Story
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee. This dog will be at a meet and greet event on Saturday, March 23rd unless he/she is adopted prior to the event with a set up home. The event is from 12 pm to 3 pm at Palo Alto's Pet Food Express. Those interested in meeting the dog can come out to our meet and greet event. We no longer do application approval onsite. Anyone adopting has been previously approved and set up to meet prior to the event. Adoption Fee: $500   Acorn is a 2 year old Chihuahua mix who was surrendered to DPS after being rescued by a good samaritan who stepped in and saved him from a bad situation. While we may not know everything about this guy before he came to us, we know that everything has been coming up Acorn ever since he joined our rescue! This petite dude has been working on his gains, and can’t wait to find a loving forever home to show off his amazing personality in!    Below is a note from Acorn’s foster. “Acorn is a sweet and sensitive little guy who adores his chosen people more than anything else in the entire world. For such a small guy, it is understandable that the world around him is very big, but watching his confidence grow in the time he has been with me has been amazing to see. He likes to stay as close as possible to me as I go about my day and is the world’s most adorable shadow. Acorn is more of a lounger than a playing dog and is happy to snooze the day away in his doggy bed next to you as you work. This boy is so sweet and gentle and took to my house quickly. He has the cutest way of seeking attention, putting his front paws on the couch or my leg and gazing at me with his puppy dog eyes. He loves it when I scoop him up onto my lap for a cuddle.  Acorn wakes up at 7:30 and heads right outside for a walk and potty followed by breakfast. He trots along next to me as I get ready for work and then snoozes next to me as I start my day, getting up when I do to make sure he doesn’t miss the chance for a treat! He gets another meal around lunchtime before his afternoon walk and dinner. We unwind from the day as we watch TV and snuggle. Acorn turns in for the night around 10 PM and happily heads to his crate to dream of treats and snuggles ahead the next day!  Acorn gets along with dogs and would do well with a confident canine sibling who can continue showing him the ropes, but he would also thrive as a solo pup. He walks well on a leash but is still building his confidence around loud noises and sudden movements outdoors. Acorn is such a chill and loving companion once he warms up to you. I promise this guy will be your faithful buddy for life if you are lucky enough to earn his love!”   Acorn is only an option for those with prior dog experience, with shy dog experience prioritized. Another dog in the home would likely be the best fit for Acorn. Kids in the home should be over the age of 10 and understand the needs of a shy dog.  March 25, 2024, 11:42 pm

Mouse was surrendered to our rescue with her puppy, Cookie, after she surprised her former home with a baby. They decided they didn’t want to take care of her anymore so we picked her up and promised her a brighter future ahead. Now that Mouse has raised her puppy fabulously, she is ready for her own forever home! Mouse is a tiny little gal (6.5 pounds) who will delight any Chi lover!    Mouse is a tiny girl with a huge heart ready to find her soulmate! Mouse adores her people once she gets to know them and will happily follow you forever if you let her. She loves affection and cuddles and will flop over on her back when she decides she wants pets. Mouse loves sitting on the couch on a blanket or an empty lap as she tilts her head back for scratches. Mouse is a great mix of playful and laid back as well. If you want to play a game of tag she is ready for zoomies but when she is done with playtime, she is ready to cuddle up for a long nap. Mouse is both food motivated and attention motivated and aims to please, so this smart gal will be fun to work on training with.  As long as you are ready to show Mouse love and affection, you will have a faithful companion for life.  Mouse wakes up at 7 AM in her playpen and heads outside for bathroom time. She spends some time playing with the foster family until she gets breakfast in her pen at 8 AM. She gets a few hours of playtime where she runs around with her puppy, follows her foster people around the house for snuggles, and lounges on her soft dog bed. She takes a long afternoon nap before getting a short walk around the neighborhood. Mouse gets dinner at 5 PM which she eagerly eats before trying to puppy dog eye her way into more treats. Mouse gets some pets and snuggles throughout the evening before she goes outside for one last potty session and then settles down in her pen for the night.  Mouse gets along with other dogs of all sizes as long as she can go at her speed. She needs a bit of time to warm up to new people but is getting more confident by the day. Mouse has been introduced to the leash and walks. Mouse is crate trained and house trained. Mouse is so loving and adaptable and will be such a beloved member of her lucky forever family.    Mouse is an option for just about any home, regardless of prior dog experience, as long as they are prepared to continue working on her confidence building. Kids in the home should be over the age of 10.March 28, 2024, 12:36 am

Story
FOSTER CARE! Hi, my name is Carla! I am a 3 year old, 12lbs., spayed female chihuahua. I’m a curious little girl that takes a while to warm up to new surroundings, and I’m looking for a patient family that will give me the time I need to warm up to new people. Once I’m comfortable though, I squeak for belly rubs and will roll around in my dog bed! I love to explore once I’m ready, and I love to lie in sunny spots. I even know how to use a doggie door when I want to! I sure do love meal time and treats. I have lived with other dogs before and get along fine if they give me my space, but I also wouldn’t mind being the only dog in the house. I am crate trained, and my foster family says I'm pretty potty trained!    Carla AID# A928346 Since I’m not at the adoption center, you can make arrangements to meet me by emailing behavior@phs-spca.org You may also submit your fully completed Adoption Profile Form to behavior@phs-spca.org and a staff member will call you to conduct a phone interview before making an appointment to meet me in person. You must be 18 or older to submit a profile.  Application: https://phs-spca.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/AdoptionProfiles_dog2023_fillin.pdf *The application may not work on mobile devices and iPads. Please call (650) 340-7022 for assistance. Unless otherwise indicated, adoptable animals are located at our Lantos Center for Compassion at 1450 Rollins Road, Burlingame, CA 94010. Please note at this time we are doing adoptions by appointments only. Please call us at 650-340-7022 to schedule an appointment. Our hours are weekdays from 11am-6pm and weekends from 11am-5pm (closed major holidays). Interested adopters must arrive at least 1 hour before close.  We do our best to update our listings regularly, but we can’t guarantee every animal you see is still available. It’s also typical for us to have animals who haven’t had their photos taken yet, so you are welcome to visit our adoption center and have a look around! To check on an animal's adoption status, please call 650-340-7022 during normal business hours to speak with an adoption counselor. Not good with kids, Needs special attention, Needs experienced adopter, House-trained, Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Hi! Rue is a five year old doggo that I've had for roughly 1.5 years. She was found tied outside of a shelter with another group of dogs, so not much is known about her upbringing. She's extremely shy, noise-sensitive, and wary of people and other dogs, but is not aggressive. Once she feels comfortable around you, she'll instinctively lay back and paw you for belly rubs. If you stop giving her belly rubs, she'll keep pawing until you give her belly rubs. She is relatively independent and prefers her own space, preferring to sleep in her bed. However, she has severe separation anxiety — she begins crying and howling if I leave and will need a experienced owner and trainer who has the resources and mental capacity to train her. Unfortunately, due to my mental health, I am no longer able to care for her. For her future dog parent, I'd like to keep in contact to know how she's doing. Since there is not enough words for me to describe her, please message me if you have any questions.
