You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All of the animals posted on our site have been temperament tested. While not all are in the immediate area, once we have processed and approved your application, we will move the dog to our adoptive area for you to meet, greet and hopefully adopt. Sometimes we will have more than one application on a dog. That does not mean it automatically goes to another family but you should be aware of the fact that until you are approved and set up for the meet/greet.. the dog could get adopted by another applicant.NOTE- THESE CATS ARE LISTED AS A COURTESY FOR AN INDIVIDUAL ASKING TO REHOME THEIR PET.  PLEASE SEE CONTACT INFO BELOW. Two black kittens (yet to be named) were trapped by one of our volunteers after being found wandering outside.  The babies are solid black and are so cute! They are a little skittish because they have not been handled a lot, but should come around quickly. All have been fixed and vaccinated.  They will need time and lots of handling in their new home to become trusting of people. They play well together with each other.  We are requesting that they be adopted as a pair or have another cat in the home so that they have a mate. If you are interested in adopting a cute little kitty or two, please fill out an adoption application at www.reachoutrescue.org and contact Bernice at 703-475-5326Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.March 3, 2025, 2:52 pm

Story
Pepper is in a foster home! Pepper is a sweet 4-year-old tuxedo girl with soft fur and the perfect balance of independence and affection. True to her feline nature, she knows exactly what she likes — and she isn’t shy about making herself at home! She settled into her foster space within a single day. This clever girl certainly knows how to land on her feet.Pepper absolutely adores pets and will happily lean into your hand for more. While she tolerates being picked up, she prefers to keep all four paws on the ground — she’s not a “carry me everywhere” kind of cat. She’s also not a lap cat, but don’t mistake that for aloofness. Pepper loves being near her people. She’ll sleep on your bed and may even sneak under the blankets to curl up beside you. Make her a cozy blanket fort on the couch, and you’ll have one very content kitty.Pepper loves her daily play sessions. She takes her “hunting” seriously, especially when feather toys and her ripple rug are involved. She also likes her cardboard box with various holes cut out for play. She also uses her cat scratcher multiple times a day (her favorite scratcher is the Lounge one by PetFusion!)Pepper has excellent house manners. She’s litter trained, eats well, and enjoys both dry and wet food — though wet food is the way to her heart. She’s moderately chatty and will sweetly “converse” with you now and then, adding just the right amount of personality to your day without being overly demanding. If you’re looking for a confident, affectionate companion who values closeness without clinginess, delights in cozy comforts, and brings playful energy along with some humor and quiet companionship, Pepper may be the perfect addition to your home. Please email hsccfosterteam@gmail.com to be put in touch with her foster family!

Story
Cinder and Toffee are in a foster home!A note from their foster:Both girls are sweethearts and also independent women! Toffee, orange, is always seeking to hunt. At 2 months old she caught a bird that was trapped in our screened in porch. She loves to play with wand toys and can go through them pretty quickly. She benefits from daily play for both enrichment/stimulation and bonding with humans. She isn`t a fan of collars. Cinder, calico, is more of a calm, shy girl. She really comes out of her shell at mealtimes and treat day (whipped cream is a hit!). Cinder loves her collar and appears to get upset when we take it off to give neck massages. Neither cat likes to be held, but they love to sit on or lay with their humans, and they definitly miss us when we are gone. Both can bond deeply to their humans and they have definitly bonded with each other. They both appreciate heated blankets, sunny spots in the window and room to zoom! Churus are a must for claw trimming rewards! They both have done well around other cats while in foster as well. Please email hsccfosterteam@gmail.com to be put in touch with their foster family!

Story
Morticia is in a foster home!A note from her foster:Morticia is working hard on her social skills! She is not yet a snuggly kitten, but she is very treat motivated, and with some time, has allowed us to pick her up and handle without hissing and hiding. She appreciates it when people respect her boundaries. She enjoys to sit in the room with you and keep you company, she will sit on the couch or the bed with you, and is really starting to learn to like gentle pets. She is a very playful kitten and loves to chase the red dot. She is an excellent stink bug hunter and will alert you if there`s something in your house that does not belong. Treats are also one of her favorite things. When a treat is offered she will come close, but still does not want you to touch her. She gets a long well with the other kittens and the older cats in the house. She does not mind the dogs. She would be a great companion or playmate for a more loveable kitten. Probably not a good fit for younger children. Please email hsccfosterteam@gmail.com to be put in touch with her foster family!

Story
Katie is back from foster and at the shelter waiting to meet her forever family!Introducing Katie – A True Class ActAccording to her foster:“Katie is the PERFECT houseguest. I cannot say enough good things about this cat. Within two minutes of arriving at my house she was a complete purr box and immediately started snuggling. She has even sat on the couch with me and one of my dogs without blinking an eye.She is also toddler friendly! All this girl wants is LOVE. My 3-year-old and almost 2-year-old niece pick her up, pet her, jump on the couch around her—typical toddler behavior—and Katie is not bothered by any of it. She just lays there patiently waiting for pets.I think she would do well in a home with kids or other animals. She’s the perfect balance of cautious and curious. My dogs are not friendly toward her, but she has figured out where her safe space is and stays there comfortably. She is neat with her litter box, perfect for nail trims, and allows you to pick her up. She currently receives oral medication twice daily and takes it like a champ. She’s also had eye drops and ear drops and handled those perfectly as well.I truly think she will love any home where she can get her pets and naps in. She loves sitting beside you on the couch. I honestly cannot say enough good things about her—she is practically perfect in every way.”Adoptable cats/kittens are spayed/neutered, started on core vaccines per shelter protocols, microchipped, FIV/FeLV tested, and started on monthly preventatives. Adoptions hours (no appointment needed) are M/T/W/F 10 am - 12:30 pm and 2 pm -4 pm; TH 10 am -12:30 pm and 2 pm -6:30 pm, and SAT 9 am -1 pm. To schedule an appointment outside of those hours, and/or to learn more information regarding a particular animal, please call the Feline Department at 410-848-4810 ext 816. If no one answers, please leave a detailed message with your name and phone number, and the call will be returned by end of business Monday - Friday.
