Adoption fee: $650 On January 1st, Mama Tomato — an adorable 11 lb Chi mix — delivered the freshest produce of the New Year: five perfectly ripe Tomato puppies. Now 8 weeks old, these garden gems are ready to be picked for their forever homes.   Their daily routine is simple and wholesome, just like a backyard harvest should be. Around 7:30am, the Tomato crew rustles their foster awake and heads outside for about an hour of potty time and play in the yard. The rest of the day is spent in their pen rotating between naps, wrestling matches, and refueling at the kibble bar, which is open all day. At 8pm, they enjoy a hearty dinner of kibble mixed with wet food — a farm-to-bowl feast. In the evening, they get another hour outside to stretch their vines and burn off that last burst of sunshine energy before bed.   Each Tomato has their own distinct flavor:   Beefsteak The smallest of the bunch, but full of robust personality. Beefsteak was the first to really get airborne, perhaps to compensate for his petite size. He has a delightfully bouncy run and occasionally attempts to scale the yard’s tree like a tiny goat. He’s also the only sibling who has discovered the art of tail chasing, which he approaches with great enthusiasm and very little success. Once he's done with adventuring, he's ready for some lap time snuggles!   Cherry Playful and bold, Cherry keeps the vine lively. He regularly challenges Mama Tomato to wrestling matches, despite losing in record time. He has a talent for dramatic props — proudly parading around with a leaf as big as his face or a stick longer than his body while playing keep-away with his siblings. He brings the zesty fun to every play session.   Early Girl An athletic overachiever, Early Girl treats the yard like her own agility course. From her very first outdoor adventure, she began climbing onto platforms and launching herself off with impressive commitment. She’s also climbed a flower pot and leapt to a raised garden bed several inches away. This little tomato believes gravity is more of a suggestion than a rule. She's a parkour pro, but as sweet as a ripe tomato!   Roma The strategic thinker of the patch. Roma is smartie pants who studied every design flaw in the pen barrier and systematically defeated them. He has pushed it aside, climbed corners, and engineered clever workarounds to expand his territory. A hearty eater, he quickly caught up in size and outgrew his sister after starting smaller. Roma combines brains, determination, and a healthy appetite for life. With his love of food, he'll be easy to train!   Sungold Slightly more cautious when faced with new experiences, Sungold approaches the world with thoughtful sweetness. His first adventures outside the pen and into the yard were marked by an adorable quick-but-careful belly crawl. Yet once he feels secure, he melts completely — especially when picked up, immediately flopping onto his back for belly rubs. He matches Roma in enthusiasm at mealtime and has been growing beautifully. Gentle, affectionate, and quietly confident, Sungold is pure sunshine once he warms up.   These Tomato puppies have been lovingly tended, well-fed, and thoughtfully socialized. They are playful, curious, and thriving — ready to be transplanted into homes where they can continue to grow.   If you’re looking to add something fresh, joyful, and homegrown to your life, one of these Tomatoes may be the perfect pick.March 4, 2026, 2:52 pm

To be considered for adoption, please submit an application in advance at https://www.dpsrescue.com/adopt/dog-application/.   Adoption fee: $650 Tomato is a 2–3 year old, 11 lb Chiweenie who has already proven herself to be one devoted little mama. Rescued from the shelter with her five nursing puppies, she spent the past two months raising her adorable brood. Now that her babies are eight weeks old and ready to head off to their own homes, it’s finally Tomato’s turn to be the one who gets pampered, doted on, and treated like the star of the show.   Tomato has settled beautifully into her foster home and has shown herself to be a very affectionate, people-oriented little dog. From the moment she arrived, she was eager to connect with her foster. She enjoys climbing onto a lap for some cuddle time, but she’s equally happy lounging nearby on the sofa or curling up on a cozy dog bed where she can keep an eye on everything going on around her. She’s also a generous giver of kisses and often pops up to gently smooch her foster’s face just to remind you how happy she is to be close.   Like many dogs who have just finished raising a litter, Tomato started off a bit on the quiet side while she focused on caring for her puppies. As the weeks passed and her babies became more independent, her playful personality really began to shine. These days she’s known to burst into joyful zoomies around the yard and happily engage in playtime with her pups. She even has a funny little move where she gently grabs her foster’s hand in her mouth as if to say, “Excuse me, I believe more pets are required immediately.”   Tomato also has a charmingly opinionated side when it comes to attention. If she notices someone lavishing affection on one of the puppies, she’s quick to hop up onto the nearest lap to make sure she gets her fair share. It’s less jealousy and more a reminder that she’s still a baby herself at heart.   