You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All of the animals posted on our site have been temperament tested. While not all are in the immediate area, once we have processed and approved your application, we will move the dog to our adoptive area for you to meet, greet and hopefully adopt. Sometimes we will have more than one application on a dog. That does not mean it automatically goes to another family but you should be aware of the fact that until you are approved and set up for the meet/greet.. the dog could get adopted by another applicant.NOTE- THESE CATS ARE LISTED AS A COURTESY FOR AN INDIVIDUAL ASKING TO REHOME THEIR PET.  PLEASE SEE CONTACT INFO BELOW. Two black kittens (yet to be named) were trapped by one of our volunteers after being found wandering outside.  The babies are solid black and are so cute! They are a little skittish because they have not been handled a lot, but should come around quickly. All have been fixed and vaccinated.  They will need time and lots of handling in their new home to become trusting of people. They play well together with each other.  We are requesting that they be adopted as a pair or have another cat in the home so that they have a mate. If you are interested in adopting a cute little kitty or two, please fill out an adoption application at www.reachoutrescue.org and contact Bernice at 703-475-5326Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.March 3, 2025, 2:52 pm

Story
Pepper is in a foster home! Pepper is a sweet 4-year-old tuxedo girl with soft fur and the perfect balance of independence and affection. True to her feline nature, she knows exactly what she likes — and she isn’t shy about making herself at home! She settled into her foster space within a single day. This clever girl certainly knows how to land on her feet.Pepper absolutely adores pets and will happily lean into your hand for more. While she tolerates being picked up, she prefers to keep all four paws on the ground — she’s not a “carry me everywhere” kind of cat. She’s also not a lap cat, but don’t mistake that for aloofness. Pepper loves being near her people. She’ll sleep on your bed and may even sneak under the blankets to curl up beside you. Make her a cozy blanket fort on the couch, and you’ll have one very content kitty.Pepper loves her daily play sessions. She takes her “hunting” seriously, especially when feather toys and her ripple rug are involved. She also likes her cardboard box with various holes cut out for play. She also uses her cat scratcher multiple times a day (her favorite scratcher is the Lounge one by PetFusion!)Pepper has excellent house manners. She’s litter trained, eats well, and enjoys both dry and wet food — though wet food is the way to her heart. She’s moderately chatty and will sweetly “converse” with you now and then, adding just the right amount of personality to your day without being overly demanding. If you’re looking for a confident, affectionate companion who values closeness without clinginess, delights in cozy comforts, and brings playful energy along with some humor and quiet companionship, Pepper may be the perfect addition to your home. Please email hsccfosterteam@gmail.com to be put in touch with her foster family!

Morticia is in a foster home!A note from her foster:Morticia is working hard on her social skills! She is not yet a snuggly kitten, but she is very treat motivated, and with some time, has allowed us to pick her up and handle without hissing and hiding. She appreciates it when people respect her boundaries. She enjoys to sit in the room with you and keep you company, she will sit on the couch or the bed with you, and is really starting to learn to like gentle pets. She is a very playful kitten and loves to chase the red dot. She is an excellent stink bug hunter and will alert you if there`s something in your house that does not belong. Treats are also one of her favorite things. When a treat is offered she will come close, but still does not want you to touch her. She gets a long well with the other kittens and the older cats in the house. She does not mind the dogs. She would be a great companion or playmate for a more loveable kitten. Probably not a good fit for younger children. Please email hsccfosterteam@gmail.com to be put in touch with her foster family!

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Lexi is currently in a foster home! Her foster provided this info about her:Lexi, a 5 year old female, was found in an alley when she was very young, has been spayed & declawed. According to notes from the previous vet Lexi also has a broken paw, however, it does not affect the way she gets around. Lexi was surrendered along with two other cats after one of their owners passed away. As with most animals, the change of being removed from her original home to the shelter has been so stressful. Fortunately, fostering is making a positive difference as Lexi awaits her furever home.Due to the change from her original home Lexi was showing signs of breaking down by not eating properly and losing weight in the shelter. During first two weeks of fostering she constantly hid behind or under a chair slowly adapting to the changes. To be sure she gained weight I would give Lexi her meals where she was hiding. Accommodating her needs worked to start her eating, feeling safe and venturing further into the foster room. Lexi has gained weight and now has a wonderful appetite. When Lexi hears my voice she waits at the door happily meowing with thankfulness and a lot to tell me as her food is now placed out in the open. Once she eats, her favorite way to spend time is in my lap.By the third week, Lexi was feeling so much better about her surroundings and now no longer hiding except when someone besides myself enters the bedroom. She is always on alert for strange noises and will run to her hiding spot if she feels threatened. So far, Lexi prefers to stay in her bedroom where she now easily wanders about feeling safe, takes naps, rolls around on her back and has various favorite spots and looks out the window. Lexi’s has an interesting face that may look somewhat confused or sad but that is the farthest from the truth. Lexi is so full of appreciation for human love, care, lots of petting and lap time.Lexi has become the lap queen luxuriating in peaceful naps while purring away. I have been showing her videos for cats on my iPhone while in my lap which she watches with full concentration especially the live mice videos:) When it is time for me to remove Lexi from my lap she will meow wondering WHY???? As much as she enjoys petting and lap time, so far Lexi does not like to be picked up. In addition to lap time Lexi likes to lay by my legs and rub her face all over my shoes or slippers.Lexi loves to be petted
