Story
Milo is a beautiful 42 lb border collie mix. Typical for a herding type dog, Milo has a lot of energy and is very intelligent. His foster family describes him as very sweet, goofy, active, and energetic. Milo loves to play games of all kinds, and especially loves playing fetch. Milo is crate trained, house trained, and walks well on leash. He is friendly with other dogs. He has not been cat tested. With his foster family, Milo does well with 2-4 hours of exercise daily. Typical for his breed type, Milo has shown some herding behaviors and can sometimes be protective of his space, his people, and his things. For these reasons, Milo would do best in a home without small children. Milo needs a family that can provide him with plenty of daily mental and physical stimulation. Herding breed experience or experience with other high drive dogs is strongly encouraged.

Story
I am at Oakland Animal Services in kennel Dog H:4Cassio – Wiggly, Affectionate, and Full of Charm Cassio is a 2-year-old Border Collie mix weighing 41 pounds with a delightful waggy personality and a big love for human attention. Enthusiastic buddy: Cassio may pull excitedly at the start of walks, but is easy to handle due his manageable size. He loves interacting with his human while showing off his ‘sit’, ‘down’ and ‘spin’.  Extra affectionate: It doesn’t take long for Cassio to hop up with his front paws on your legs, gazing up for attention and possibly sneaking in a quick face lick. He also loves leaning against people or stretching out across a lap for butt scratches. Playful and easygoing: Cassio can happily entertain himself with a plush toy and enjoys gentle play with other dogs in doggie playgroup. Social sweetheart: His waggy, people-loving personality shines through in nearly every interaction, making him a fun and affectionate companion. Cassio would do best with appropriately matched dogs or as a solo dog with dog friends outside the home.           View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by Oakland Animal Services (OAS) (@oaklandanimalservices) August 27, 2026, 11:09 am

Story
7-Year-Old Border Collie:Wolf, 7-year-old Border Collie – Looking for an experienced, active single-dog homeWolf is a smart, energetic, and devoted 7-year-old Border Collie who thrives with structure, mental stimulation, and a confident handler. He is highly intelligent, learns quickly, and forms strong bonds with his/her people. When he’s with his/her trusted humans, Wolf is affectionate, eager to please, and full of the classic Border Collie drive that makes him a wonderful companion for someone who enjoys training, long walks, hikes, puzzle toys, or dog sports.Important note about other dogs:Wolf has shown aggression/reactivity toward unfamiliar dogs. This means he is not a good fit for a multi-dog household or for frequent off-leash dog-park situations. He does best as the only dog in the home( although he has grown up with two other dogs, and had met other dogs in the right way., But to be careful around new dogs (leash walks, always )

Story
Like most Border Collies, Confetti Sunset is innately wise and instinctively helpful. Her beauty is unparalleled and her emotional intelligence is worthy of scientific study. Kind, gentle, quietly attentive, she’s lays her freckled snout on a knee like a warm compress, receiving and giving comfort without a lot of fanfare. She’s a strong capable friend to other dogs and polite with all humans. A proud working dog, she also stands ready to be a loyal companion and playmate to a loving and reliable adopter. Adopt her for a lifelong master class in peace, love and understanding. Here's some notes from her foster: Confetti is totally chill. She wants to be with her human all the time, but that can be lying on her doggie bed next to me while I work. She does try to get outside anytime a door is opened, but the one time she did get out, she just stood there. She likes leisurely walks. Given her medical condition, I am taking her for multiple short (1/4 mile or so) walks per day. She is also very much into smelling everything outside. A 1/4 mile walk can take 20 minutes or more.

Story
Wendell is a 60-pound cattle dog mix with a good heart and a thoughtful nature. He enjoys his walks and does well on pack walks, where he seems to appreciate having other dogs around. Wendell can be a little reserved when meeting new people, so he’s looking for a quieter home where he can take his time getting comfortable and build a relationship at his own pace. Once he feels secure, we think there is a wonderful dog waiting to come out. Wendell would love a patient adopter who understands that the best relationships aren’t always instant. Give him a little time, and he’ll have the chance to show you who he really is.

I am in a foster home and not at the shelter. If you are interested in adopting, submit an adoption questionnaire by email. Learn more hereMeet Paloma, the one-of-a-kind pup who's sure to steal your heart with her stunning blue eyes. This 5-year-old, 47-pound Shepsky/Cattle Dog mix girl is full of spark, a social butterfly who adores meeting new people and soaking up all the love and attention. She also happens to be deaf, but that doesn't hold her back from enjoying everything that life has to offer! Her foster says Paloma is a bundle of joy with a tail that never stops wagging. A quick learner, she's crate and potty trained, knows how to sit, and politely takes treats. She’s mastering leash skills and enjoys going on pack walks with her giant dog foster siblings. Always up for adventures, Paloma loves going for car rides and gets excited as soon as she sees her harness. In the home she is an independent gal who is respectful, good with houseguests, quiet, and able to relax either home alone or by your side as the perfect work from home buddy. But she's always up for a little tug of war or chasing a ball whenever you want to play! Paloma is in search of a forever home as a solo dog or with a well-matched dog companion and no other small pets. She'll do best in a quiet neighborhood as busy places can be overwhelming. A high-energy, intelligent working breed mix, Paloma will thrive in a house with a yard or with regular exercise along with mental stimulation. If you're looking for a special companion that will bring love and excitement to your life, Paloma is the one for you! Story
Meet Amelia! Amelia is a 19-pound 'mini' Heeler mix with a big personality packed into a small body. She is very smart, very sweet, and very much a little shadow—once she decides you’re her person, she wants to be right by your side. She is the classic velcro dog that cattle dogs are notorious for. She’s affectionate, cuddly, playful, curious and food-motivated, with just enough mischief to keep things interesting. She’ll happily spend the day at your feet or in your lap, and she has even mastered standing on her hind legs. She’s also surprisingly gentle and has been sweet with a young child. But Amelia is not a plug-and-play dog. She is cautious with new people and needs time to build confidence. She is still learning how to walk nicely on a leash and currently tends to zigzag underfoot. She jumps up, tries to counter-surf (not tall enough) and needs continued basic obedience, socialization and structure. She’s also a tiny Houdini who figured out how to open her crate, so a secure setup is a must. She would also strongly prefer to sleep in your bed at night. Amelia bonds quickly and can struggle when left alone, so she’d do best with someone who works from home, is around frequently, or has another compatible dog. She has not been tested with cats. She can also be a little protective of her person, so introductions to dogs that don't live in the home should be thoughtful. In return for the time and patience you put into her, you’ll get an incredibly devoted little dog who wants nothing more than to feel safe, loved and connected to her person. Amelia would thrive with an active, experienced adopter who understands smart working breeds and is excited to keep training. She is not looking for a hands-off home—she’s looking for her person. And once she finds you, she’s all in. (MB)
