dog H:7Have you met Libby yet? Libby is a big 11-month old puppy who is incredibly smart and incredibly gorgeous, too according to her foster. Libby is playful, full of energy, and adores people. She’s house-trained and crate-trained. She knows ‘sit’ and has just learned ‘find-it’, which she absolutely loves playing with her human friends. She is in that puppyhood phase where, um, she wants to put everything in her mouth (sleeves, wrists, etc). Her ideal furever home is active and up for the fun challenges of raising and consistently training a large pup to be the best family member she can be. Libby is around 55 pounds and expected to grow a little bit more. She’s ready for her own adventurous family (or even a new foster home) to keep up with her!