Her daily routine is relaxed and easygoing. She grazes on kibble during the day and enjoys a dinner of kibble mixed with wet food around 8 p.m. Much of the day is spent lounging on the sofa or relaxing on a dog bed, occasionally checking in on her puppies in their pen. She goes outside several times a day to potty and stretch her legs, and at night she’s perfectly content sleeping on the sofa.   Tomato is house-trained and does an excellent job using potty pads if her foster isn’t immediately available to let her outside. She has good house manners overall. Early on she attempted a little digging when first exploring the yard with her puppies, but that behavior disappeared quickly. She does sometimes bark at unfamiliar sounds—things like appliances running for the first time, thunder during a storm, or outside noises such as cars and distant dogs—but this is simply her way of announcing that she has noticed something new in her environment.   One of Tomato’s funniest habits is her love of high vantage points. She seems to enjoy supervising the household from above. On one memorable occasion, she climbed onto the backrest of the couch behind her foster, curled up there like a tiny sentinel, and rested her head comfortably on her foster’s shoulder while surveying the room.   Another favorite moment was the first time she and her puppies all went into the yard together. Tomato tore happily back and forth across the grass while the puppies bounced after her like a pack of tiny followers. When she would turn around, she’d sometimes leap right over them as they scrambled to keep up, clearly thrilled to finally be playing instead of just parenting.   What makes Tomato especially special is the balance she strikes between sweetness and spirit. She’s affectionate without being clingy, playful without being overly energetic, and confident enough to make herself heard when she wants attention. After doing such an incredible job raising her little family, she’s more than ready for a home where she can relax, play, cuddle, and simply enjoy being someone’s beloved companion.   In short, Tomato has done the hard work of motherhood. Now she’s ready for the easy part: being adored.March 5, 2026, 3:19 pm

To be considered for adoption, please submit an application in advance at https://www.dpsrescue.com/adopt/dog-application/. Adoption fee: $650 Binky is a 2–3 year old, 5 lb Chihuahua who may very well be the tiniest, most delicate little creature you’ve ever laid eyes on. She is the definition of petite perfection—fine-boned, soft-eyed, and so small she feels like she was designed to fit perfectly in the crook of your arm. But beyond her dainty size is a gentle, deeply devoted soul who wants nothing more than to be cherished.   Her days begin around 8:30 or 9:00 a.m., when she and her foster family wake slowly and spend the first 10–20 minutes simply enjoying each other in the morning sun. For Binky, this is bliss— soft pets, warm light, and the comfort of being close. Physical closeness is her love language. She doesn’t just enjoy affection; she needs to be near her person, touching if possible. The closer, the better.   When it’s time for the first of several daily walks, Binky makes her preferences known. Leashes are not her favorite accessory. She’ll take a few slow, hesitant steps and then stop, quietly insisting that this is not how she prefers to travel. Instead, she patiently sits on her little bag, waiting for it to be opened so she can hop inside and ride along safely while the other dogs stretch their legs. Outside, she prefers to be tucked close to her person, observing the world from a secure vantage point.   Back home, breakfast is served— each dog with their own bowl, though everyone politely checks each other’s portions to ensure the chicken has been divided fairly. Binky participates in this “musical plates” ritual with curiosity but no food aggression whatsoever. Once satisfied that all is equal, she settles in to enjoy her meal. She’s a good eater and appreciates her food.   Most of the day is spent exactly how Binky prefers: lounging in warm, cozy spots. Sunbathing is a favorite pastime. Any soft bed, sunny patch of floor, or warm blanket will do. She is not a high-energy dog; she is a quiet companion who finds contentment in calm surroundings. If her foster moves to another room, Binky ensures a bed comes along so she can continue supervising from a comfortable distance of approximately zero feet. She is the definition of a velcro dog.   Evenings mirror the mornings. Another walk— this time snug in her bag again— followed by dinner (and another round of musical plates). She uses pee pads reliably for the most part, occasionally having an accident close by if her aim is slightly off. She isn’t destructive, isn’t demanding, and hasn’t been a problem in any way since arriving. She has blended seamlessly with the resident dogs, who treat her as though she has always belonged.   Inside the home, Binky will bark if someone comes to the door or if she hears a noise she doesn’t like, but she's not a nuisance barker.   Bedtime is around 10:30 p.m., and Binky sleeps soundly through the night— as long as she is touching her person. Physical contact reassures her. It’s in those quiet nighttime moments that you realize how much comfort she draws from simple closeness.   There is a tenderness about Binky that is hard to put into words. She doesn’t ask for much— just warmth, gentleness, and to be wanted.   She is five pounds of devotion, resilience, and sweetness. And she is more than ready to be someone’s cherished little girl.March 3, 2026, 11:24 am
