Story
This gorgeous girl is Melody! Melody is a sweet girl that LOVES to be active and to be outside. Her very favorite toy is a rubber kong that she can safely chew on! She can be a little shy at first, but when she gets comfortable with you she LOVES to get tummy rubs! She likes to "rule the roost" so she will need to be any only dog- no cats and no other dogs. She has been around her pup foster siblings but does not like them. Melody is potty trained and crate trained! If her foster family is gone during the day she is crated and does very well. She is possessive over her food bowl so she prefers to be left alone while eating. Her foster family crates her and walks out of the room while she is eating to make her feel more secure. She’s really just afraid someone is going to take her food from her... Melody will be a great companion to the right family. If your family would be a perfect match for her, please apply! Meet Bandit! We know… so handsome right?! 😍 Aside from his dashing good looks, he is also an expert snuggler! He will cuddle on the couch with you all day if you let him ❤️. He absolutely adores hoomans! He hasn’t met one that he hasn’t made his best friend! Bandit knows his manners and is a certified “good boy”! He will sit, give paw, and lay down all for a treat 🍖. He is eager to please and loves to learn new things. He is very quiet and loves all the lovins too! 🥰 Sweet Bandit is great with kids and cats 🐱 but he does prefer to be the only pup in the household. He would do best with a fenced in yard so he can exercise and sunbathe ☀️. Story
This handsome boy is Yeti! Yeti is a 2ish years young male Pyrenees! Yeti was a neglect case but is thriving now. He knows how to enjoy the finer things in life like a good stick, treatos, and good napping spots. This handsome boy does have some storm anxiety and can get a little antsy but he works through it. He trusts his people implicitly and prefers structured intros with new people. We do believe Yeti could be a guardian dog but only part time. He's gotten accustomed to the good life. This big floof loves walks and gets the zoomies sometimes. We haven't tried him around water yet but we imagine the right partner in crime pup will having him jumping in without issue. Fun facts about the fella floof: Housetrained and working on crate training Leash walker extraordinaire Great with other pups Met cats and chickens without issue About 100 lbs Sheds & drools so people who prefer wearing white or like "dog glitter" as their favorite accessory will LOVE him Big fan of pup cups Loves sticks, squeaky toys, and sneaking on to the couch Rides well in the car Yeti is looking for his furever family. This sweet boy is looking for something special and promises to make an excellent companion. If you're looking for a Yeti in your life, please let us know by submitting an application here: dixiegirldogresue.org/adopt-form. From there, we'll forward your app to his foster family who will reach out to you! ============================================ If interested in adopting one of our available pets, please fill out an application at http://www.dixiegirldogrescue.org/adopt-form Most of our are pets are fostered in Southern foster homes and are posted for adoption once they are completely vetted and ready to travel. Story
Carraway is a beautiful, loyal pup that is so ready for a home of her very own❤️ To understand Carraway, you need to be let in on her backstory… For weeks, she had been spotted and was being fed by a Good Samaritan in a really bad part of Birmingham. We knew she had been pregnant and she had her babies, but it took a little bit to figure out where they were. Once we knew they were in an abandoned boarded up house, we knew what we had to do. We were able to trap Mama Carraway, and then we were able to get into the house and rescue her puppies (our Birmingham Streets Litter) from under the floor - they were about five weeks old at the time. We wondered, would mama be OK, would she be able to adjust after life on the street? But we were soon answered by her curling up with her puppies’ Rescuer in a chair at Dixie House. It was then that we knew she would be OK. Carraway has had a long road, even since rescue. Through vetting and heartworm treatment, a couple different foster homes, her “breed” working against her… But this sweet girl is more ready than ever to find a home and family of her own. She has come so far! She went from showing dog leash reactivity, to assimilating into a foster home with eight other adult dogs, ranging in all sizes and puppies! At first she had no idea how to play, what toys were, or how to be a pet. But it did not take long! Carraway has a few things that she REALLY loves: Car Rides *she might claim shotgun* Snuggles (especially with kids!) Squeaker & tug toys Walks! Other dogs! Carraway does well in a crate, plays well with others, and is overall just a sweet and loving girl. She has been misunderstood for far too long and is ready for a home that sees her for who she is and gives her all she deserves. Story
We are all celebrating because TATE IS HW- AND IS OFFICIALLY CLEARED TO GO ON TRANSPORT TO A FOREVER HOME 🏡 🥳 Tate is a big, handsome snuggle bug that is searching for his forever family🏡 Tate came into rescue already a 100% good boy and ready for his forever home. He is around 6 years old & a wonderful, settled pup. He is a mastiff mix that is respectful with his size and loves to give us a big beautiful smile in exchange for belly rubs🥰 Tate gets along with everyone he meets, human and animal alike, and we think he would do well in a home with or without furry siblings. He is currently in a home with two other male dogs and they get along wonderfully! He is very passive and friendly. More than anything, he wants a couch and a bed to snuggle up on and some people to spend his days with. He also LOVES car rides and will rest his head on the dash while being your shotgun rider💕 Tate is housetrained, walks well on a leash and is great with kids! He needs to be in a home without cats, but we know there is a perfect, cat-free home out there!
